Notice how luz long immediately comes to congratulate jesse owens after his jump!!!! priceless
Yes, very sad he had to perish in the war. Glad Jesse did fulfill Luz's wishes of asking Jesse to see his son Karl after the war.
I love how the other men look like they’re dying and he looks so effortless as he glides right past them lol
The american that got second in the 200 meters was Mack Robinson Jackie Robinson's older brother .
El Tigre
Mack got very little recognition for his accomplishment when he got home. He was overshadowed by Jesse in the Olympics and later overshadowed by his little brother who became a hero to millions.
I was lucky enough to meet him once at the very first Jackie Robinson night at Dodger Stadium in 1977. He was a very kind and generous man. He gave me a ball that he and members of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers had signed. I still have it.
@@imdontaisbrokeheadphones6741 What kind of question is that? That's terrible!
So he's affiliated with 2 of the biggest black sport pioneers in US history? Haha wow, that's awesome
Jesse Owens transcends athletics a true hero and a credit to his race the human race
Robert Brown well the human race didn’t give af about him even after this😔
There's no such thing as a "human race". A race is a SUBSET of humans, based on particular ancestry. It's like saying "There's only of breed of dog, the Canine breed". No, there are Canines, and there are breeds of Canines. Pretending every dog is the same breed is as silly as pretending everyone is the same race.
One of my favorite sports moments in history
In India we had an entire Literature chapter about Jesse Owens victory at the Berlin Olympics from his own personal perspective
@@abhikdixit2066 That's an extract from My greatest Olympic prize of class 10 icse in class 8 icse textbook
It’s so sad that Germany gave him more love than his own country.
True. Americans (and some similar countries) were completely crazy. Demons. Hurting others for no real reason.
Obviously they would, they were hosting the Olympics with the world watching. That statement has always been so dumb
although the ridiculous American dream has a hard time admitting it, if that's what happened to Jessie upon his return.
@@bigpapi6688that doesn’t explain why they were nice to him while the public wasn’t watching though, as he later recalled
Legend
TheIrishMan theres a movie about this and by the eay the whiye guy he shook hands with was kill for treason in WW2
Jesse Owens was INCREDIBLE.... He didn't even look like he wasn't just running. He looked like he was floating on air...
totally, and then Usain Bolt came into the world 50 years later after this historic moment
honestly cant even believe they held the Olympics in Germany during all of this.... thank you Jesse Owens
Now they are holding the world cup in Qatar ! Some things never change !
@@geraldhills41 and the next in USA, things never changing at all, criminal nations like USA,Russia , China getting chances smh
The greatest moment here was when that german helped him :D
His name was Carl lutz long and he was a surprisingly cool guy. Owens saw him as a friend.
@@Sai4651 i am here because of a story jesse Owens wrote about luz named "my greatest Olympic prize' saying this friendship he formed here was more precious than any of the gold medals he won 😃😃
Imagine Jesse Owens now with the proper training and new techniques they have now , feel like he would be a unstoppable machine
i just love the moment when they pan the camera om Hitler’s face😂😂
This footage is amazing. I'm related to the Dutch guy who won bronze behind Owens in the 100 and 200m. It's part of a great historical sporting achievement.
The footage is all from Leni Riefenstahl's OLYMPIA, possibly the best sports documentary ever made. A lot of the camera techniques you see in any sporting event were developed by Riefenstahl as she prepared to film these Olympic games.
We all need a friend like luz long in our life
Incredible that we got these footage. The GOAT. The pioneer. Amazing running form for the old days. In the 100 you could see everyone struggling and super tight. Jesse had the instinct and stayed relaxed, destroying everyone.
That friendship with Luz Long changed the course of the event 😍
What an inspirational person. I wish I could just have a glimpse into the mind of this man during the preparation that brought him to winning this tournament.
I'm here because I needed to see what Bill Burr was talking about. Now his bit is even more hilarious.
I get goosebumps watching this! What a world class athlete Jesse Owens was ✊🏾
Beautiful he ran with grace :)) and was a trail blazer people don't appreciate you until your gone he had to run against horses when he got home to get money to survive a true hero :)) God bless ya Jesse x
The Robinson brothers were amazing
He did so so elegantly.
Germany ended up being the most successful Nation in the games, bringing in 89 medals, with America second.
@Juu9do you guys hated Jesse Owens but now wanna flex his wins? You Americans are fcked in the head.
The friendship between Luz long and Jesse ❤️😭
A tranquilidade que ele passa na corrida dele é sem igual, parece que nem se desgasta.
i actually by accident came across a small chapter about jesse owens and luz long while in 9th grade around 2009. very interesting story. as you can see in the video, just after his long jump he gets congratulated by a german (luz long) who eventually wins silver.
The truth is that in the US at that time, a white man would never shake hands with Jesse Owens as I saw in this video.
Jesse Owens single handedly proved hitlers superiority theory was false
He ran effortlessly! No stress!
I'm glad ICSE has the story of Jesse Owens in their literature syllabus. There so much to know about him!
Also Luz Long !!
Jesse was running out of holes dug in the track, on cinder, and with leather shoes and ran a 10.2 sec. 100 m!? Are you kidding me!? What a legend.
Owens set the long jump record of 8.13m in 1935. It lasted for 25 years. 25 freakin' years!
Just making an assumption here but the fact that Ralph Metcalfe was catching him up very quick in the ending makes me think that Jesse wasn't pushing 100% the last meters because he was winning easily so probably he could have achieve a better time. But anyway is still an impressive mark.
Anyone else currently reading 'The Book Thief'? LOL
Just finished it! The book was absolutely amazing and the ending made me cry🥺❤️
Jesse Owen is the legend
One small Germany in the size of HALF of state of Texas still won most gold medals that olympics.SHOCKING if you ask me!
Drugs. They were all on drugs. An the US population wasn't much bigger than Germany in 1936. 80 millions vs about 128 millions.
Don't forget Luz Long. The German.
733 ...what a great number ..well done jesse ..
When Jesse got back home and having his gold medals hanging from his neck, at the airport, the first thing he saw, was a sing written 'Whites-only' outside the public restroom.
Do you feel the same disgust at Muhammad Ali saying
_"You're my enemy. My enemy is the white people."_
Jesse Owens was a Giant !!
So effortless, its like hes not even trying🔥🔥🔥
Fun freaking fact. The black guy in second place 1:09 is Jackie Robinson’s older brother
Awesome, ça du être un moment fantastique !
He looks effortless and the others looks like they're dying lol hes so strong big legend respect

