How to do a family store - BEST parenting hack ever!! | Behavior “ticket system”! | Jordan Page

- You asked, so here it is! A complete breakdown in REAL TIME, of how we do our "family store" incentive! We end up doing this about every 6 months (never sooner than 6 months apart). After years of trial and error, it's the most consistent, effective way to motivate and reward our kids! I forgot to show our list of "experience" purchases they could buy such as a date with mom and dad, extra screen time, and more. It's just a chart we keep on the side of our fridge with the point value next to it. Hope this all helps!

Omg! I love how he asked Hutch which one he’d get! Love that brotherly love between them! Good job mama and papa! 💜 big respect!!!!
I love this. I feel like it's teaching them about how to save/spend "money". Save to get what you want.
One of my elementary teachers did this and I remember being super excited. Same thing, we earned tickets and we were able to "buy" things. We (students) were learning math as we went and we had a blast. My daughter's math teacher did this at our co-op as well and it brought me happy memories. My daughter was just as excited as I was. I need to try this at home. ❤
That's so awesome! ❤️
My daughters second grade teacher did this. She worked so hard for those tickets!
We use a treasure box and sticker system. But, THIS right here, takes things to a whole other level. I think our kids will be stoked! Thank you for sharing!! I think its time that we upgrade our family incentive program. So doable! 😃
It’s kinda strange this was done while friends were over.
They enjoyed pizza and soda with us and they had the opportunity to earn tickets so they could shop as well! ❤️
I thought the same thing. Was there really not another day or time to do this when friends weren't over?
@@cms0822 what is it with people like you? I'd love to see a CZcams channel about your life so I could probably shame you
I'm a bit on the fence...on the one hand side I like the idea on the other hand side I'm not sure if I want to teach my kids to be rewarded for being kind and to be "punished" for not conforming (the way we expect them to behave)
I have to overthink.... how i could adapt this to my personal preferences
I don't know if I would do this. External rewards tend to ruin internal motivation if you study the psychology of it. I did chores growing up because it was expected, not to get extra stuff. But awesome if it works for your family
That's what I was thinking, it's more motivating for kids in the long run if they are not working for "points" or items. But nothing actually detrimental about it and it's a cute idea!
It's once a year, I think they'll be fine. They are expected to do their share of chores, if you haven't watched the other videos i would.
It's not for doing their every day chores, it's for extra. I motivate all seven of my kids the same way. No points for feeding the dog but yes points for seeing a hedge needs clipped and doing it .
I so agree with you on this. I'm raising my son the exact same way I was raised...do your age appropriate chores, period. Also to teach responsibility and be a good adult...not think...if I want this toy I have to do this this and this but I technically don't have to have good behavior all the time. Thats what birthdays and Christmas is for, in my opinion. My son knows when to not act a fool lol for he knows my husband and I's expectations. I was also raised, which I've passed down to my son, where I could get just A look from my Mom/Dad and I knew to stop but wasn't in trouble. My son knows this as well lol. But whatever works for everyone's family, cool.
At what age would you start this?
We do something similar (on a smaller scale). If my kids go beyond their required schoolwork and chores, they can accumulate points. Every week, they can pick from a list of "motivations"-- usually something I want to do with them anyway like a family movie night, bowling, special treat at the grocery store, etc. Theyve learned that they can't do the bare minimum, otherwise they wont have enough points. I usually don't do physical items unless I notice they're low on a supply (like chalk). I love that my kids only need a gentle reminder sometimes instead of the constant nagging I used to do, but they're helping MORE
Whole lot of opinions in the comments. I thought this was pretty cool. Do I think I’m organized enough to do it? No, but we do have something similar to the gift stash because after a couple of years I’ve learned that having a few inexpensive items stashed away saves us from last minute trips to the store. Great video!
Since it’s almost Christmas, maybe the “leftover” toys could be donated to charities, hospitals, or foster kids.
Have you seen our Freebs Secret Santa Project this year? We're so excited about it! ❤️ funcheaporfree.com/freebs-secret-santa-project/
No, I didn’t. That’s awesome! A video donating some of the toys would be a great way to promote the project! 👍
I agree with you.
