For anyone that doesn't know, mindfulness isn't just used in art, it's also used a lot in understanding human behavior in psychology experiments. As someone who is currently studying psychology, there is a lot of benefits to mindfulness in children and adults. There are quite a few studies out there, that state that mindfulness decreases levels of anxiety and depression.

It is so interesting that just through Marina being present with the people sitting across from her they felt loved by her. I think that people find it very intense to be truely seen by others, we're so used to living past each other wothout really taking in the other person, it makes sense to me that people would feel emotional, aspecially those that don't feel seen or heard.

Once in a camp we did that exercise. You sat in front of another camper you didn't know in silence for a hole minute.
I cried she cried to. At the end she just told me "you will be okay" as she smiled. I've never felt so naked and vulnerable. In that minute she understood what I was feeling and what I needed to hear.
Is an experience beyond what I can explain so I recommend you do it at least once. Gives another perspective in human interactions.

the first performance you told felt timeless because it somehow mirrored social media and celebs today. like when Marina didn't react to any aggression done towards her, the aggressor probably only saw her as an icon/image/symbol not a human. same like people on social media who are so comfortable throwing hate to public figures that they saw on TV because to them, these celebs doesn't feel like a human being because they don't know the celeb personally. and usually haters would never say shit they said online to the public figures irl because in that moment, they understand that the celebs infront of them is actually a human with feelings. again it was mirrored like how the aggressor of Marina's performance immediately scattered once the show is done. they saw her as a human again at that moment

Everytime a guy shouts, like a male principal or a male prefect EVERYONE would stop and listen, everyone would obey, but when it is a female prefect, everyone would not listen, the boys especially would laugh and mock the female prefect. So in a way i guess the guy WOULD be tormented but most probably by men themselves, but it depends on what kind of people you are and what kind of people you meet, if your an asian guy meeting an asian girl or etc that has impact on your treatment.

I think Rythm 0 didn't turn people into aggressors, we all have demons and morbid thoughts but all actions are withheld because of "social pain". It must have felt like an urge when faced with the opportunity to do anything without consequence. it was the only opportunity and some, against all prior judgment, tried to explore a side of humanity that is normally socially condemned.
It was an interesting experiment and all interpretations were unique because there isn't one way to explain humanity

Shout out to fellow Serb Marina 😌🙏🇷🇸
Also I feel like performance art attracts some weirdos fr 🥴 she's a legend for doing this incredible experiment
Also Yugoslavia was a communist government (though it was displayed as socialist) of collective Balkan (mostly Slavic) countries (very complex but thank you to Stephanie for doing her research to touch upon this)
Tbh, having Serbian parents and family who have lived through wars. It's difficult to listen to stories let alone to be able to watch and create performances regarding it. Even listening to this video, I'm on edge especially because her performances are very driven by personal/political experiences. People always shit on Serbs, Yugoslavia and our history so anyone who covers stories of our people makes me brace for any negative comments that night come with it.
Marina is an incredible person for constantly exposing herself to criticism and hate from strangers let alone our own people. She has pushed the limits of humanity's norms, ideals, values, morals. She truly is incredible and I am proud that she wears our heritage proud and as an inspiration for her art.

Marina is still thriving, she is really commited to her art still. Some are really sick and twisted but that is her way of showing her artistry, and that is why I respect her so much. Btw I am Serbian too and you rearly hear about Balkan people, the one who everyone knows is Nikola Tesla, but the rest are overlooked. I am glad you made this video, thank you so much.🥰

Marina abromavic is one of the artists i learned about in college. Her art is interactive not only with her work but the artist herself. Her most famous piece is the artist is present, which is just her sitting in a chair and you sitting across from her. Over time they removed the table that use to be with the installation between the chairs. The viewer can sit for however long they wish. And some even cry although no speaking is done. Just looking at her eyes.

This artist is a true masochist. You keep saying “insane.” You couldn’t be more correct. Her “art” comes from ultimate self-hatred, but an innate desire to help others. She may be brilliant and push the limits that others are not willing to do. If she knew God, she would truly have it all.

I love that the guys haven't heard of her, clearly, and aren't familiar with her work; it really is fun seeing how appalled and like, demanding people become about it; even decades after the Rhythm 0 performance was done, people's reaction to it still betrays the same emotions; jarring, shocking, even angering; "Why would someone subject themselves to that?? What's the purpose of it??" I love how much power her work has, even back to her first ever performances.
