- Hey Friends! Because I'm participating in the #threeriverschallenge there is no bread buying of any sort! Let's make it all together. Here is a video to help and encourage you on your bread making journey. We are making all of our bread item needs for the ENTIRE MONTH in ONE DAY. It actually only took me half the day to complete everything! Learning a new skill or finding the time to bake from scratch can seem intimidating and overwhelming; I want to show you just how easy it is and its many rewards. We are making Sandwich Loafs, Tortillas, Dinner Rolls, Bagels, Pizza Dough, English Muffins and Hamburger/Hotdog Buns!
Links to items I used:
Redmonds Real Salt: amzn.to/3XjNIDX
Pullman Loaf Pan: amzn.to/3Wm8QZ1
Measuring Cups and Spoons: amzn.to/3wvECs9
Active Dry Yeast: amzn.to/3Wqshjs
RECIPES:
Sandwich Loaf: Makes 2 Loaves
Mix 2+3/4 C of warm water with 1.5 Tablespoons of active dry yeast and 1 Tablespoon of sugar. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly. Add in 1/4 c of honey 2.5 tsp salt and 1/4 C of either butter/oil. Finally add in 5-6 cups of flour kneading for 8-10 minutes.
Place dough into greased bowl for one hour.
Divide dough in half, shape into 2 loaves and place in greased pans. Let rise one more hour until it has reached the top of the pan or just above.( it will rise more in the oven)
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes until golden brown.
Let sit for 5 minutes before removing from pans and brushing butter on the crust.
Tortillas: Makes 12 Tortillas
3 C Flour
1 TBLS Baking Powder
2 Tsp Salt
1/2 C Melted Butter
1 C Warm Water
Mix and knead for 5-8 minutes, cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Divide into 12 parts and roll into smooth balls, cover and let rest for another 15 minutes.
Flatten into disks and use either a press or roll by hand very thin. Place in a preheated skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side. Flip as soon as you see bubbles. Keep finished tortillas covered with damp towel.

The lack of all the ‘extra’ ingredients found in store bought bread products, makes a day of baking like this worth it! Plus, having the variety you shared here means a person could provide well for their family in hard times with a few simple ingredients. Great video, I’m inspired to give them all a try but bagels and english muffins are something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I also loved that you let the ‘backhoe’ operator work in the flour as well ☺️
Loved this so much!
Thank you Cheryl 🤍 that backhoe operator has my heart, he is welcome to “help” anytime 😂🤍
So true. The amount of “ingredients” in a store bought loaf is mind blowing 🤯 so much can be done with just a few pantry staples! I appreciate you watching and commenting, friend 🤍
Hey- If you're going to make some bread, you're going to need a little construction, right? LOL
My goodness...I have NEVER seen a homemaker bake that much bread (and rolls, and tortillas, etc, etc) in one day! Everything came out beautifully. Your little sous chef is adorable. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
Thank you so much! It was a lot 😂 not gonna lie, I was tired. I’m already thanking my past self every time I pull some goodies from the freezer! I’d have to agree about the sous chef being adorable but I may be biased ☺️🤍

My mom would make all our bread for the month at one time. There's 7 in my family, including a set of teenage twin boys that eat an astronomical amount of food! They have a whole chicken or 2 for a SNACK and still have 3rds or 4ths at dinner time (plus a gallon of milk each)! 😲
I’m equally impressed by the quantity of baking AND the fact you did it in black with no apron!
😂😂Didn't realize til you said but yeah, that really IS impressive!!
I would have been a hot, white mess 😂😂
😂😂😂 I’m equally surprised 🤷♀️
I thought I was so smart making pizza dough and burger buns ahead of time. Never thought of making my sandwich bread ahead of time and never bothered making bagels or English muffins from scratch. This was definitely inspiring 😊. I'm definitely a new sub
Thank you, I appreciate it’ I’m always looking for ways to make things simpler and more efficient! It just made sense to do it all at once, although now that I’m stocked up I probably won’t need to make all these things each month! 🤍
I love how you gave your son some flour to play with. Parents, mother's especially, are so busy trying to get food prepped for their family, many lose sight of how important it is for young children to be part of the process, even if it's the mom measuring out an ingredient, and giving it to the little ones to dump in a bowl. When we watch our 5-year old grandson, and 2-year old granddaughter, I always have them "help" me in the kitchen. That's the way they learn about food, and what it takes to make it, and they'll be more interested in eating it, knowing they helped make it. I involved my 4 children in cooking, when they were young, and made sure our 2 boys knew how to cook and bake, just like their sisters. I used it as part of our homeschooling, as it requires reading, math, problem solving, etc. My oldest son even won 2nd place in our 4-H baking contest, and when he applied for a $10,000 per year scholarship, he wrote, and talked in his interview, about things he's cooked and baked, and how he was responsible to plan two dinners a week, including checking to make sure we had the ingredients needed. If we didn't have everything, he would write it on a shopping list and he, and our other children, were responsible to "shop" for the ingredients needed, and to find the best price. He won the scholarship, which, along with other scholarships, helped pay tuition to a 4-year Christian, liberal Arts university, 4 miles from our house! Each of our children found ways to pay for their education at that University, with my husband and I only kicking in about $5,000 per year. We strongly feel young people appreciate their education more, and don't skip classes, if they had to help pay for it. All 4 graduated above a 4.75 gpa, and rarely missed a class!!!