With this large family the kids probably want quality time alone with mom and/or dad more than any toys. However when you place toys in front of them they will of course choose the immediate satisfaction of having a toy, rather than waiting for a date with the parent. I think it would be a better idea for the kids to earn the tickets and then get to choose the activities the get to to with the parent based of the amount of ticket :) That will give them the incentive to collect tickets and also the long term joy of more time with their loved parent.
Jordan, I think you an Bubba are Incredible parents! I don't know how y'all do it, but you are Incredibly inspiring 🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for all that you share in your videos, they are very helpful! God Bless You All ♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏
Merry Christmas! ❤️
I have been wanting to implement something like this for my kids. Of course it would look much different given our lifestyle however.
Ideas for people that are on the fence with this (besides experiences) would be board games/puzzles, craft kits/things you do, subscription services, video games, outside toys...the list is endless and is based on your family and child's interest.
Great idea..loved the signature on the tickets idea.
What an awesome idea! 💡
Fantastic motivation 4 all the kiddos! 👏👏👏💞
I don't know how the kids in different age seriously react to this system it's like....
. They are rated for everything they doing... just feeling bad...
I love all the passive aggressive comments about what she should or shouldn't do . I have 6 kids and enjoy all of your ideas . Keep on doing what you're doing 👌👏
I agree, when you have so many children this kind of incentive is genius! People are so quick to judge….
It’s called jealousy of others
Jordan is a grown adult and choose to put this out and people are simply sharing their thoughts. Unless some of the rude comments were deleted I didn’t see any particular mean or nasty comments. I would really dislike for this channel to turn into a place where people can’t politely share their opinion. I’ve noticed lots of people sharing how a system like this could work for different families.
We just do allowances for chores etc. They warn have their age for completing their jobs. They have to save half and can spend the other half on whatever they want. No asking or expecting things from us. They’ve learned the value of dollar and that saving for something you really want means exercising self control and you can’t buy what you don’t have the money for.
I so enjoy hearing these out of the box ideas! Also, the keeping tally for church services to help smaller kids pay attention is brilliant! Love your videos!
❤️❤️❤️
Not sure I would do this 😬 I like the experience ones but I don’t like getting stuff
Someone in the comments suggested doing a ticket to money conversion. Something along the lines of 5 tickets=$1 then take them to the store to choose something rather than a closet full of toys. 🤗
Experiences are nice too!
I remember just a couple of years ago you were getting rid of all the toys and only keeping educational toys, Lego and active things (like trampoline, climbing things etc). That didn't last long! Ha. No judgement here though. It's nice to have some things just for fun, with no other agenda.
I didn’t notice the experiences being apart of the store. Did any of the kids choose them? What did you do for points for the experiences?!
This seems really exhausting and a lot of work!
Did any of them choose experiences? Would love to have more popular examples of those as we’re trying to live a more minimalist lifestyle.
I'd also like to know how they decided how many points the experiences would cost?
Interesting concept. This is my Christmas shopping throughout the year.😂
Do most people have the funds for this AND Christmas?
Depends on how big your Christmas buy list is lol 🎄
Lots of people pay kids to put away own dishes. Many also buy toys every time they go to store. This could be a less expensive option. We can’t afford either and kids do chores for helping out.
They have a ton of kids so a typical household wouldn't need as many options to pick from. I think doing this in June and then Christmas in obviously December would be a good balance. My 4 y.o. daughter's birthday is 3 days after Christmas so she kinda gets skipped when it comes to family buying her birthday presents and I feel so bad for her.. We try to make up for it but it's so messed up lol.
A woman whose whole persona is budgeting and making good money choices so you can enjoy your life? Yes she does have the funds for that. Follow her concepts and you will too. Her advice helped me quite a bit.
I think quality time with parents shouldn’t be conditional.
