    As an Assembly coder from the 80's I feel like nobody has really been coding since the mid 80's when C took over because the CPU's speed increased and RAM's price went down. Since that time developers don't have a clue what exactly the machine does. When they call a functio they don't know what the Stack is doing with the register contents, etc, etc.

      it's kind of necessary to have layers of abstraction as the logic of the program gets more and more complex. one could argue that assembly is still one level above pure 'machine code' - why don't we program in binary directly!

      @@vinylcabasse coding directly in Machine Language is almost impossible for complex programs because you need to calculate memory addresses each time you make a change in it 🤒. The beauty of an assembler is that it calculates the addresses for you from labels once compiling. For short programs in microcontrollers or drivers using binary could still be possible though. Actually in the 80's before I could afford to buy an assembler I would code rutines in Hex (instead of binary) that I would insert in a Basic program and call. We all did that cause assemblers were expensive.

      Disagree. I perform several symbolic computations that are better explained by natural languages than any other programing language. Natual languages includes mathematical and physical jargon, as well as all its symbols, which is not necessarily based entirely in operations with integers, but other more geometrical operations. I belive that coding will become more of a mathematician's (or physicist's) job than a programmer's job with this phase transition. There are already people thinking in higher levels of abstraction but without computational support. This developments on learning will bring actual computations more close to this highly abstract people.

    • @YungLeanSippa9937
      @YungLeanSippa9937 Před 2 měsíci +3

      What does this even mean? Programming languages like python are already at peak abstraction, and they are most definitely not useful for everything. You pay the price of granularity for abstraction. Mathematicians and physicists will most certainly not replace programmers, the job of a software engineer is to articulate human intent in a concise, efficient, and easy to understand way. It just happens that we use programming languages to express this human intent. Painting the skill sets that these fields require with the same brush implies ignorance.

    I think it will affect coding one way or another. My friend is saying with Github Co-Pilot, he can do 4-5 coders job by himself so there might be smaller IT tech teams in future but will solely depend on how Govt. regulate this.

      used github copilot it did improve my speed by 60% but the more complex your code is the harder it will be to rely on GitHub copilot. For e.g when I was working on a project with too many files it was not able to do anything at all. Most of the companies will need to train their custom AI model per project to solve this problem. Even if they did they will simply start working on more projects to keep improving. So I don't think coding is going to die anytime soon but just the speed to complete a project will increase significantly.

Of course it's not AGI, the answer is combined probably from many books and articles about, but still even "It" said, that most likely all failsafe mechanisms and protocols, attempts to control it - will fail. So the best way to try to make it good is to involve in development many different experts from different fields (psychology, math, ethics..) The goal is to put in core of AGI ideas that's in favor of humankind, not against it. And here I think is the main worry now, because all the developers as far as I understand, mathematicians, engineers, etc. Smart people, of course, but not necessarily "humane"😂

    It will ruin it, same things happened in music and journalism.
    When you make something easier to access, more people come in with a lower standard. In music in the 1960s you had to be a good musician to be a top artist, great voice or know your chops on an instrument, entry level today can be a guy/girl who cant sing or play an instrument, barley rap, knows zero music theory but they get pre mad samples knock them together on a computer and have a hit record. The artist has been dumbed down and the audience has lowered its expectations with it.
    Journalism today is anyone with an opinion and a youtube channel, the idea of investigating source material, trust networks, seeking truth, is eroded, fake news, conspiracy theories everywhere, falseness all over the place.
    Programming will erode and give way to systems that are untrustworthy, extremely hackable and dangerous for society because people of a low standard will access the programming community !!!
    By 2040, people will be using entire programmed systems that are so dangerous to use because most of the people working on them wont really know how there working, the new terrorists in that age will be like the old school programmers they will know more than the dumbed down puppets working on those systems.
    The next Osama Bin Laden, is a guy who worships programming culture and will seek out the renegade path outside of the new AI path being enforced on everyone, he will wreak havoc on such systems to showcase how wrong they are.
    What should frighten americans is, that guy could be Russian or Chinese.