All that to say, we have one chance at raising our children into responsible, God loving adults. Getting them involved in cooking and baking, is far more important than "getting things done"! To all you young mom's and dad's, your time spent with your children will fly by, faster than you thought possible. Get them involved, with you, in whatever task you're working at. Dads can, and should, take the children outside, while he works on projects. It will take longer, but the time spent together, is something they will never forget. Don't tell them to go do chores. Do chores with them, when they are young, and they will not depart from the lessons you teach, by your actions, not your words!
Lastly, it saddens me to see children involved in so many after school activities. You (no one in particular) decided to have children, so why would you keep sending them off, for others to "raise"? My advice, to young parents....only allow one club or sport per semester. The other time, you should be instilling in them, what you want them to know. Eighteen years, plus four years of college, goes.by fast! You can have your "Me Time" then. I promise, you won't be sorry! When I've seen teens who seem to have gone "off the rails", getting into trouble at school, with police, started taking illegal drugs and alcohol, etc., and the parent can't figure out what happened. I look at how little time they spent with their child, while they were growing up. If you, as parents, won't find time to spend with your family, they will look elsewhere for guidance; and it's usually another teen, who is rebelling and partying, who they'll find. If there's any hope for our Nation, families need to stick together, and train up their child, and not allow a bad influence to do your job! This is all advice, given in love. Do what you wish with it. I am encouraged at the number of families who are raising up their children, to be honest, God-loving, respectful, and hard-working adults. Keep up the great work!
THIS is the video I have needed! As a Mum of 4 and a 48 acre farm to run, complete with goats and sheep due to give birth any day, a veg garden to get up and running and various building projects I struggle keeping up with our family of 6's bread needs! I'm going to add a few items to this and double the amount you did. We only bought our new farm last year so routines are a bit... in need of a rethink haha
This is my goal!
I feel this. We have just purchased ours last Sept. Our routines are not routines yet. There is a lot to be desired and we haven't added animals yet. Our family of 5's bread needs are seriously lacking. Thanks for the encouragement!
I always say that transitional periods are always messy.
I've been living in my truck driving my truck for 5 years and it's worked with covid and all but I missed having a home so I rented one and eventhough I had a period of being a home maker...gosh I felt like Bambi on the frozen lake 😆.
8 months in and I have been able to swing trucking and a homelife.
You lady homesteaders are my heroes raising families and keeping everything going. Maybe someday I can settle down like that...I'll have to adopt cause I'm 44 😆 but I could also make a bunch of goats my babies 😆.
Economy is needing people like you ❤️.
Self-sufficiency is the only thing that will preserve us through these crazy times.
Ive always wounderd how ppl get some much land can't stand the ritch honestly
@@im_moonmann We are most definitely not rich. We are young British farmers just starting out. We bought our land in such a poor state that noone else would touch it. A year on it's getting there, still clearing up from the last owner and have a lot of fencing to do etc but we are also learning as we go along. We saved up for our farm on below minimum wage jobs, and lost out on a few farms being outbid by rich people wanting a second home. Please don't lump us in with them, it hurts a little.
Your amazing to watch !! I am 70 yrs old & for the first time in our 47 yrs of marriage am determined to begin making all our bread products . Rising expenses have made this decision for me . I spend a great deal of time in my kitchen & love it. Thank you for sharing.
Oh thank you ☺️ That’s wonderful, the kitchen is a happy place for me. It is a great way to save money! Blessings on your bread journey, and thank you for watching 🤍
I just came across your channel. This is the first of your videos I watched. I must say, I'm IMPRESSED!!! I think you achieved a lot in one day. I am really encouraged. I love to bake but I've never done this much baking in one day, and I make my own bread. Keep it up. I loved how you allowed your son to help you. You're creating memories.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the encouragement 🤍 It was a lot, I was definitely tired 😂 but I’m already thanking my past self as I pull all the goodies from the freezer! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Your son so sweet 😍😍😍❤️
@@rozanewyorklife155 Thank you ❤
Me too! My first video! The title caught my attention.
Wow! Hot dog and hamburger buns? They looked delicious!
Me three! Im much older now but due to MTHFR I need to bake everything. I have made two loaves at a time for the oven and utilized an electric bread maker as well. I may borrow a few of my grandchildren (nine) to help me on a bake day. Thank you. Many blessings ❤
In Denmark we brush our sandwichbread and bread loafs with an egg (egg wash) to get that nice shine before cooking, that will give you the same effect as you did with the butter! Very nice video, really inspiring!
I love taking a day and getting all the baking and/or meal prepping done for the week. Simple things like cooking large batches of rice and freezing them so i can make fried rice later in the week is a huge time saver. Getting it all done in a day may mean im in the kitchen for hours but I know when a busy week day rolls around and I can just throw something together quick it makes life so much easier. I'm excited to try the sandwich bread recipe you used. Mine doesn't turn out soft like yours.
