A Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 23AUG2024

- This California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0626 MDT (42 min. late).
Powered by P42s #136 & #54, the 8-car train was stopped with car 7 to the parking area platform for passenger service to 6 new patrons. There were no detraining passengers today. With the station work safely completed, the high ball was given and on a clear signal at west Ft. Morgan CP the Zephyr continued its run to Emeryville with the next stop being Denver's Union Station.
My thanks, as always, to the operating crew for their greetings this morning.

Morning Mike. I'll be coming to Fort Morgan on September 4 on the #5 then leaving the following morning on the #5 as part of my around the USA train trip on Amtrak. I finally got that USA rail pass. Can't wait.

Yes. My doctor said everything is good for now. No surgery yet as long as I keep taking my medicine. Those dates should stick unless my flight into Fort Lauderdale Saturday night is delayed. I start everything in Fort Lauderdale. Can't wait. You as well.

Even with them, I ended up with some glare from the car sides and windows. Oh well. All the farmyard animals were overridden here by the two forklifts of the steel fab. shop. Oh well. They are trying to beat the heat as well.

Good afternoon Mike! 75 and sunny here today. Not a lot of humidity yet at 12:10 PM here. First day of school for the kids! A 1:10 dismissal like usual on Fridays. The kids had about 5 hours in class today 😳. All week next week regular dismissal at 3:10 except Fridays. Anyway nice to see them come through and stop even though they ran 30 minutes late. Good afternoon, Mark; Thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. It's 91 F. here at 1415 MDT. There are some thickening clouds around but have not seen anything threatening yet. More am more schools are starting the fall terms. Now that I am not involved with it, it is hard to realize this system has been in session for 2 weeks. I am still not used to these 4-day school weeks. Oh well. ^Times change and yet remain the same.

The first 4 were together on their trip and the other 2 were going different directions in Denver. I do apologize for the whiplash to the eyeballs as the camera tilted uncontrolled as I shifted. Good afternoon, Paul; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. It did start out nice and has remained that so far this morning. The "back up alarms of the two forklift trucks were aggravating today. They belong to the steel fabrication shop directly across the tracks to the south of the depot. The work hours have changed with the heat index here and they are trying to bet the heat by starting early in the mornings and ending the workday around 1400. I can't blame them for that. They do have a couple of large projects they are working on. I may have to put up with them again tomorrow morning. Oh well.

They were moving some big, fabricated pieces out of the shop and to the paint booth. in another building. That was nothing a pair of wire cutters couldn't handle. LOL!
I am wondering if the work crew will be doing that again later when #5 arrives today.

There was a head-on train accident up in Boulder County here in Colorado. 2 conductors with minor injuries and a little diesel fuel on the ground. The incident also took out a railroad bridge. BNSF owned and operated. HMMMM....

Good evening, Carolyn; I thank you for stopping by along with the comments. It was a pretty good day. Had a deluge of rainwater that lasted all of 10 minutes and left about 1/2 inch of water. Street flooded all the way across. The wind was blowing really hard and now has blown out of the county toward Nebraska. Almost all of the rainwater has drained away now, and the temp has risen back into the 80s from the 60s.
Those backup alarms are there for a reason but there are times they are just overused. I was more upset they were using the forklifts while I was attempting to catch the horn music as the Zephyrs came into town. Oh well. There will be other days.

What will happen with the Canadian train strike for US? Bare shelves, another chance to inflate prices- will US train companies pick up the slack ? Heard too that next month Air Canada goes on strike. CP &CN are not in this area much, more up north or in a lash up. Did catch your 2fer& Darrell seems fun. The Canadian Government has forced the two railroads and the union to binding arbitration while putting the railroad workers back to work. After reading some of the sticking points, I side with the unions. I have not seen anything about Air Canada. I refuse to fly anyway. Rather ride in comfort by rail.
Darrell was able to sleep at home last night. We will see him again next week. I hope. He is a really nice guy and one heck of an ambassador for AMTRAK even without the coffee.
I did see that the head down has you covered down there. We are getting some of the same. Not as hot but more than enough. Time for all of that to just go away.

Yeah good morning Mike I hear a lot of excessive beep beep beep beep beep beep! Wonder what that is probably a big truck or something backing up? That has to be annoying to hear that. I hate that song. That beep beep beep thing always has annoyed me ever since its inception. Anyway it looks like your fmg has some new patrons. So anyway this is my last day of my vacation and then on Monday morning hopefully I'll go back to work. I work for the school system. Have a nice day out there Mike stay cool.
Good morning, Robert; I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. The back up alarms of the forklifts was getting to me this morning. It seemed the operators were having just a bit too much fun and enjoyed listening to that alarm on each of the forklifts. They are owned by the steel fabrication shop due south across from the depot. I understand working early in the day to beat the heat. I think they will also be working again tomorrow as they have a couple of major projects in progress. Just ruined my chance to pick up the horn music this morning. Oh well. There will be other times for that.
Our school district has been in session for two weeks. Used to start right after Labor Day. Now it is the middle of August with all the "in-service days", conferences, study days, and any other lame excuse they can think of while working 4-day school week sessions. Ok Off my soap box.
