what we need to be grateful for is that Sondheim lived long enough to bless us with his genius for decades and we have his gifts forever. so, yes it is sad that he has passed but we need to, as this event in Times Square does, honor and celebrate his life. everyone comes with an expiration date. let's be happy actually. his passing gives us this opportunity to do that. and of course he would want just that. no tears and crying, come on, play my music! I spent a lifetime working on it!

Oh it is the word Forever in Sunday. It gets to me every time. And the tears flow. I also cry at animal videos. Love you, Steve.

For me, it's the line "on an ordinary Sunday". Because this was an ordinary Sunday...and Seurat made it extraordinary. That's the gift the artist gives the world.

Lin has said many times how much gratitude and respect he has for the man, and how his own career never would've happened if Sondheim hadn't existed. when Lin cries, you know he means it, and hearing his voice crack here...... it's just so SAD. Thank you for everything, Stephen. you will always be remembered.

Thank you, thank you! I’ve followed your career for ages - I’m not much younger than you at 82. I’ve had opportunity to sing your songs at stages of my life. These have drawn to a close. Rest well. I’ll join you soon.

If you haven't read these two volumes, GO GET THEM. They are an amazing peek into the mind of the great MC Sondheezy.

My heart is broken. Sondheim touched my soul, my very being. I fell in love with his music during 1984 - I put on PBS on a random Friday night - and Sweeney Todd was on Great Performances. I was hypnotized. Then I fell in love.

Listened to SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE at work today...it's introspective, and I was in the mood to introspect. Then it hit me like a lightning bolt...the staccato melodies mirrored George's pointilism in the painting. Only Stephen could've done that. I've always respected this show, and its ambition, but today, for the first time, I really felt like I "got" it. Okay, Stephen, I may not be familiar with all your works, but if you want to teach me from up there with your cast albums, I'm all ears. Just don't make Lin-Manuel cry...he starts, then I'll start, too!
