- Crash Course on our new e-Bike - Full Time RV Living: We test our our new Lectric e-bikes for the first time while in Great Lakes. The electric bikes were awesome. Let us know if you are thinking about electric bikes. We also find a water leak in Ruby. We worked to find out exactly where the leak is coming from. We also spend time in Fort Wayne, IN at a Boondockers Welcome and we get to visit with our daughter and SIL.

Brought back memories of RTC as I was an RDC and LCPO there from 1999 to 2002. Thanks for sharing and good luck to your son-in-law. The most rewarding job I had in the Navy!
Thank you for your service as well!! We were stationed at the Naval Hospital back in 99-01.
@@todayissomeday That's interesting. My wife was a PNC and worked at the PSD on NTC during that time. Small world.
Fellow Veteran Thank You for Your Service from aa Proud Air Force Veteran .
@@bobshaw4063 Thank you and appreciate your service as well! I spent six weeks at Maxwell AFB attending the Senior NCO Academy.
I have 2 Lectric"s and I changed the settings for my wife so the assist only kicks in when she uses the throttle. Gives her total control of the assist. She pedals it like a normal bike most of the time (more exercise) and uses the throttle while still pedaling on hills or to catch up with me. Go into the "P" settings, it's P10. Set it to 1 for throttle only. Default setting is 2.
We are going to try this, thanks!
Totally awesome, our son just graduated from the USS Reuben James Div 943. We traveled there for graduation in our fifth wheel. Hooyah Navy!
Congrats! Go Navy!
Please Thank Your Son for his Service from a Proud Air Force Veteran .
God bless our service people. We are very grateful for their service. May the good Lord keep them safe.
WOW, memories! did my training in Waukegan, IL in 76.
Congratulations to your son! And if I’ve neglected to say it before, thank you all for your service. My Lectric ebike was just delivered and its been raining ever since. Looking forward to getting out on it. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Go Navy!
Thanks you Sharon! The ebikes are really a lot of fun!!! Go Navy!
You were at my old stopping grounds Great Lakes Naval Training Center. I retired in March of 2019 as a Great Lakes Police Officer. You should ride the trails at Illinois Beach Resort on Lake Michigan. The trails reach up into Wisconsin. No rules against Ebikes as far as I know. Safe travels to you.
Thank you Sir for your service, and your son and your wife.
Hand Salute!!!!
Great video as usually guys.......Love Love Love watching your son in law graduating with your daughter included in the ceremony. Family is always first in our book so seeing you with your family always touches a warm spot in our hearts. Hope you were able to get your water leak fix and are problem free for awhile anyway. We all know how it goes with RVs though. Positive attitude with a quick temporary fix is always the way to go. Love you guys.....Stay Safe: :)
Thanks Bob! We are one happy Navy family and wouldn't have missed it for anything!
Congratulations to your son!
Thanks to your and your family for your service. My son just graduated RTC in Great Lakes on July 17, 2020. His Petty Officer was Officer Nail!
That is very cool! Congrats to your son!
Congrats to your son!!!!! That is so awesome!! Great video and great info on the bikes!
Thanks
Congrats to your son in law!!👍👍👍
Phil and Stacy I know that was a real proud moment for the both of you watching your son-in-law graduate from RDC training @ Great Lakes Naval Training Center . My father & brother both went to Navy Boot Camp there as well . Please tell your Son-In-Law I said belated Conratulations & I thank him for his Service .
We certainly will! We were and still are very proud of him. He is doing a great job.
Don't worry about not getting enough exercise. If it gets you off the couch more than before, then it is priceless.
love your dog photobombing you through the window.. so cute.. also love your e-bikes.. hope the leak gets fixed and congrats to your son and thanks for your service.. all of you!! :)
Gizmo is always watch us through the window. He always greets us there when we come back to the rig.
I think the advantage of an electric bike is it will let you take unfamiliar trails and if the trail is too hard or you go to far, you know the bike will get you home. It’s good you’re physically confident. A lot of us aren’t and the electric let’s us be more adventurous.
My doggies have similar allergies, I use Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar diluted with warm water, saturate some cotton balls I squeeze the liquid over the paws and inside the toe pads inside between the toes and rub it in..it works wonders for any type of yeasty problem or allergy itching on their paws especially if they get pink and irritated between the toes. You’d think that the apple cider vinegar would sting but as long as (and must be) diluted with the warm water it’s actually very cleansing and it brings their skin back to a good pH mantle. 😀
Thanks so much. I had not heard of this.
