  • Come on a journey to ancient Ephesus. This short video will guide you through what it looks like today, and what it might have looked like 2000 years ago.
    The 3D reconstructions were made by Halit Selo, a talented artist in Turkey.

    A full video on Roman Ephesus is coming soon, but for now you can watch the last one, which covers the Greek history of Ephesus, which was a city in a different location than the Roman one depicted here: • Ephesus and The Larges...

    Maybe the first amphitheater I've seen with a roof.

    • @Street-Gems
      @Street-Gems  Před 8 měsíci +6

      Yes but technically, it's a theater not amphitheater because it's half a circle. These small ones are often called Odeon or Bouleuterion. But yes they were able to build a roof because they were small enough. The Great Theater at Ephesus is way too big.

      I'm glad you liked it. A talented artist from Turkey made this, and I incorporated it into the shots of modern day.

      @@JohnVance Thanks! By the way, since we're on the topic of amphitheaters, those were the oval shaped arenas for gladiatorial fights. As far as I know, Ephesus didn't have one, which is weird because it seems like almost every major Roman city had one.

      amphi meaning double like ambidextrous means a person can use both hands as if they were right hands. (Dexter meaning 'right' (hand), Sinister meaning 'left' hand), indeed from the modern alternative meanings of the word right (correct) and sinister (well, sinister) and left meaning left over, unwanted - we can see the prejudice against left-handedness that persisted in the 20th century in the UK certainly. Fair enough .... writes a man with fair hair?

      Yeah this is a new idea I had that I want to try to bring more of. It's not always easy to find the right reconstructions and pair them with modern video shots.

    This is beautifully done, just 1 point: it's missing colour :) Roman cities were very colourful, w every frieze, statue, mural painted and we have evidence that most houses would have painted/coloured walls as well.

      My good friend. I am a Hellene. You will find Greek music in, Stranvisky's, Apollon Musagetes, in Mozart's 40th Symphony ZEUS, Debussy's Prelude ά L' Apres - midi d' un faune, (magic flute), in Syrinx, ( flute),
      Luigi della Picola's, Marsyas ( a magic flute and orchestra), Gustav Holast's The Planets (specially Mars), Saint - Saens, Le Rouet d' Omphale, Jeunesse d' Hercule , Wagner's Die Feen,(the Fairies), Der Ring des Nebelungen....There are 100 more. Wagner, said, ''if we had not remains of the hellenic music notes we could not have our music of today. '' Only in classic, enorchistrations, operas, Sympphonic poems forms, you will find the true Greek music. If you wanna make a difference you must dig into the classics. Gongrats for you inclination to such a particular and dangerous themes you explore. Platon says only your soul transcribes your creativity, and l dare to say that you must have something Greek in there, to trigger your attention
