Reading Mixtec Writing: Tonindeye AKA Nuttall Codex

- We read a Mixtec book, called the Nuttall Codex in English, or Tonindeye in Mixtec.
The book is one of few surviving preconquest books in the Americas, and dates to around 1200-1500s, containing historical information in the Mixtec region from the 900s-1100s.
Today Mixtec is spoken in southern Puebla, eastern Guerrero and western Oaxaca.
Love this video and all the work you do with your channel; hope these readings will come back because they're such a fascinating look into Mixtec writing, their literary conventions, and ways they tracked history. The level of depth and detail that these historical works can convey through what most people would just dismiss as "drawings" is incredible and deserves all the attention it can get. This is some incredible work. Thank you for putting in so much effort, these codices are so interesting but I imagine most people are too intimidated to actually attempt reading them. Have you considered doing similar read-throughs of other documents like the codex bodley?
Time permitting id love to, but i work alot to keep up with american cost of living prices :/
My family says wee are n'davi or "people of the poor" but it's a debate between "nuu'davi" or "nandavi"
Hey! Its a common misconception
Nda'vi is poor but davi is rain, the oldest texts say its supposed to mean people.of the rain, or davi the rain god. Also spelled.dzahui. ñuu davi is the nation of rain, nadavi is the people of the rain, so both make sense. Sounds like you speak mixteco bajo, near puebla.
you should do more videos . I know they are time consuming but there are to many videos telling us the history made by people that only read a book. For lack of a better term , history that has been whitewashed.

May I ask where you found the full Codex? The internet archive version starts on page 44.
I think the codex is numbered backwards, because it reads right to left
@@thenahuatlchannel3896 yes but the one i'm referring to moves from page 44 to the 80s. the British Museum has a link to one that goes from 1-80s, but it's not very accessible. Was just wondering if you knew of a better source.
Also, do you know of translations of the Selden and Vindobonensis?