Congrats to Rusty on his latest accomplishment and to you both for the continued Naval legacy. Safe travels.
Thanks Kevin!
Congrats to your son! Thank you all for your service to our country. You are appreciated.
We have Rad e-bikes and LOVE them. It makes me feel young again. Hope to meet you one day.
Phil, the black conduit tray under slide should be easily removed with just a few screws. Your drain lines are routed through this area from your slide. Most likely your drain line conduit has hole or has been pinched from moving the slide in and out. This was one of the areas that we had a hole from our kitchen drain line. We have a Tiffin Phaeton 40IH, this is a common issue. Good luck...
Thanks Lance. It was a pinched drain line. The hose was too long to begin with, replaced with a shorter hose.
Thanks for the video! So nice to see you work through the problem solving process for the water leak.
OMG Phil. When I was watching the water leaking so deep inside your RV, my 1/8" long hair was standing up on my neck and head. So glad to see in the comments below that they were able to find it, and fix you up. Hopefully Tiffin took care of the bill. RV repairs are the things nightmares are made of! Thanks for capturing the RV fail so all of us don't feel alone when we have ours.
The bill was all ours but it wasnt bad. Watch for a future video talking about it. We try to show it all. Unfortunately it isn't all rainbows and ponies! It has its ups and downs just like stick and bricks life.
Thank you and your family for your service.
Just found your channel and have been binge watching. Our son is also in the Navy stationed right now out in CA, and the other son in the Marine Corp. Thank you and your family for their service. Love your channel.
Thank you Robbin. Tell you Sons we said thanks for their service as well!
e-trailer has some good ones and I was able to install it in an hour easily.
Nice bikes, Nice video, very Nice to see the young ones. Thumbs up for the editing. Happy travel !
Thanks!!
First let me say THANK U guys for your service and willingness to serve this great Country... 2. lv the bikes
Thank you Kelly.
Buy the roof mounts...I love ours. THule.
you need a 2 inch receptacle hitch, then we use a YAKIMA fold down bike rack which will carry four bikes. I keep the rack in the basement of coach, on the back of my jeep jk, or actually in the rear of the JK itself. I really don't like to have the bikes out in the weather.
Thanks Thomas!
OMG Great Lakes brings back memories and shoving snow at 4 in the morning, but would do again in a heartbeat ❤️👍
Hahahaha! Recruits dont hit the snow as much as they use to.
Thanks again guys for another great video sorry about your bad luck with your sink seems like it’s always something when you have an RV
since the day my son swore in making a commitment to the US navy, I watch the PIR every week, this week I noticed your son in law had a graduating division, what a proud moment! HOO-YAH Navy!
That is really cool! That was his first graduating ship!
Cool bikes, thanks for letting me know about some trails don't let you ride them
Congratulations to your son for his promotion! I'm sure you are really proud. Please keep us updated if you continue to like your e-bikes. We have given them some thought, but haven't pulled the trigger yet as we have just completed putting Battle Born batteries, upgrading our 2000 inverter to 3000 and adding east starts to the A/Cs. I hope your water leak isn't a major expense. Until next time...Safe travels 😊💞🇺🇸
Thanks Janice!! We really are proud of both my Son and Son-in-Law. We do like the ebike a lot. You are going to love those Battle Born batteries....they were a game changer for us!!!
Still remember Boatswains mate Swaney when I was at Glakes training center in 1970. Winter was very cold.
We were stationed there for 3 years....cold is an understatement!
We've camped at Chain O'Lakes. Great campground.
Hey, my husband suggested taking the battery off the e-bikes when motors are prohibited. Then you don’t need to carry both types of bikes in your rig. They shouldn’t be able to fine you with no battery.
Good call.....we have talked about that as well. It is something we will try.
Hoo yah sailor, I retired as an RDC in 2004 and its an 18 hour day at best. He will be making his money that's for sure. Enjoy!
Yes, he will. He is loving it so far.
Your son was my RDC. A great man. I learned a lot about how to be a good sailor and a good man from him. Scary as hell but a great man.
It is such a small world. What ship were you in?