All her kids get two night a week up later with their parents so I don’t think it’s meant in that context
It's just an ADDITIONAL chance for quality time 🤦♀️
@@cassandrawells6253 do they though? Her Instagram Stories tell a different “story”….literally
Well, her kids are amazingly behaved and will more than likely be self sufficient adults 🤷♀️ it's easy to criticize isn't it?
You are just so amazing like how have I only found your page?! You are goals thankyou for sharing such brilliant ideas! Xxx
Oof. I need a motivational system that doesn't involve more stuff. Our house is small enough each additional item the kids bring home makes it feel like the straw that breaks the camel's back.
My mom used to do a store with stickers and we'd get little things. I remember earning a roll of Lisa Frank stickers and having them for most of my childhood lol
That works too! Honestly, each family will probably have a slightly different version of what works for them. This is just what works best for our family! ❤️
Screentime works well as an incentive to do chores. I'm totally with you on the too much stuff thing, having a small house myself!
But each to their own, right?
Huge fan here - just noticed there’s a typo in the thumbnail card on this vid. *incentive 😉
How many tickets are things like hotel nights and parent nights?
Finally I get to see the kids!
Good job by a mother
Seems like life is complicated enough without this kind of stuff
Interesting idea. I love the of having reserves for kids parties gifts and such.
Did is so bazaar for me…why can’t you just take them to get a toy at the store? What if they don’t like anything from the family store ?
I’m thinking a lot of this has been gifted to them already. But I agree with you. I wouldn’t want to hoard cheap Ross trinkets for a store.
I totally love this idea.
Was it not awkward (for them or you) doing it with the kids friends visiting at the same time?
They enjoyed pizza and soda with us and they had the opportunity to earn tickets so they could shop as well! ❤️
I hope those poor kids that were watching got something too. What a tease for the poor kiddos.
They enjoyed pizza and soda with us and they had the opportunity to earn tickets so they could shop as well! ❤️
I would like to introduce this to my kids this Christmas so we could start next year.. 😊 Thanks again for this idea! 😍
You’re welcome 😊
Positive reinforcement is by far the best way to get anyone to act in the way you want. This is just one example of that. For everyone complaining about the specifics, the point is give your kid some kind of award at random intervals if you like what they are doing. It generally works better than giving them a time out or yelling at them. Also you have to completely ignore the bad behavior in the little ones.
Training for Black Friday shopping starts early 😄
Oh my Gosh, I love this idea! I have implemented some of the systems and ideas you share with us, and even though I only have 2 kids they totally have worked wonders- thank you Jordan!😉🌷
You are so welcome! ❤️

Dearest Jordan, I love this idea! ♡ Do you have a tipp, how to prevent the kids "saying nice words to each other" (etc.) quickly, and not mean them, just to earn points? Do you know what I mean? Like pretending/canting..
Bc I could imagine a scenario, where my daughter says sth. nice to her brother quick and then turning to us asking "Do I get point now?".. 🤔😕🙈
Jordan this is an awesome Idea! I like that you keep the leftovers for birthdays and etc. There are so many events and happenings throughout the year. It's nice to have a stash on hand. PAGE FAMILY ROCKS!
Woah!!! That is such a good idea!!! Love this!
GENIUS IDEA!!!!
My sons teacher does this for the classroom. Toys, snacks and things like homework passes etc. It's been the most motivating thing to happen to him at school. So cool
That is awesome! ❤️
My kids school does this to at the end of every term they collect merits all term and get to spend that at the end in the merit shop
Do people really have the money to do stuff like this? Really awkward to do something like this Infront of other kids.
That's what I was thinking. She kept saying the items were "affordable" but added all together that's a lot of money! I'm happy they are able to do this but I definitely can't for my kids.
Have you seen the Christmas budget video? It was up to $500 per kid. They’re frugal but the household income would have to be way, way above average. It can be confronting when wealth and privilege is (perhaps not intentionally) presented as something the average family *could do*. I’m guessing there was at least $1000 worth of items on the table?
They enjoyed pizza and soda with us and they had the opportunity to earn tickets so they could shop as well! ❤️
What and amazing idea thank you so much for making this video
This is Genius!! I’m doing this. ❤️
I Love you family‼️
💜💜💜💜💜 I will be trying this with my son.
