I had an experience like Quinni where I had a concert I was going to with my favorite band (Stray Kids!) but the 2 people I was with didn't know that they actually start on time vs American performances apparently have a different act before the main performance. So, they wanted to go to all these different places and look at stuff before the concert. I didn't notice how much my stress about being on time was showing. All I felt was stress and all I could think about was the time. Finally one of them noticed and we got there MAYBE 5 minutes before the show started. I really relate to Quinni and I wish I had the supportive friends and family she has. It's also why I do not like Sasha. The fact that Quinni went through so much FOR Sasha and Sasha had the audacity to say she's been through so much for Quinni when Sasha took away from Quinni's day to do things she wanted. It's been a while since I've seen the show, but I don't think any makes Sasha go up on my list of characters. If I was in Quinni's situation, after that I would've broke up. I know there's things people have to work through in relationships, but clearly Sasha doesn't seem to be trying to get to know or understand Quinni so they can work together through things and figure out how they can be there for each other and happy together and all that.
Unfortunately this is all negative for thoughts on it but dude Heartbreak High really did only bring me stress when I watched it and I had to finish it to get the answers and relieve it 😅

when quinni was excited to meet her favourite author and sasha could just not be happy for her and gets annoyed GOD she acts like she is being so protective and kind because of quinnis autism but she really isn’t 😭😭😭

Yeah what was most annoying is the fact that Quinni didn't even ask her to hang out with her that day Sasha literally inserted herself and then had the nerve to complain about it after
she's such a good example of a young performative activist who hasn't learned how to care for the cause over the optics- she probably really LIKED the idea of dating quinni because it made her feel inclusive and woke for being with an autistic person but the second it wasn't benefitting her anymore her annoyance came through and she clearly hadn't done any research on the realities of the situation

These episides really solidified my hatred for Sasha. She literally forced her way into this thing with Quinni and then acted like it was this huge burden. She literally didn't have to go! Quinni told her to go to the party multiple times and told her she didn't have to go to the book signing. In my opinion Sasha knew her and Quinni wasn't gonna work out after realising how little patience she had for Quinni and only stayed with her because dating a person on the spectrum made her seem more "woke" which it didn't because she just went around telling everyone that Quinni was on the spectrum despite Quinni going out of her way to hide it.

hmm, you have a point with her outing her on the bus, but i wouldn't think sasha thought through these things consciously that way, i personally think it's just a great example of what happens when you infantilise disabled people. which is super easy to fall into since so much of society tells us all that disability=less of a human (especially if you're only starting to learn about a disability like autism, who knows where sasha got her info from...) when sasha is inserting herself and acting as if she's quinni's caregiver while dismissing what she's actually saying (and her own wants/needs too), i think that's bc she wants to protect her and thinks that's the right thing to do. i feel like there would be more to learn if we assume good intentions, bc then we could *all* mess up like that and can learn from this example. psa: actually listen to disabled people and trust us when we tell you our wants, needs, and capabilities, we know ourselves best :')
@chramoso Sasha was being majorly narcissistic. She just 'met' Quinni and when she met her she presented herself as 'normal' so why would Sasha think that all of a sudden Quinni can't take care of herself with Sasha. I agree that society has painted disabled people in the way you described and that really does cause people to infantise them but Sasha made it seem like Quinni was dependent on her ro do everything when Quinni literally showed that she was fine without her and was perfectly fine doing certain things alone when she knew it wasn't something that would interest Sasha while Sasha made decisions for Quinni and told her what she wanted and didn't let her make any decisions herself
One thing I love about this show is that queer is normalised and natural to the point where you actually don't know who's straight or not hahah Typically in American tv show's they sort of dance around and limit queer storylines or characters and it makes it kind of weird to watch sometimes but the way queer is portrayed in this show just seems so natural and normal and It's such a refresher to see and I love it!

as an autistic fem quinnis writing and acting is just so good. everything with sasha hit so close to home the first time i watched it i cried for so long 😭. sasha inviting herself and then getting pissy with quinni for being herself and having fun will never not piss me off 😔.