Install your own trailer hitch. You usually need two people but it is pretty simple and only takes 30 minutes. I have installed 2. Last one on a Honda CR-V. I installed a class 3 even though you can't pull more than a john boat, jetski, or 4 wheeler with the tow weight limitations. By installing class 3, I can use a 2" receiver. Opens up to a lot more possibilities. I use Etrailer.com to get my hitches and accessories from. I think it was a little over $100 for the hitch. Then add whatever bike carrier you want. Just keep in mind that ebike tires are wider and the bikes are much heavier. Pay attention to the specs when ordering.
Thanks for the info.
If you are in the Indianapolis area "In Motion RV Repair", Valerie & Robbie the owners are AWESOME.... They especially help folks who are on the road get back on the road quickly.
That is great info!!! Thanks.
Love the part of your Son's graduation! I know ya'll are very proud! Hope he enjoys and excels in this new assignment!! Good luck with the leak😊Safe travels!!
Thanks Pamela!
Here is your answer for a Trailer hitch and bike rack for your electric bikes.
Rockymounts Monorail 11415 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack (2" Hitch) and CURT 13172 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver for Select Jeep Cherokee. I ordered both of these for my 2 Ride Scoozy Fat Tire e-bikes and they worked out perfectly. I have a 2018 Jeep Cherokee so the hitch you pick may be different. The trick is to go to a muffler shop for installation. I paid $120.00 for the Hitch and $120.00 for the installation. The Bike rack was the most expensive part at around $400.00. Watch the youtube videos on the Rockymounts bike rack and you'll understand why it's the one to pick. Good Luck!
Great info Mike. Will look into this!
You two are so much fun. You make me want to hit the road but we are not wanting to leave our 8 grandchildren who are for the time being all here in New York with us. Love your letchworth hat. So glad you got to travel our beautiful state.
Congratulations toy your son in law Hope you get your leak fixed soon . You guys are Awesome
Thanks Duane!
Not many racks will support two heavy fat tire bikes.. We have them also, we bought a "rocky mounts" rack - Very nice and good quality.
Thanks Jim.
I watch some of your vids two and three times; I really wished I had RV’d years ago; I’d have ♥️ed to meet up with you both; you’re my kind of people!! I too, am a Vet of the Vietnam skirmish; I was a US Naval Hospital Corpsman, almost went FMF, but, my discharge date was going to be too soon, so, they opted for me to serve at the Philly Naval Hospital, PA
Sea Sucker is a super cool company out of the Tampa area. They are suction cup mounts with adapters that connect your forks to. We use the mini bomber model which holds two bikes and you can suction them to your jeeps back windows. each suction cup when pumped down hold 200PSI plus. there are 4 cups on ours. It will not come off your car until you disconnect it. The other plus is when you all go ride your bikes somewhere and leave your jeep in a parking lot. you can remove the sea sucker in seconds and place it in the trunk. Check them out. As a CZcamsr I am sure you could work out a test in trade for some publicity. Hope it helps. Ryan
Thanks for the info Ryan! Will give them a look.
Luv my lectric XP! Use it for running errands from the house & the boat.
jam packed with all kinds of stuff in this great episode. what a drag, but really good teamwork trouble-shooting the leak and your hair at the end
of the episode looked marvelous. and i learned that sailors marched- who knew :-) congrats to Rusty.
Thanks Allen. We can march with the best of them.
We just installed a front hitch receiver and bought a e-bike carrier. A little pricey for the carrier but is lockable, plus a lockable cable and very strong.
Since you're going to Red Bay, you may want to check-out H&H supply in Huntsville,Al. for install. I bought my hitch online from E-trailer for $147 and install cost $100. Much cheaper than U-haul.
Family and I are just wrapping up a weekend at chain o lakes. Great park for canoe and kayak and fishing.
Sweet. I hope you had a great time.
Glad you realize you have a leak, hope you get the leak fixed soon.
I had the Dealership add my hitch to my 2015 Trailhawk. The down side to a non-factory installed hitch is that you signed a wavier to not tow more than 2000 pounds. I use a Thule bike rack for my mountain bike, hang over the bar bike rack. A friend of mine has an E-bike and use a tray type bike rack from Thule. I enjoy all your CZcams videos
Thanks for the info Greg.
In the case where you only have 30 amp but there's also a 15 amp outlet using a dual adapter gets you 45 amps.
Camco Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male Item # CAM55025
Thanks for the info.
That's pretty neat . Never imagined it was possible to get 45AMP electric service instead of 50AMP
We have a 2016 33AA, Had the kitchen sink leak also. It was located where the flex hose comes out of
The tray under slide. Took the tech at red bay a couple of hours to fix it by cutting
the hose were it was pinched and putting in a pvc splice fitting. We'll see how long it lasts.
