I love that you are doing this but - seriously more straight-forward, get to the point straight away - it’s OT - please deliver it that way - I’m subscribed for now but not if the waffle continues.
Thanks for taking the time to educate and add value - your time and spirit is appreciated ;)

Yes, this happened with my wife, she eat well and then refused to eat or even drink ample water daily. She would get food in her mouth and instead of swallowing it, spit it out of mouth -- then proceed to wash the entire mouth over and over with water; all being spit out [wiping lips and then walk away from the table. The other strange change was she slept most of the day, then walked about the house all night -- moving stuff [or hiding it]: take from one place to stuff into another. To make her eat again the doctor at rehab center gave her Dronabinol 2.5mg daily. She had two strokes with dementia in the background; now she barely can walk or hold her balance. Not eating will bring eventual death.

I am dealing with this very issue at the moment. My mother in law lives with us and has dementia. She has an upcoming doctors appt so we will def cover this with her doctor. We have reduced the amount of food we place in front of her and we make sure we give her high calorie drinks like ensure but not ensure. She can't have dairy vut we found a plant based high calorie drink from Kate Farms. This has really helped alot. Thanks for this video.

I don’t think the kitchen staff (huge facility) are trained on how to present food to someone with dementia. My mum 101 had stitches in her mouth from a biopsy and it took 5 days before they purified her food for her to eat. By then her brain was saying what is this slop. My sister and I had to sit with her and prod her to eat something. They were ticked off with us for being there.

God bless you! ❤ Yes my Mom has lewy body dementia and she is out of breath doing anything and will eat, but says she is full after about a cup of food. Takes strength out of her to eat. Thank you so much for this video. I am starting to give her protein shakes with her normal breakfast. ❤

What if you have to feed them, they say they’re hungry, but they close their mouth so tightly. Or when they open their mouth they barely open their mouth or their teeth are in the way. Any suggestions on how to coax them to eat?

This is a really good question Neri. My apologies on taking so long to respond! I've been in the middle of some caregiving myself over the last month. I'll plan to address this in an upcoming CQOTW, but a little quick tip is to put just a small amount of food on the lips. The person will usually lick it off reflexively, which can kickstart eating. Make sure the food is something they can taste! Many people with advanced dementia can only taste sweet and salty.

I'm concerned for a friend with alzheimers, he's deteriorating, not eating ,very frail. I was hoping for some dietary advice on preparation of essential nutrients to suggest to the family who appear not well informed. The advice on smaller meals with less assortment of items is helpful but I struggled to watch to the end as that was the only tip .
