I had the random urge during one of my playthroughs to see if you can put the shield in to your right hand and use it as a weapon. To my surprise you can! Which led to my curiosity can you beat dark souls with shields only? Today in this video I will be going over how I went about this dark souls challenge run. #Darksouls #darksoulschallengerun #darksouls3

Idk if someone has already said this, but elemental damage isn't as good as it sounds on paper, your damage gets split into two different types, so it goes against 2 defense stats individually (let's say 400 AR equally split against a 100 defense enemy on everything, you're doing 200-100 physical, 200-100 fire damage, which is more or less the same you would do on a pure physical 300 AR, and that without taking into account absorption)
For the SFX of the game in the background I wasn't able to make it audible in some sections like Boss fights due to the music being so loud during the fights. I had already completed this run and another before getting this feedback. So the Next video will be similar to this one with how the sound was handle but after that I'll make sure to adjust the music so I can have the SFX be more prominent in the videos after this one and the next.

Quelaag is COMPLETELY immune to bleed.
The covenant of Artorias doesn't stop power within from working, it is a body buff like transient curses are which is what caused it to not be usable.

For anyone else thinking of doing a shield only run, don't forget to grab a Baldur Side Shield from the Baldur knights, it's the highest stability medium shield and absolutely epic at that early part of the game, also great for SL1 runs.
Yeah, that 75 stability carried me so hard in my SL1 run.
@@Seek64 I'd need to check the numbers but it might be the highest stability 100% standard defense shield you can use at SL1.

Thank you Trololo! Yup, I just know DS1 so well right now that it is faster for me to get runs done. It would take me way longer to do a DS2 or DS3 run since I haven't played DS3 since 2016 and I have never played DS2. So once I do bare fist and kicks only run I will switch to DS3 or DS2
I swear whenever a shield hero fan finds out you could attack with a shield in dark souls they immediately try to beat the game with only shields.
I know this because I did the exact same thing lol great video.

The main point of elemental infusion on a low-level char it deals better damage than the normal path.
Or if you go for minimum weapon requirements and 40 endurance and tons of vitality it will out-damage normal scaling weapons if they also went for high endurance and hp or they have better scaling but low hp stamina. So there is a trade-off.
Eg. Chaos Zweihander.
In rare cases against very weak to elementals, you can out-damage normal scaling even if they have high str and dex.
Eg. Slimes in depths have 1500 physical defense but very low fire def.
But if a player goes for 40 dex or 27/40 str normal path is almost always better damage.
But then you have less endurance or hp as a trade-off.
Of course, at a very high level, you can get all so normal becomes better.
Split damage usually benefits from high base damage weapons and the use of enemy weakness in mind.
Eg. Skeleton is resistant to thrust but weak to strike damage.
So divine path is better with strike-damage weapons. Eg.mace, most "paladin" weapons.......
Two-handing weapon R1 usually has 1.2 motion modifiers so can often help split damage and overcome enemy defence.
Even more so if it has str scaling.

I noticed you mentioned the slumbering dragoncrest ring, where specifically do you use it? i've gotten through the whole game not knowing it exists, i'm guessing it helps with Nito to not attract the skeletons?
You can get it by killing grigs. In my early runs I wasn't really good at dodging enemies so I used it to help not get noticed. I didn't learn until recently that you can use fog ring and slumbering dragon crest to lure out nito

You dont need 40 str if you two hand the shields, 27 is enough as when you two hand it has 1.5x multiplier to str stat crossing the 40 soft cap
100% agree, but I used the 40 str for the stat scaling. Since I wasn't going to be able to modify the weapon until after O&S I wanted as much damage as possible for that fight. Which I know the damage increase would be small, but I was terrified of the O&S fight 😅

You're completely right, it would of definitely been wiser to have more health or endurance for the fight. I was being to much of a chicken at the time to strategies properly lol

Did you know that the Sanctus heals you 2 hp every 2 seconds?
I did, unfortunately didn't get to use the shield in that way do to needing the grass crest shield for that endurance recovery
How come you don’t add the dlc to your lists?
It's do to my limited time frame. The more I do in the game the more time it would take for me to get a video out, but I do plan on doing a video soon with the dlc

Also you can do challenge - "must equip any shiny that you see on screen even for second in Left hand/RightHand/Armor/Ring/Item slot (1 item slot only)". camera down and pray to not softlock)

@@Mr.Jim248 I knew about the shield. I think at the time the bonewheel shield was doing so well that I decided I was content with what I had. That's the only thing I could think of for why I wouldn't get it
