    I use a pod to go through a Power Amp and 412. It does sound pretty good, but there is always a high-end fizz that's pretty annoying. I also have a brand new v30 in the top of my cab, so I'm sure that isn't helping. Even with an 8k high cut. Anything more than that completely kills your top end. I've had it for about a year and just recently was able to dial in a tone im happy with. I also didn't really understand parameters and eqs aside from the amp eq. Also, I wish they'd update it more often. I think we've had 1 since it was released. Never felt limited with DSP.

  • @absolutewarband
    @absolutewarband Před rokem +2

    I have both. The MX5 kills the pod go as far as "real amp sound and feel" The pod has less bottom girth and higher top end fizz. Also its takes some time getting used to the MX5 as far as getting tones.Where as the pod go is pretty much like its title. I actually bought some tone's from Choptones to get the initial concept (as they use EQ's to really shape the tone not all know how to do this especially beginners) from there the headrush is absolutely killer. I play live with it (well the pedalboard version) as lugging around my tube amp and stack just doesn't do it anymore for me. a couple of FRFR's and the headrush...badass brutality!

    The pod go has some fizz in the high end which doesnt appeal to my ear.
    Although it's really old by know and not really a multieffect unit i love the high gain sounds of the dv mark multiamp. You just have to treat it like a Real amp with a guitar cab and not a frfr cab. So i love the blended sounds of the multiamp with the mx5 in a Mix.

  • @matthewulrich5445
    @matthewulrich5445 Před rokem

    Oh they are so close. Some of the pod tones sit in the mix a little nicer, but the mx5 sounds deeper in the low end. It’s really too close for me to really pick it apart though because just when I’m liking the pod more it switches to the mx5 and I hear something that stands out a little more. I don’t think anyone could go wrong with either unit. The pod has 1 up in the switching department with more switches and dedicated bank up/down switches.

      @viniciusdesouza4889 Před 2 lety +1

      You probably already know it (because 5 months lol) but you can do it nice and smooth with the snapshots, create a "Clean" snapshot and then you assign a 2nd to change some parameters on the amp (most likely just the gain 😂), you have 4 snapshots to change whatever parameters you want in any blocks you want (I don't remember how many per snapshot, but it's more than you'll ever need), you can go from clean to gain to lead to crazy distortion in the same preset, it's super flexible for live use...

I haven't tried the 4 cable method on my MT15 yet, so cannot comment on that, or used it for time based efforts in the loop. My biggest complaint is that the gate on the input is not very easily switched off. Any patch created is going to have the input gate enabled by default. It's easy to forget about it altogether. So if you were to make a patch for using it for boost or distortion, delay, chorus or reverb, and want to be able to manipulate feedback, remember that there is a default gate on the input.

    I own both and I can say that I like the Pod Go better for 2 reasons...
    1 - With the Pod Go, I can edit on my PC and not be hunched over a unit trying to dial in my sound. Touch screens are nice to have, but for the size of the screen, it's not worth it.

      Just put a low pass filter. Necessary for digital amps. Especially older ones

  • @jaciroscar

    Most of the tone comes from the cab modeling / IR. If you using an external IR, your leaving out the most important part of these units...

      I would say it's better for him to use an external ir because they're being compared through the same cab. So you get to hear the exact differences in the amp sounds. Especially useful comparison if the two units have the same amps modeled. Since both of these units can load 3rd part ir's to be used live I think it makes it a better comparison. If one unit let you load ir's and the other didn't I would agree with you though. I don't think anyone would use the stock ir packs with these units anyway.

      @@saintlotus93 I'm afraid they'd respond differently with different IR, so using only 1 IR for both of them tell us almost nothing. One may sound better with this IR but may be worse with another IR.

    The amount of discontinued products Line 6 has on their site scared me off from buying Pod Go. Plus the DSP limitation. Not sure of the life span of Pod Go considering it’s a couple years old. I wonder if they support all the old products still?

    Mx5 is nice, but it’s noise gate is not that well implemented. You have only 2 options: 1.no sustain 2. a lot of noise

    • @BlackSun3Tube
      @BlackSun3Tube Před 2 lety +2

      Not at all. According to others videos, you can set it 2 ways, via the "input" setup and via a noisegate pedal ...

    The big problem with the DSP limitations you've found in the Pod Go is that you've chosen the most DSP-consuming amp to start with! The VH4 lead eats almost 44% of the dsp, while choosing the Revv model, for example, would give you 8% dsp more...

    • @literalghost929
      @literalghost929 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, sadly, there's a correlation with quality/favorites & DSP. What you tend to prefer; what sounds bests, costs lots of DSP. So of course, you can choose a lesser amp or effect, but then if you're not using the best the Go has to offer..........!

    • @DruEllz
      @DruEllz Před rokem +1

      I'm trying to decide which unit to buy and having no external software is exactly why the MX5 is top of my shortlist as I don't have any kind of computer. It's optimised to be a complete standalone.

  • @ReelDealOutdoorsTV

    I've got both and it's hard because there's tradeoffs on each. I like the sounds of the MX5 better. To me it sounds more natural for the most part... to my ears at least. And I prefer the expanded DSP. But it's so small. I like having all of the switches and the full size pedal. On the other hand, I personally think the Pod Go is more of a pain to navigate. The touchscreen is really what sold me on the MX5. It's so much quicker to create a patch without having to push this button, or press these 2 buttons together, or turn this knob or that one. But then I like all of the crazy amp and effects options on the Pod... really hoping for more updates on the MX5 to bring it up to speed. So it's hard to choose a favorite, but if you twisted my arm I'd probably go with MX5 for ease of use, and sound quality...