They did the same for us. The hose was too long to start with.
I grew up in Ft Wayne in the 60s and 70s before joining the Navy and discovering the rest of the world. Albion is quite familiar. My family had a lake cottage at Diamond Lake not far from Ligoner IN.
Thanks for your service!
I do love your videos - especially as a Navy veteran - would love to hear more about your Navy time! I'm a full-time RVer on west coast; maybe we'll meet some day 😎
We have a video about our careers if that is what you are looking for: czcams.com/video/_j1Brv9h9W4/video.html
Thanks - loved it!
Fellow Veteran Thank You for your Service from an Air Force Veteran & the son & Brother , nephew , & brother-in--law of Navy Veterans . Grandson of a WWI Army Veteran & cousin of an Air Force Veteran.
So, you fantastic people been away. I'm happy you're back with awesome footage. Btw, stop making me giggle. Oh, congratulations on your son's graduation. Go Army! Just kidding, but we vets know the feeling of branch pride...
PEACE
Thanks Carmen. Good to see you.
Carmen Fellow Veteran Thank You for Your Service from a proud Air Force Veteran .
Curt manufacturing (hitch)
It’s a quality product and they make it easy for DIY.
I used on a suv I had and put it on in 30 min in driveway !!
I have a Curt hitch too and it took me about 35 minutes to put on my Rav 4
Awesome - congrats to your son!!
welcome to the world of electric exploration have fun and enjoy
I love our e-fat bikes too. Haibike full fat six helped me loss 60 lbs after retiring from the FAA and now I’m all in on MTB.
We love fat biking in the sand around Folsom Lake and Granite Bay. My Ibis Ripmo loves the trails in the Tahoe/Truckee.
Bring on the Van....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️🤘🤘🤘🚐🚐🚐💥💥💥💥🍺🍺🍺🍺
Congratulations to your son! Thank you for his service and your service! I wish I would’ve known you were at Hershey. I’ve been there several times and that’s where I bought my RV this year. Would’ve love to meet you in person. Looking forward to that in the near future once we take delivery and get on the road ourselves. 😀
We had a meet up in Hershey. Be sure to follow us on fb or ig or join our group in RVillage: www.rvillage.com/group/3427/you-me-the-rv and you will see all of our scheduled events.
I used to live like 3 miles from that state park, absolutely loved it
It was awesome!
Congrats! What a cool event to be a able to attend.. You are correct.... Army calls them Drill Sergeants. Also, love the electric bikes.. We are thinking of adding that to our bike collection. Those bikes or “Rad” bikes from Seattle. So we will see. Great video! Thanks for sharing your adventure with everyone.
Have you ever thought of trying a roof rack? You can buy and install yourselves.
We have.....Stacy is just a little vertically challenged...LOL
Congrats on your son graduating!!!
Nice chase down on the water leak.
Thanks! Trying to get ready for RV Tech School!! LOL
Congratulations that were I went back in 1990
Shawn Fellow Veteran Thank You for Your Service from an Air Force Veteran and VA Retiree .
Congrats on the graduation.
Hope you find the leak before it damages anything.
Don't mind exercise when there's a sammich at the end!😎
Safe travels and good health.
Thanks Curt!
Our e bikes are supposed to be delivered this coming Tuesday. Can't wait.
One CZcams RVer who bought an E-Bike says it's worked out well for him and he lost 10 lbs in the first month. He said he rides and pedals a lot more than he thought he would. He admitted he wasn't riding as much as he should have prior to getting the E-Bike. Leaks in RVs are a RVers nightmare. I use a USB Endoscope Borescope Inspection Camera to help find the source.
There is a hitch from “just for jeeps” about $237.00 easy install just remove the shroud and install.
Check with hide-a-hitch for your bikes. Your water leak kind of seemed to be coming from a possible t fitting for the drain. I guess your rig has real cabinets with an actual back, which prevents you from getting to some of your plumbing.
I saw those rugged Electric bikes. They seemed cooler due to that and that brand is more affordable. Thanks for sharing them! Congrats to son? SIL on graduating. In Air Force we call them MTL's.
Thanks alaskangal82! The bikes are WAY cool and at a great price! Thanks for your service as well!!
