I’m glad you enjoyed it. Arsenic & Old Lace is my favorite Cary Grant comedy followed closely by The Philadelphia Story which also has a Criterion release.
Lisa, oh yes, I forgot about The Philadelphia Story. I should have mentioned that one too in the recommendations. Thanks for bringing that excellent title up!
I can't wait to pick this up!!! I am a huge Carey Grant fan!
Arsenic and Old Lace is a fun one, John! Hope you enjoy it when you have a chance to pick it up!
I just picked up my copy of this wonderful film yesterday at the B&N sale for July 2023. I used to have the less than nice Warner DVD. I love the fact that they tried to get Boris Karloff for the film since he did the play. I’d wanted this Blu-ray since Criterion first released it but the stores that I would go to would always be sold out of it. I was just lucky that it was back in stock during this sale. Still have yet to watch it!
It’s pretty good, Harrison! Hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to see it.
@@20thand21stMovies Watched it earlier today and greatly enjoyed it! Simply as wonderful as I remembered!
I need to grab this. I love this movie. Carey Grant is my favorite golden age actor.
Cary Grant is one of my favorites from classic Hollywood as well and he’s really good in Arsenic and Old Lace.
Great review James! Thanks.
Thank you, Carl! Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this film. As someone who’s a fan of both Cary Grant and Peter Lorre, I can’t wait to obtain this film at the B&N Criterion sale next month.
Arsenic and Old Lace is a good one. Hope you enjoy it when you have a chance to pick it up!
Jean Adair actually helped nurse Carrie grant back to health some 20 years before this film
Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing, Nick, and Happy New Year!
Hi! I like your channel a lot. Favourite comedy Cary Grant (after Arsenic): "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxxer", with Myrna Loy and a teenage Shirley Temple! Lots of great dialogue. Favourite Capra: "You Can't Take It With You" from 1938, with an anarcho-communist message that's never been more timely than today.
ninety weeks, thank you and I’m glad to hear you enjoy this channel! Thank you for those recommendations of films starring Grant and directed by Capra. I’ll need to check those out at some point 😀.
Heading to barnss and noble today or the next day or two to grab this
Awesome, Balkee! I hope you enjoy your copy when you get it.
Held up for three years
Yes, until the end of the theater run.
Looking at picking this up but Barnes and Noble doesn't ship to me here in Australia so i;m trying to find a seller here that has it
the only criterion Blu Ray'''s I own are the Wes Anderson one's (I still need to pick up The darjeeling Limited)
Yes, and I still need to watch my copy of The Darjeeling Limited. It’s been in my collection for a while.
Why did it wait until 1944 to be released?
The theater play was still going at the time the movie was made so Warner Bros. agreed to wait until the theater run was over before releasing the film.
@@20thand21stMovies could you imagine if they did that today?