I wouldn't say that Sasha should have "known what she was getting into" with Quinni because Quinni's autism doesn't make her a difficult person.
Like Sasha infantilized Quinni when she was told Quinni's autistic.
When she assumed what might overstimulate Quinni earlier on without talking with Quinni at all about it.
When she assumed Quinni wouldn't want to do drugs at a party.
When she assumed she could talk about Quinni's autism with anyone and everyone when Quinni wasn't apart of the conversation and the people she was talking to didn't know beforehand.
When she got mad at Quinni for not following her rules.
Respecting your partner and their boundaries is baseline for any relationship.
Nothing to do with knowing what you're getting yourself into when dating someone on the spectrum.

harper & dusty fucked up big time
Harper and Dusty were both as fucked up as Malakai. It’s not like they were sober people preying on the only high person there. Harper was just as drunk, high and traumatised, and her coping mechanism seems to be sex, so as fucked up as it was, she was genuinely trying to comfort him. Dusty, was just in it for the sex, so I don’t know how I feel about him, but I don’t hate Harper over what happened. And at least she kept trying to check in with Malakai after the fact, and once she sobered up she realised that her coping mechanism wasn’t the way to help him.
@@Drummer4Presidentum she did not just go thru a traumatic experience like Malakai did don’t invalidate it. Also even if they were all under the influence, malakai went thru the most traumatic experience and was the most vulnerable and they took advantage of him
@@rodsitamara how does acknowledging Harpers on going CPTSD, and her poor coping mechanisms, in any way invalidate Malakais recent trauma with the police? And just because Malakai appeared more fucked up, doesn’t take away from the fact that all 3 of them were drunk and high and wouldn’t reasonably be able to give consent. BUT, of the 3 of them, Dusty is the only one who was in it purely for the sex, and didn’t have anything else going on, unlike Harper and Malakai, who were using each other for comfort.

I really appreciate how nuanced and fair your takes are!! ❤ So many people paint Ca$h as an angel and Darren as selfish without understanding the complicated relationship between queerness/self worth/hypersexuality. Especially as someone fem presenting, they have probably dealt with so many bicurious guys who waste their time and damage their self esteem hence the kneejerk reaction. And then Harper gets all the heat for the threesome when Dusty took advantage of Malakai too. Its so refreshing to watch someone not turn it into heroes and villains and just understand the messiness of being a teenager! 💕

I thought the exact same thing in ep 6 that was supposed to be the best day ever for Quinni and Sasha just invited her self along and brung it down. It really annoys me that Sasha just can’t get a clue about how she’s effecting Quinni.

Quinni is honestly the best autistic rep I've ever seen and as someone who's autistic, it is so refreshing to be able to see myself in a character so authentically. With the actress being autistic in real life as well, it's like we're finally being represented in a realistic tone rather than the stereotypes people have perpetuated for decades. The cinematography through it all is so similar to how it actually feels to experience a meltdown; it's like a panic attack but every single atom on your body is eroding with the hottest flame. The scene on the bus is so familiar to so many autistic people and the way they captured it is so so realistic

Quinni and Malakai are definitely my favorite characters, I just wish I could protect them both
Harper and Dusty were also high but they were in a more clear mindset OBVIOUSLY than Malichai. I think Harper had good INTENTIONS thinking she could sort of help him forget for a while but ultimately went about it in the VERY wrong way.

-3:57 just some info about education systems in Aus: each state/territory has their own organisation of education. For instance, in the state Queensland, you can sometimes find middle schools. In the state New South Wales, however, (which is where this show is set), high school begins in Year 7 (age 12-13) and ends in Year 12 (age 17-18). Sometimes there are exceptions to this system, like, where I live, the local university has a senior campus that only teaches Year 11 and 12. Hartley may be a senior college (college = school), which could explain its' small number of students in the assembly. What I think tho, is that the school has divided assemblies into thirds; Years 7&8, Years 9&10 and this group, Years 11&12, so what we're seeing is the senior school assembly. I could be wrong tho.
-5:02 a waste curriculum is mandatory in Primary School here (primary school = elementary school; in Aus it's Kindergarten-Year 6, so age 5-6 until age 11-12). At my primary school, we did extensive education in recycling and waste management. Compost, recycling and garbage bins were around the school and for the most part, they were used correctly and the grounds were clean. In high school, however, we didn't do anything about recycling and waste management. I guess they figured we had already learned enough, but we only had garbage bins and there was a ton of litter around. Idk if this was just my school, but that's my experience.

-22:51 Yes! Missy's also First Nations. This is an aspect of her friendship with Malakai, and the later connection with him and Jay. It's a baseline of connection for them both as they have a similar culture. Something I forgot to mention is that people like Missy and Malakai who are part of this community, are called Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The term "native" isn't used in Australia, but they're also called Indigenous Australians, so you could refer to them as that, or First Nations Australians, too.

Think this was in Episode 3 & 4 but police often come to Australian schools and give talks about behaving properly - they even have a School Liason Officer especially for this role. In preschools and primary schools they bring their police cars and you can climb in them which everyone loves!
This is shot right near my house and the place where Darren works is called Harry's Cafe De Wheels in Tempe. I'm going to have to keep my eye out for them when they shoot S3! (Crossing fingers!)