❤️
LOVE!!! We have six kids and have a store for homeschool. This is a great idea to have them save up their points!
I've been very good. I want to come shopping!
Hi I’m a big fan of Priya and Seeker ❤❤❤❤
How fun! I wish my parents had done this
How adorable
Omg I literally do the same with my kids!! They love it, and they’re always motivated to do things around the house without being asked..
That is awesome!
This is a great idea, but I think I would give my kids far too many points and endnup spending way too much for a store. Plus they usually prefer to save their money and choose their own thing. But great idea, I would have loved that as a kid
I love it!
You always have such great ideas! Thanks for sharing! Do you let your kids see the items as you get them throughout the year or just when you pull them out to do the store?
Wow you are so clever! 😱
Priya….like mother like daughter … she’s bargaining hard 😂😂😂good on ya girl… making ur mama proud
I especially liked when Beck was asking Hutch about which Nerf/Shooting Range gun to choose. ☺️
That was my favorite part as well!
Do you have pdf for how points are earned and what rewards besides toys they can earn
I like the concept of the tickets. Do the kids need more stuff so close to Christmas?, isn’t this teaching kids that worth is based on materialistic items. Just my opinion
So fun watching the kids pick. Good job mama 🥰👍.
How often do you “open” the store?
Its not my style but its a nice idea.
What I struggle with is the idea of time with mom and dad as a reward. For me that is sth you dont earn but have the right to as a child. Love and attention should be unconditionally. And I am very sure it is in your house, too. I just think it might undermine the value to make it a reward. Its nothing you can treat into 6, 8 oder x Nerf Guns. I hope it is understandable what I am trying to say. I am no native speaker.
This would be for extra special things. Like a night away at a nice hotel. ❤️
This is genius. Rock on and keep up the great work you do!
❤️❤️❤️
Priya is so stylish!
When we were kids we would buy things at yard sales and clearance all through the year for each other gifts 🧡 there were five of us
That's so great! ❤️
Jordan!!! Tell me, what are the rules in your house as far as the kids sharing their toys with one another? When I only had a few younger kids, our rule was everything is for everyone to play with. But now that my oldest are 9 and 7, they want stuff that's just theirs and I don't blame them, they should be able to have their own stuff. But then the younger ones want to play with their stuff and vice versa and a part of me feels like they should share as long as the person they're lending it to takes proper care of it, but the other part of me says it should be up to them to decide if they're comfortable sharing it. What are your thoughts and how is it in your home?
It's good in general but I couldn't do it. To be well behaved all the time, do chores ECT would be tough. It's good to teach kids rules and jobs ECT. But having my child think about how many tickets they can have or miss out on everyday for a year would be alot. And if one gets more than the other, feel like a punishment or disappointed. My oldest is ASD level and this would not end well on my house. Both my boys get $5 in their bank account each wk weather or not a good or bad wk.
Hi Jordan! I love all your videos!! I have son about your twins ages. And I have been following your videos since he was born and they have helped alot. I do have question, I see the award system and behavior ect for the older kids. How do you deal with behavior, lash outs, ect for the little ones including the twins? How do you stay patience and calm when dealing with the twins testing your boundaries? Please and thank you I would really love your advice.
You guys are great at managing all your kiddos! I have a hard time with my 3!
You've got this! ❤️
So great !!! Always love your ideas and the way you create your family projects and energy! Love to you all!!
Thank you so much! ❤️
What a GREAT IDEA!!! So many lessons learned!!! 😍
Wow! How do you have time to do all this
I like this concept except I would probably take them to a shop and redeem it there rather than I buy things. I know you said you gift them later but what if you get stuck with items that may not be suitable.
A fun idea! I remember school did something similar on a smaller scale, weekly. I do like the experiences idea a lot!!
Brilliant
This is an awesome idea!! Ty for sharing it!!
Great idea. I would probably do this in the summer rather than so close to Christmas.
