I worked in PNG for 3 years , yes the country is tough ,very tough, violent crimes and carjacking etc are very common.
However the common working folks are a very good lot. I had a tough enitial period with the staff of the company i was working with ,however as i got to know and understand them and they got to understand me ,it was a breeze thereafter, all my foreman, would have given their right arm for me.I pray that they and their families continue to remain blessed.

As a concerned citizen I want to improve the experience for tourists. For your bad experiences was it related to customer service you received from the hotel and restaurant staff only? If you stayed in a different hotel with better customer service would that have changed the overall experience?

No its mostly ok. Just a few spots like near airport, near settlements maybe and not so good at night in some places as alcoholic/drug addicts can rob or worse.
