Ill be honest. Id rather the money get wasted than spent on defenses. It's more hilarious. It's not even their money to give away, so Id rather it go to some guys smart enough to take it and survive than be wasted on the field for a lost cause. It also emphasizes the problems with our 'alliances' compared to the other side which is unified in their goal.

I am from Finland and I Can honestly say that our economy has not grown in 20 years and our government is literally drowning in debt. Our population is aging fast and the birth rate is decreasing soon to 1 baby per woman.
Based on this, we have ZERO morivation or ability to wage a war against anyone. And Russia knows this. This rearming process is hurting our economy when we have to cut from everything else: healthcare, Culture, education… I have bad feeling that we are strangling our country with this policy. And the people are split in two: average people who want to live in peace VS pro-war people who have nothing to lose

Russia Defence Ministry usually don’t say anything about their operations until they had achieved their objectives.
They are not like Zelensky and Ukrainian generals, Americans , Europeans who publicly told the whole world what their plans were during their counter offensive last year which made it easier for the Russians to prepare for their attack and we all know what happened to the Ukrainians.

@@patricklosi3358Not exactly sure, but Sweden was an actual major Imperial power in the 17th-early18th century, so they were not a pushover back then. Baltic sea was called Swedish lake, because it was nearly internal to Sweden controlled areas. Finland was back then a Swedish colony.
But just like many other Empires in Europe, their glorious and prospective empire made a terrible mistake and decided they could handle the Russians (then tsardom of Russia). That kind of thinking can be quite deadly. The Swedish empire tragically ended it's existence after Russian led coalition under Peter the Great kicked the snot out of Sweeds so hard, they lost Finland and most of their Empire and got traumatized so much, the descendents of the brave viking raiders became pacifists and neutrals for a couple hundred years... and Russia officially became an Empire.
On the positive note for Swedes - since you're both in NATO now, you should really consider asking Finns to help you build your own giant nuclear war bunkers deep underground to house your civilians. Finland already knows what's up if things keep going this way.

I always remember The invincible "Maginot line" in France before WW2 designed to save them from German invasion.... Defensive works look great until they are bypassed then they are useless....
In fact, many of their guns couldn't even turn around so the germans had to dismantle them and move them to their own line to hold off the Allies 4 years later.
Remember the battles along the 39th Parallel, where China and Nato Bled for years with minor gains?
Maginot Line was flawed from the beginning so its not the greatest example of what can be achieved with properly prepared terrain.
The Maginot line was incomplete, this is why the Germans invaded through the Ardennes . They didn't face the Maginot line.
The fact that it had to be completely bypassed and was not engaged, proves how effective a defensive line Maginot was.
This is not a war against Ukraine but against Nato

Your conclusions makes good sense. This does not seem a full armored offensive north of Kharkov so far. Russians still not provoking massive escalation with large arrow major offensives. We might however suddenly see full scale armored offensive at some point. They are now an extremely professional army that is well led.
Comparatively light forces have entered the northern area and the collapse of Ukraine's defence has surprised Russia, or so they say !
I suspect that local partisans have provided all the data that Russia needed. Partisans are becoming increasingly effective right across the front.
I'd say we first see the third prong appear aimed for Welykyj Burluk to take advantage of the absence of the Ukies who got rushed to Charkow. They will have to take troops back from the city to save the Oskil front from getting taken in the rear and that's when the Russians will push hard.
Wonder if they are waiting for the nine fields to be breached then trying a turtle tank attack? As the Ukrainians will have more trouble stopping the jf they don’t have large minefields
Vovchansk is not Bakhmut, there are no entrenched lines inside or around the town and Russia is closing in on 3 sides. Most of it will be taken in another week.
The BBC two days ago published an article regarding the evacuation of Vovchansk. One of the interviewed evacuees was a 65-old local who lived there for most if not all his life. They asked him where does he plan to go, and he said "I hope I can settle in Germany but have no idea how to get there.".
That single sentence tells you enough about the whole situation within Ukraine. Neither the ukranian government wants those displaced people to stay (unless they can be drafted within the army), nor the evacuees have any intention to stay somewhere else within Ukraine. Mind you, it is a big country, there are plenty of places where you can go.
This is also the reason why any population statistics, including about military draft, cannot be accurate in Ukraine. A lot of the population is no longer there.

I don't see how military exercizes or even deployment of small numbers of US troops in Finland would be a proper distraction at this point in time. There is no feasible scenario where the US or Finland would decide to randomly cross the Russian border so Russia might as well just send some recruits or trainees to walk around, fly some recognizance drones and wave hello ...
