    What a great video. I love how she started to collapse in front of the other concubines and said Sulieman, just as she did when she first attracted his attention many years ago. Inserting the song she used to sing and having Sulieman recite her poem was a wonderful way to end it.

    “Throne of my lonely niche, my wealth, my love, my moonlight,
    My most sincere friend, my confidant, my very existence, my Sultana, my one and only love.
    The most beautiful among the beautiful.
    My springtime, my merry faced love, my daytime, my sweetheart, laughing leaf,
    My plant, my sweet, my rose, the one only who does not distress me in this world.
    My Istanbul, my Caraman, the Earth of my Anatolia,

      God!!! These words. Suleiman and Hurrem's deep and intense love can be gauged by these beautiful words. What a love this man had for a woman(and vice versa)💕. It's unbelievable, emotional and breathtaking.
      So many people wrote immeasurable canards about Hurrem. For a very long time, Hurrem was presented just as an evil, unscrupulous woman in Europe and elsewhere but later on these poems were the reason-people understood her true existence.
      A great emperor who loved a woman so passionately couldn't be an evil controlling witch. She had her vices, surely but one thing is clear- She must have been very talented and she must have given/done something so extraordinary for His majesty that he became so devoted to her. Atleast, this is what I thought.
      Suleiman immortalised Hurrem through his words🤍

    Hurrem Sultan lived during an age in which the thought of a woman holding power and influencing court decisions was as foreign as it was improbable and yet she did it. She broke the glass ceiling that had held back previous generations of Sultanas to a set level of power and became the first Haseki Sultan equal in station to the Imperial Queen Mother-Valide Sultan- during the lifetime of her Husband and not afterwards.
    This in its entirety is enough render anyone speechless at the sheer magnitude of what she accomplished. I'm not saying she was perfect. She sinned-as do we all. She made questionable decisions that were probably not morally upright-or moral in any way. She would not hesitate to use a questionable means to achieve and end and she as likely as not justified herself and her methods to soothe her conscience. She was Human, and she experienced human emotions that would sometimes blind her. She was devoted to her children to a fault and would pull out all the stops to secure her their future-sometimes even at the cost of their happiness- as we saw with Mihrimah Sultan's wedding to Rustem Pasha.
    All in all-and because post is getting much longer than i had expected- Hurrem Sultan was a woman who had as much Light in her as Darkness, as many flaws as she had strengths and sometimes the devil in her would overpower the angel (Firuze Hatun can attest to that i think). She wasn't always entirely right or wrong but she was always herself-and that's what makes me love the complex character in the tv series much more than i could ever love the actual historical figure. @@ChickenSoup736 And now to Hafsa's origin. Long time ago there was a legend that she was daughter of Crimean Khan- Menli Giray. But this is rejected because it's impossible. Why? I'll explain in short.
      Menli Giray was muslim, so that means she would be also muslim by birth. That means, she couldn't even enter the harem. Dinasty's wouldn't just send their family member's to become someone's concubine. There were of course cases when other Dinasty princess married the sultan but after Mehmed the Conquerior, marriage was forbidden for eveybody. And also this marrieges mostly weren't consumated. She became Selim's consort when he still was the Prince and had allready all of their childern, so even if marriage was allowed for the SULTAN, Selim Yavuz was still the Prince and Princes weren't allowed to marry at all. And Selim wasn't supposed to ascend the Throne. So, long story short: Crimean Khan would not send his daughter to be the concubine of Prince who isn't supposed to ascend the Throne.
      There is of course possibility that she was a servant of crimean Khan and that he gifted her to the Ottoman's as the present.

    1. Evil or not, one thing for sure about Hurrem is that she loves Suleiman more than anybody does as Suleiman reigns supreme over her heart. Call her whatever you like, a witch etc., but her pure love for Suleiman can defeat anything. (an episode on Season 2)
    2. The reason why Hurrem was so wanted and cherished among the commoners was she never forgot her roots. She always remembered her struggle, where she came from, and she learnt from her mistakes. She fought all along to survive and never gave up. (Episode 93 around October 2021)
    3. Hurrem never showed her sadness to her children even if she was always suffering deep inside. She did not say any bad words, foul language etc., to her children. She did not allow herself to just cry. (Hurrem Returns to the Palace - video clip)
    4. The phrase "well behaved women rarely make history" applies so strongly to her. We'll never truly know what she did and didn't have a hand in with regards to deaths and assassinations, but people who want to scream about how evil she is seem to view the world as black and white. People are complicated. We can love intensely, exhibit kindness and gentleness, but also have great capacity for violence, anger, and jealousy. Say what you will about her defiance and plotting, but she was clearly a survivor, and a person of strong character. (c)

      His wife lived 2 more years & a week or 2 before she passed (she almost made it to 93 years young), she called me & told me she was very tired, she was writing her Congressmen to complain to him for what was happening in her home state of California USA.
      I told her to get more rest, now she has a new form, & is with her beloved❣
      She always took such good care of her husband & when he passed, she lost her loved companion & I believe she wanted to go with him. It took a bit longer than she expected.
      She was buried on top of where he was buried. She had sent me a photo of where her beloved was buried & told me she would be buried with him when it's her time.
      True love endures to our passing from this flesh into another form.