Yes I think it’s a great idea to work ahead wherever possible! I hope you enjoy the bread! Thanks for watching ☺️
You are a master baker! Your family might not consume it all in a month, but give it a few years and the children will be eating double. The smell is so wonderful, I love making bread. I bake my own biscuits, And French style bread. Very often when I take a meal to someone, I include a loaf of homemade bread, too. It is always appreciated.
Oh thank you! I truly love it. It brings me joy and and makes bellies happy. It seems every day the kiddos consume more so it’s only a matter of time until it’s gone in a blink 😂 I want to get better at taking meals and baking for others! Great work ☺️ Thank you for watching and commenting! Blessings 🤍
My kids are older, between 9-14, and are all swimmers. They eat sooooo much food! A batch of dinner rolls is gone in one meal 😂 we call them our bottomless pits!
What a blessed little family with a loving mother caring for them all. Loved the video
I bet your house smells like a dream!! You’re amazing! Balancing all of that baking, babies, video, and family meals! You’ve done a wonderful job! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!!
Your little guy just eyeing the flour (and then diving in with the backhoe) cracked me up! I have 3 boys and know that all things are meant for play when it comes to cars and equipment 🤣
I am so impressed with all you got accomplished!! I love making all things bread and doing it all in one day....genius!! You did a great job and I know you'll be thanking yourself later.
LOL so true! He cracks me up too, he is a character 😂 I wasn’t sure how I’d handle having a son ( I always pictured a house full of girls) but I’m obsessed, he has my heart.
Thank you friend! I’m already thanking my past self each time I pull from the stash!
Have a blessed weekend!
Your boy is so sweet!
Came across my feed and I've been obsessed with learning how to make bread from scratch. I'm so impressed but more so when little man was welcomed to help. No matter the age, kids will remember and learn. In the end, it's all about family.
Thank you so much ❤ I try and include wherever I can, I am most definitely still learning patience and letting go of the want to have things "perfect" or done a certain way. I'm a work in progress but do my best to put my kiddos best interests first. Enjoy bread making! Blessings 🤍
@@seedandsparrowhomestead I wish I had your knowledge. I'm 53 and getting to retire in less than 2 years and homesteading has becoming my retirement dream. So I'm definitely impressed. My oldest son was my cooker and my youngest son was my baker but as they grew up I stopped. I want to get back to basics and those lost skills and knowing what ingredients is going into my food. My oldest son has never lost his cooking skills and is now teaching my 9 year old grandson to cook. I look forward to watching your past videos and seeing your future videos also. It gives me a sense of peace to know that a younger generation is dedicated to family and everything that this word encompasses.
When I was young and raising my children,I faithfully made bread twice weekly.I'm 58 now and it's only my spouse and I so the quantities are nuch smaller, and I only bake about once weekly.I always bought grain in bulk and would grind as I needed.Bread baking is an art and act of love .Anyone can learn and perfect it with practice.Bread baking is a dyeing art,but you are definitely an inspiration and I'm glad your family is blessed to have you baking such wonderful things for them.I can tell by looking at the texture and silliness of your doughs how beautiful your products will turn out.Love your videos, and the little ones cameo appearances too.Thank you.
Couldn’t agree more! I’m hoping to start milling my own grain soon! Thank you so much, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment 🤍
Love it. And love your conclusion !!!
I LOVE seeing little man helping ❤.
I can’t wait to do this!!! Exciting!!
Ok that was IMPRESSIVE!!! I was exhausted by the time you hit 11!! Lol But I bet it feels good to have that done for the month.
😂 not gonna lie, I was tired by the time it was done, but so so happy to have all those goodies to pull from. I’m already thanking my past self LOL. Thanks for watching! 🤍
@@seedandsparrowhomestead oh I bet! It's so nice having things ready and frozen.
@@thisboymomlife the best😂
When my son was that age I had to give him his own bowl of everything. Now at 8 he is a great hand kneader. Enjoy this very special time.
Aw I love that! It is so precious, I’m trying my best to soak it all up and instill a love of homemade and home skills in them! I think that’s awesome your little guy is your kneader! Good job mama! Thank for watching ☺️🤍

this made both my heart and my tummy full. thank you for the recipes and the beautiful video
My pleasure 😊 thank you ❤️
Having made a few bread items in the past, unsuccessfully mind you, I am willing to give this a try. Reminds me of making all of my foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks when my children were young and at home. But with the foods, you could do it in 2/3 hours. Being retired now, with no children at home, this would be ideal for hubby and I
Wow !! Amazing job!!!
Thank you Karrie 🤍 Appreciate you watching!!
Beautifully done❣️
Thank you, Karen! 🤍
Thank you for taking the time to bring us along on a long baking day. Brought back memories of growing up doing it like you did today. I am going to try your tortillas. I liked that they stayed soft.
Thank you for joining me! What a lovely memory to have! I hope you enjoy the tortillas ☺️
