  • If you are using turn signals on your Lifan powered build, the TB422 harness from Trail Buddy is a popular option. In this video, we go from opening the package to putting the harness on a bike and explain the wiring functions along the way.

    So I thought I heard that you live in Indiana? I'm in Bloomington and if so that's awesome. I've watched a lot of wiring videos but you by far take the time and don't rush thru it and I'm new to this stuff and it's greatly appreciated. So keep the videos coming because you know your stuff and it's not a stressful thing to wire a bike up when you have a good coach. Keep 2 wheels down Mike.

    I am re-watching because I’m using a Lifan-125 engine in my ct70. Other than the bulbs in headlight & taillight (no turning signals) do I need to put new ends on taillight/headlight pigtails to fit on the trail buddy harness for 12 volt? Will the stock 6v horn still work and will I need to change the end to plug into the harness? And what about the rectifier do i need a 12 volt rectifier? Thanks so much for your wealth of knowledge on these it’s been very helpful.

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  Před 3 lety

      The taillight wires should have the correct wire ends. The headlight should be plug n play also, but depending on the switch you’re using, there may be a wire or two that will need the ends changed.
      The 6v horn works great with 12v, keep it. It should plug directly in.
      You will need a 12v regulator.

    Hi Mike, i went to replace the battery in my son's 1991 Honda CT70 and found a huge mouse nest underneath. I am trying to clean it out and in the process found 2 wires that were broken off from who knows where. One is green with a yellow stripe and the other is black they are taped together. Would you know where they come from? TY

      @@davidkobelka7219 I’m not a fan of the stators with two yellows. You can try plugging a yellow into each of the yellow and white of the harness. Start the bike and measure voltage at the battery. If it’s above 13v, you’re good to go. Most of the time, with two yellows, it goes like this:
      Pick one of the yellows, doesn’t matter which one, and connect it to ground. Take the other yellow and connect it to both the yellow and the white in the harness. Hopefully, this will work for you.

      The harness has a white plug with 4 wires (red, black, green & black/white). This is where a key switch would plug in. If you’re not using a switch, you somehow need to connect the red wire and the black wire in that 4 wire plug.

    So Mike, aside from the harness also needed is 12v Coil, flasher ,DC CDI, regulator, lite bulbs... but is their a work around using the existing 6v wiring system with the Lifan 125 engine??Thanks

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  Před 3 lety

      Bill, you’ll get a coil and CDI when you purchase a Lifan engine, those parts are part of the kit. You will need to purchase a regulator, if you’re running lights. Same with flasher, if you’re running signals.
      I’m sure there is a way to use the original harness, but I’ve never attempted to use one. In my mind, the amount of time it would take to rework the original harness with wiring ends that will plug into the Lifan engine and it’s parts.......it’s just way easier and quicker to install a new harness that is designed to go with the engine.