I pick up my hitches at etrailer. They will look like OEM. They usually have videos to show you how to install it. I am probably 10 yrs older than you. It is usually really easy. Maybe an hour.
Thanks Mark.
Etrailer.com sell hitches and has video instructions that are vehicle specific. I have done my vehicle and helped a friend do his. Very easy.
Thanks so much! will check it out.
You might check with a U-Haul store for a hitch. I had my last add-on hitch installed by U-Haul and i liked the hitch and the price was right. I hope that helps, Paul from Texas. Note: my three daughters were born at St. Francis hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN. Lots of good memories from that area.
That is cool! Thanks for the info.
If you get to a park that won't allow electric powers bikes just take the battery out and it is allowed and they peddle just like a regular bike.
We have. Thanks.
Congrats to your son. You were 5min away from me. Great Lakes Naval station is 5min south from me.
We were stationed there about 20 years ago. I went to Grayslake for my nursing.
Thanks to you and family for your service. Could you share what brand of bike helmets you guys have? Thanks.
Also, Phil, it is very important to carry a spare battery for your drill(s). Couldn’t you call Tiffin and have them talk you through it, or send some one out to you??
We have extra batteries now.
I ordered my Lectric bike on 3/9/20. They expect delivery to be the first week of May. Due to the long wait they refunded my 49.00 saddle bag fee and are sending them for free. I'm sure that I'll be very happy with my purchase.
Nice!!
Curt Manufacturing makes a hitch for your Jeep.
All federal parks have been declared league for pedal assist bikes.
We bought 2 and love them awesome bikes and an awesome company
We agree!!
thank you for so much useful information.
Thanks for hanging out with us!
Just go to U-Haul for a hitch.
I have them on my radar. Thanks
Congratulations to your son in law, My son's PIR is 10 /11, in 2 weeks, and he is SHIP 02 USS Ruben James DIV 949 Ship Staff /Honor Guard. So I am not sure how far behind your videos are , chances are you guys were there with him, LOL
Your Jeep has a top rack so why not get a bike roof rack. If you travel only a few miles from the rv to where you are going bike riding it should not be much inconvenience.
We thought about that....but Stacy is vertically challenged and wouldn't be able to do it by herself.
If you were in my area (Richmond VA) I would help you install a hitch on your Jeep. Very easy to do. Wiring and brake controller is the biggest time consumer if the vehicle was not designed with a hitch in mind.
Go Navy. USS Dallas SSN 700 sailor. Love your videos.
Thank You for your Service from a Proud Air Force Veteran .
Thank You for Serving from a Proud Air Force Veteran
Ha before going to Red Bay check out Lakeshore Custom RV the owner Nathan has lots experience with Tiffins maybe he can fit u in. His guys did great job on our Open Road. He’s does everything also not in Red Bay just north in Iuka Ms 👍🏽
Great video, as usual. Please film the Tiffin service experience, when you go there. Sucks that you have to go, but curious as to how efficient the experience will be. The Next Exit CZcams people had a really bad experience getting their rig fixed. NOT at Tiffin, I don't remember where they went. Thanks in advance, Jayman...
We had the hose replaced at Tiffin and it was flawless. Those guys are the ones that know the RV inside and out and have access to all the parts. The original hose was too long causing it to pinch and crack.
@@todayissomeday I know that you guys already had this fixed, but this was a common drain hose problem. On our Phaeton, the hose was wire tied to the other wiring. When the slide went in and out, the hose eventually kinked and a leak occurred. This problem was so common that Tiffin even had a part # for the repair.
Love it your Son-in-law may be training some of the recruits my Daughter puts in the NAVY. You must be working today saw that you replied to some of my comments!!!
That is cool! I hope she loves recruiter duty. Rusty is loving pushing boots!
Another entertaining Video! Liquid flow control is always an issue.
Put the bikes on top
I just bought what looks like the same model E bike as you have. After having not ridden a bike for about 30 years I had a heck of a time just trying to get it moving from a standstill. Once I got it moving I had no issues. It feels to me that the pedals are directly under the seat, instead of slightly forward like on a regular bike. Thinking it was just me, I hopped on a regular bike and had no issues getting started. I'm glad no one saw me trying this for the first time. :) Any tips on the best way to get it moving from a standstill?
hey guys, a nice ebike rack is Sarris. made in the USA capable of 2x 65 lbs bikes. that should work. Can b put on either car or motorcoach. Love the vids. Keep em coming.
Thanks Larry!!