Exactly this Olympic channel obviously hasn't discovered that Owens achieved 4 golds at the Berlin Olympics - not 3 as indicated in the video (the last gold came in the 4x100 meter relay)!
Awesome. Thank you for who posted this. I am Running my own race. Not quite like this but this was wonderful to see.
given the date, location, and audience, the cheerful handshake at 0:35 makes me extra happy
I met Ralph Metcalfe in a restaurant in St Louis in 1974. I was with a friend from the USAF and we were went to his home in St Louis. We went to a diner and when we went in the door there was a group of men standing waiting to be seated. The mother of my friend suddenly stopped talking and looked at the men and said "HEY, YOU'RE RALPH METCALFE!!" It was funny that I had just read a book about Jesse Owens and know right away who he was. He was visiting friends in St Louis as part of doing some campaigning for election. I had had a chance to chat with him briefly, and, got to shake his hand. He was so open and friendly and very approachable. I only wish I had a picture with him.
Thank you... we steel remember you. Next weak at the track I will smile for you before do sprint.

Today I learned about this when reading about Adidas. Awesome story
What a win.
made a GIF from this as no GIFS of the legendary Jesse Owens existed
Fun fact: In the 200m sprint (second race in the video), the black athlete that won silver was Mack Robinson; the brother of Jackie Robinson who broke baseball's color barrier in 1947.
It's crazy he ran a 10.3 on a dirt track with no starting blocks either

Not really, he was paranoid about his performance during the qualifiers. It was Luz Long (the tall dude who comes after Owens finishes the long jump) who calmed him down
