  • The lines defining traditional main stream cars and luxury vehicles has been blurring for years. The 2014 Kia Cadenza is a new full-sized family sedan that shares the same platform as the Hyundai Azera. The Cadenza aspires to be a luxury car while still wearing a mainstream badge. This full-sized vehicle combines Technology, Safety, and Convenience features into one affordable package. The base price for the Premium trim level is $35,100. The model tested here is optioned out with the Luxury and Technology Packages which adds $6k to the price.
    Research the 2014 Kia Cadenza
    www.autobytel.c...
At first glance the Cadenza looks upscale while maintaining some of the design features found in similar models from Kia. Upfront the Tiger Nose Grille seems to be the new design direction. The trim on the exterior is chrome while the wheels are 19-inch alloy units. Out back the LED taillights look upscale as does the exhaust which is integrated in the rear bumper.
Under the hood is Direct Injected 3.3 liter V-6 engine that makes 293 horsepower and 255 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic which seems a bit behind the competition. The fuel economy ratings are 19 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.
The Cadenza is a full-sized sedan with a 15.9 cubic feet of trunk space. The stereo is 550 watt sound system, there is dual climate control, backup camera, navigation, and more. In addition to all this the Luxury Package includes a Panoramic Sunroof, Rear Power Window Shade, Nappa leather, and more. The Technology Package includes Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and more.
The 2014 Kia Cadenza is an exceptionally refined vehicle. The Cadenza cabin is quiet, the seats are comfortable, and this full-sized car handles the curves quite well. Between the lusty V-6 engine, the powerful acceleration, and the excellent brakes; the Cadenza is a wonderful driving automobile.

I LOVE THIS CAR! Can't wait to get out if my $80,000 MB GL450 and get into this car. My previous car was a 2009 BMW 750Li $(102,000). This Cadenza blew me way!

The back seats don't fold down because they have side airbags in them! You should add an annotation that says that! I keep seeing this in all the reviews of the Cadenza! Before you bash the car for something, you should do a little more research! The new Avalon has airbags in the back too and it's seat don't fold down for the same reason!

Looks like everything I love about my 2012 Optima EX was built into the Cadenza. Both nice rides!!!

you know you have a nice car when a dude driving a BMW waives at you at the stop light and ask if your car is really a kia. Yep..that happened to me.

And as for the fuel economy, I consistently seem to be the only person in the world who's discovered that Hyundai's and Kia's clutchless manual transmissions can be used to increase those numbers if used in the same way as a traditional stick: manually shifting up earlier in the city, keeping it in the manual mode on the freeway to keep it in that highest gear. I drive a 2004 Tiburon GTV6 with the 4-speed Shiftronic and average 35 Miles Per Gallon on the freeway using the manual shifting mode.

Every reviewer speaking inside the car during a typical review I hear road and wind noise through the mic. I'm talking upscale car reviews. This one I only hear him speaking. And that my friends is important to me. It shows how hard they tried. Also their is a film on all Cadenza glass to expel rain so when it rains you see clearly.

I don't understand why people would ever judge a car company by its past. Lexus' old lineup was completely aimed at an older generation and now here are people drooling over its new sports oriented vehicles. Besides, you wouldn't want to be judged on your passed for let's say a job interview, no you want people to look at what you're worth now, in the present. And I would expect people to be capable of doing so with Kia.

I don't agree with what the guy is saying in the end. Great review btw. I think that when you place this car next to the luxury car mentioned, the person that bought the luxury car is not getting the value for their money. I don't ever want to pay for a badge. If I can get the same stuff for a lot less, that's the smart choice. Because if all you can say is my badge is different than yours and that justifies the price, then I believe you are wrong :)

Relax man there is no such thing as perfect car. Each and every has pros and cons. So, learn to appreciate that this guy spent some time to make a fair test of the car, as much as he can be. I can tell from his overall approach to the cars that he does not try to bash the car with an ulterior motive that many reviewers have.

  • @VTXHobbit

In fact Kia and Hyundai are putting out much better vehicles then BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti, but people would rather spend the money on lesser quality car because it has a BMW badge on it.

Wonder why MotorTrend rated it first over the Avalon, and put the Avalon at the very bottom in a competition.

And I get 28 MPG in the city. My dad drives a 2008 Optima (I know, not nearly as attractive as the 2013's) with the 4 cylinder, I taught him the technique and he gets 42 MPG on the freeway and about 33 around town.

  • @grandemage

Seems to be common with Kia's and their mpg ratings. Been getting in trouble with consumers, latest example was their Soul, for not getting anywhere close to advertised mileage. =\

Solid review! It's called badge snobbery; a lot of idiot people care too much about the symbol or letters on the outside of the vehicle.

  • @VTXHobbit
    @VTXHobbit Před 11 lety

Car manufacturers will peak every few years as to who is putting out the best stuff. Right now, that's Hyundai and Kia. Ford is making a comeback after GM had the market, and Chrysler has been out since the early 2000's. Toyota and Honda are always near top, but losing lots of ground to Kia and Hyundai. And then there is Nissan just humming along satisfied with being mediocre, just like Chrysler.

To some people the badge that's on the hood or trunk lid goes synonymous with quality. KIA, unfortunately, even if they are putting out quality vehicles, is not.

KIA ruined its reputation back in the early 2k's when they put out a line up of throw away econo boxes. It will be hard to break that stigma no matter how hard they try. It will always be an uphill battle for them. I don't care how luxurious and refined they make them, I will never buy a KIA. They don't call the them Kilyas for nothing;)
