- Our road trip through Europe in our self converted campervan, Safari, continues. This week, we are in Northern Spain and exploring the incredible mountains of Las Medulas, once mined for gold by the Romans, before we visit not one, but 57 stone mills on a hillside which has us truly enchanted.
These are secret spots of Northern Spain that were recommended to us by one of our wonderful subscribers and we're so grateful to them for sharing. If you have places that you think we should visit on our travels please let us know in the comments below, we'd love to hear from you.
We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We just returned from Northern Spain, and visited the mills (a bit drier, but still very quiet!) and Baiona. We loved it as well! Had to come back and re-watch this episode. We took pictures, of course, but your video made me re-live the whole experience. Thank you for documenting!

We love you videos (with or without 🐓 🐓!!). That was such a lovely hike and we loved seeing the mills and the stream. I love that you go to ‘different’ places. I often fine that a good rainstorm makes the air smell so much sweeter and fresher (but then again we’re from Wales, so we’ll practised in a rain storm!). Looking forward to next week. X

Really loved this video the heather made me feel very nostalgic for the Chimanimani mountains which used to be full of it. I love the way Crusoe chills even in the pouring rain, what a legend. See you next week, can't wait.

1. You need a side awning for your van so it doesn't get wet in there 😂
2. How do you deal with the wet clothes from the rain inside your van? I have nowhere to put them in mine lol

😂😂😂 Hi Louisa, great to hear from you. The clothes line works pretty well when it’s warm outside. Up in Scotland we basically just put everything wet in a plastic bag then went to a laundrette!
Side awning would be a good addition for sure!

That tree was amazing. But the mills were a wonderful find. Were any of them open? I totally agree with you that the rain in the trees is extremely calming and good for the soul. Also, walking through woodland right after the rain is just fantastic.

Las Medulas is an absolutely great place. Unfortunately the story behind isn‘t so happy because a lot of slaves died there.

The Harley broke down 3 days before leaving for Scotland so had to find another bike fast. O well adventure. If you get bored in the van take a look at the video.