    It’s ten times harder to see Hurrem’s death and Suleiman’s suffering, knowing that their love was just as great in real history. 😢
    👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
    “On April 15, 1558, the new French ambassador to Istanbul, Jean de la Vigne, sent a letter to a colleague reporting that “La Assaqui” (the Haseki) had died early that morning. So great was the sultan’s grief that he aged greatly. “They say that the day before she died,” wrote de la Vigne, “he promised her and swore by the soul of his father Selim that he would never approach another woman.“
    “After the death of his wife, Suleiman took care of Hurrem 's memory and did not want his wife's body to stay away from him, just as he did not love another woman after her. He had a beautiful mausoleum built for her right next to the place he reserved for his own tomb in Süleymaniye Complex. He appointed guards and hafiz-i kurras at Hurrem Sultan's tomb . For centuries, the Quran was read to the soul of this benevolent sultan twenty- four hours a day. According to the documents in the Prime Ministry Archive, the number of people assigned to this tomb in turn was one hundred and thirty-eight people. Considering that they are paid a high wage of three hundred and fifty akçe per day , it is better understood how much Kanunî loved Hurrem.
    Sultan Süleyman also continued to give charity for her soul for years. For example , in 968 Hijri , he ordered the Egyptian Governorship to send 3,000 gold coins from the Egyptian treasury to the Ulema and poor of Mecca and Medina.”
    “It is said that Suleyman was so sad after death of his beloved, that he did not regain happiness for the rest of his life and pined away for his wife.”
    Legendary Love ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

    I think that it's time for me to pay my respects to Hurrem sultan.
    When she was first brought to Constantinople, Hurrem started from the very bottom of the packing order and had almost everyone against her. And, honestly, who could blame them at the time; The harem has some rules, some organisation, some discipline that's in play for decades. And Hurrem shakes it upside down. Her impulsive nature, her inability/reluctance to follow the rules and her domineering attitude made it impossible for anyone to work with her.
    Only her love for Suleiman, her competent allies such as sumbul aga and Nigar khalfa and Hatice sultan's (Hurrem's only friend and ally at the beginning) occasional help kept Hurrem in play. She had to either adapt and survived or be destroyed like so many would be sultans before her. And she did learn. She secured Suleiman's love with her unmovable loyalty, no matter how much he disrespected or hurt her. She crushed Mahidevran. She defanged Valide Hafsa and her daughters and exploited Ibrahim's own arrogance and ambition to bring him to his knees. She did the same with Mustafa's stubbornness and impulsivity. Overall she steadily and methodically, removed all and any sort of threat for her or her children.
    Truth be told, I never agreed with everything she had done. Or with the way she handed all matters. I still think that she should have let Hatice discover Ibrahim's infidelity on her own. Or at least send her leads that wouldn't connect Hurrem to the information. That way Hatice wouldn't be able to blame Hurrem, she would have divorced Ibrahim, Hurrem could suggest for another grand vizier and she wouldn't have to worry about a such a persistent and annoying foe like Hatice.
    And I still think that she should have stopped Selim and Bayazid quarrel right from the start. To make sure that they always remember that they're brothers and that they must support and love eachother instead of ruining one of the purest relationships in human nature with jealousy and insecurity.
    However, as much as I was at times against her methods, as much as I at times criticized her for her actions, I always respected her. Her strength, her determination, her intelligence, her awareness of both domestic and external affairs, her love, her humility. She had everything that a proper Queen-in my book at least- must have. She planted the foundation of a new age, the sultanate of women. And that alone is remarkable. Sadly, she passed away before she could take care of the succession or crush that snake Nurbanu.
    Farewell, Hurrem the fiery. May you find peace and may you be able to set things right on the accounts you left unfinished in the time before.