It's good to have you back and posting. This is a good system that surely motivates kids to keep up the good work either in chores or behaviour
It makes a big difference! ❤️
@@jordanpagecompany Am sure it does. I will definitely be using it for my future kids
Love this, keeps the kids motivated and excited to be rewarded 🥰
Yes!! ❤️
How fun!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. Happy holidays! 😊
I’m so glad that your back, I missed your videos. You were my first CZcamsr that I watched. I was hooked after that 😂.
So happy to be back! ❤️
I have a similar thing for myself and concert stubs. You can get a shadow box photo frame with a slot in the top. Then drop the tickets in. Kids could decorate the glass part with stickers etc to make it their own and since they are frames you can put high enough on the wall they can easily reach
How do you if the kids want a specific item? Can they request it to be added into the store? Or do you do a different system?
Can’t believe that the Baby Yoda didn’t get picked! Would have been my first choice lol!
best idea ever
This was so fun to watch! Loved it!
Love it Jordan!!!! Thanks for the video Jordan!!!!! I am in school but am going to steal your clipboard idea and it will be mandatory for my kids in order for screen time and friends? My question is how do you do clipboards when your kids are at school all day and involved with extra curricular activities?
You really outdid yourself with this one! I love this idea! My teacher used to do a similar thing and I remember how exited it used to make us as kids
I have so many questions! How do you determine how many points they deserve for each thing?
We did this last year to motivate our son through online Kindergarten (which was tough for 5-year olds!) We'd set up a small store every 2 weeks. My husband based it on the "Merit Store" they had when he was at summer camp and a camp counselor. Just wondering why you chose December to do it? With Christmas coming there are lots of gifts coming soon in our house so there are months that are less toy-filled haha! Thanks for the video I think it's a great idea!
She said they’d accumulated a lot of tickets and they’re going on a trip instead of giving gifts this year.
She said they’d accumulated a lot of tickets and they’re going on a trip instead of giving gifts this year.
She said they’d accumulated a lot of tickets and they’re going on a trip instead of giving gifts this year.
would I've known about that ten years ago it would have helped me so much ;___; now my children are 15 and 18... and the big one left home a few days ago and moved to her very first own appartment. X'D
I love this idea. I used to do something similar to keep my kids reading and logging their books but instead of tickets everytime they hit predetermined levels of reading logged they would get to choose a prize by drawing a number that corresponded with said prize (all the prizes would be things they may have seen while we were out or talked about). They determined how fast they would get prizes and to keep them honest I had to see them reading and I would be there when it was time to log their books. If they read at school that was just additional reading and wouldn't count unless the teacher signed off on it. It didn't really work with my teenager as much he didn't feel it was worth it. Most of the things he wants are high end electronics, cash, hanging out with friends or driving our vehicle. He will be leaving for college end of this school year and would love to see a way I could make this work on older kids. If anyone has ideas I would love to hear them. As always Jordan thanks for sharing.
We actually do this weekly for our kids. But our prizes do include treats, snacks, toys, etc. we have the ones they can earn like a pedicure from mom cause I do nails, or a day at the pool or a weekend night at a motel etc. just printed and laminated on paper.
These are great ideas and affordable. I did a little spa day at my home with my nieces they loved it. Going out for ice cream or pre-Covid taking them to a buffet. I love hearing others ideas.
@@moomoopo I went with simple, affordable, etc. I’m the summer we have snow cones as an option, or driving to the lake to throw rocks in the water. Or bigger ones of camping, or hiking, side by side ride etc. we’re on a very tight budget so I’ve really tried to scale it down. We did it all this summer and I put it away thinking I would only allow it for summer. But our warm fuzzies (pompoms) aren’t working. So I’m going back to this.
Sorry if I missed this, what do you do for the littles?
With the younger kids I find instant gratification works better. “Good job doing ____. Here’s a starburst!” Kind of a thing. ❤️
We did something similar (much smaller scale) for Easter. The tickets were Easter eggs and toys were a variety of things we gathered for their baskets anyway. They had a lot of fun.
That's so fun!
Jordan, Just a heads up, on the thumbnail of your video it reads “Inventive” instead of “Incentive”.