    This scene of Hurrem Sultans death and Suleyman reciting her poem it is so beautiful and sad. You feel their great love but also great pain. Then when he is leaving to war after her death and in the hallway he hears ….Sultan Suleyman It was so haunting and heartbreaking, one of the most haunting moments. It gives you chills and brings you back to the moment they met. Looking at the Sultan and actually speaking where not permitted… but she was not going to allow anyone to stop or change her destiny again. Just reminds me of how sometimes we stop ourselves from doing what our heart tells us. If she hadn’t spoken up she would of never lived her path and destiny of being the greatest and bravest Sultana . The Sultana of Sultanas…….Haseki Hurrem Sultan…..

    @pialhiannaapostol8384 Před 2 lety +18

    Hurrem Sultan (1502-1558), also known as Roxelana in Europe, was a Russian captive taken to Istanbul to become a concubine for Sultan Suleiman (r.1520-1566). She quickly rose through the ranks of the Imperial household, with Suleiman changing harem protocol by marrying her (1534) and allowing her and their son to stay in the Imperial capital instead of a province, as was customary. An ambassador present in Istanbul noted that their wedding was an ‘extraordinary event, one absolutely unprecedented in the history of Sultans’. Hurrem’s marriage to Suleiman and birthing of five sons secured her role as the first haseki in Ottoman history. Her strong connection and intimacy with Suleiman gave her access to power that no other Imperial woman had previously enjoyed.

    • @pialhiannaapostol8384
      @pialhiannaapostol8384 Před 2 lety +4

      #2 Hurrem used her political power within the Imperial court to advocate for a change of Grand Vizier to her son-in-law, and, in turn, to gain greater influence. Hurrem strategically married her daughter, Mihrimah (d.1578), to Rustem (d.1561) who was the governor of Diyarbekir. Through Hurrem’s plotting, he became Grand Vizier to Suleiman (1544-1553 and 1555-1561), with his predecessor, Hadim Suleiman Pasha, being executed (1544). While Rustem benefitted from Mihrimah and Hurrem’s relationship with Suleiman, as he became the highest Vizier in the Imperial court, Hurrem was able to use this strategic marriage to create an alliance with Rustem, gaining constant access to information about the empire, and the opportunity to assert her influence over the entirety of the Imperial court. Ambassador Navagero (d.1565) commented that there had ‘never been in the history of Ottoman house a lady that held more authority’, highlighting Hurrem’s political power despite being secluded to the harem.

    • @pialhiannaapostol8384
      @pialhiannaapostol8384 Před 2 lety +3

      #3. Hurrem’s influence in the Imperial court and relationship with Suleiman was heavily criticised by contemporaries throughout Europe and within the empire. Hurrem was demonised in diplomatic documents, literature, and European theatre in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A widely circulated political pamphlet by Nicolas de Moffan, ‘A Cruell Fact of Soltan Solyman’ (1555) popularised the story of Suleiman’s first born son Mustafa’s execution and Hurrem’s involvement, and it was translated into multiple languages. He accused her of being ‘crafty’, ‘wicked’ and ‘devilish’ for ‘corrupting the Kyng’s mynd’ by using ‘certayne sorceries’. Hurrem’s ‘devilish’ influence upon Suleiman became the subject of several dramas, including Gabriel Bounin’s La Soltane performed in 1560 and published in 1561. The plot revolved around Rose (Hurrem) and Rustem’s scheme to have Mustafa executed by leading Suleiman to believe that he was trying to overthrow the Sultanate. Hurrem was widely condemned for her role in Mustafa’s death as his execution worked favourably for her as her son, Selim II (d.1574) became the first choice of heir to the Sultanate, which guaranteed Hurrem’s continued influence throughout the empire.

    • @pialhiannaapostol8384
      @pialhiannaapostol8384 Před 2 lety +3

      #4 Despite the extent of contemporary criticism, the role Hurrem played as haseki allowed subsequent Imperial women to also exercise political power in influencing the Imperial court. Haseki was developed into the role of valide upon the haseki’s son being crowned Sultan. Although Hurrem never took this role for herself, as she died before Selim II could ascend to the throne, the precedent she set for Imperial women in politics allowed Nurbanu to create the role of valide to claim power.

    The most powerful haseki sultana, a strong valide sultan, the most influential woman of the ottoman empire that started her own legacy on her own. Every woman must have been jealous, especially mahidevran back then. Everyone dreamed to live her life. Future sultanas kept her legacy and continued with it. No one forgot her. No one forgets her. No one will forget her. We remember her with the best words and value her. In the pages of true history, she's the most influential sultana of ottoman empire that brought power to women and finally raised the status of consorts. The love and passion to her husband, devotion to children , each one specifically. Her daughter became valide sultan and it was probably agreed long before she passes, an agreement between her, Suleiman, Selim and mihrimah to promote mihrimah into her position of valide sultan.
