It's more like a song for the 48%. According to a 2013 study of British Class, 48% of people are "working class" or lower. That's all your electronics technicians, care workers, cleaners, van drivers, electricians, bar staff, chefs, nursing auxiliaries and assistants, assemblers and routine operatives, elementary storage occupations, customer service occupations, joiners, caretakers, leisure and travel service occupations, shopkeepers and proprietors, and retail cashiers. The Common People
Being a poor kid in the 90s who lived in a council house, this song for me like many other people was so easy to relate to. That was the great thing about Britpop, the commercialised, manufactured rubbish today is so fake, it has no meaning.
This is a devastating performance by a ridiculously underrated band. "Common People" is a classic, possibly the greatest lyric to ever grace the UK top five. Anyone remember the Tory that said he could live on dole money and would prove it by doing it for a week? I don't know if Cocker was inspired by that idiocy but the fact that the guy wouldn't experience the despair of living on benefits because he'd be back to his nice life in a week is really reminiscent of the rich girl in the song slumming it and being one phone call away from luxury. This was a triumph.
These people are middle class for the most part. Don’t know where you’ve got the idea that Glastonbury was a working class thing. Although I agree with the rump of your comment
Alright grandad, when I was listening to Pulp my much older brother who was a punk used to piss and moan with his mates saying the same thing about Britpop. Music move with the times, The kids are alright.
Coachella went the other way. Trust fund kids and Hollywood messed up that festival. People forget it used to be an amazing festival. Same thing with Burning Man. Shame what these festivals have become.
2020 is a tuff year thank god my locals open and its Sunday lunch time with 8 pints in me and 30 people singing along to this in my local Jarvis you legend
Jarvis, and by far. He is probably the best frontman ever, and his writing style and the riffs are unique, and awsome, his style too, the dance moves. And Common people is in the top five as best track in the 90s. I mean to like Pulp is cool
I will have a rum and coke a cola For my two bestest friends. Thanks. I owe you both. Shit...that looks alot like the Pink Floyd Stage used for PULSE XD I love Pulp powerful
No, check out Reading 2011, it's easily my favourite of all the ones I've seen here on CZcams. And the crowd. You can hear them singing the whole way through. I love it!
Thank you for writing a song for the 99 percent.

The Common People
@@TSotP so the people who keep the country moving
The best lyrics in the history of music and lyrics. Even without the music, it's a great piece of modern poetry.

One of the best live performances I have ever seen. The roar of the crowd at the end was unreal.
Fuck me, I was somewhere in that crowd, muddy and rainy it was but what memories to have
This is one of the greatest songs to be performed live
I was there so long ago still sends shivers down my spine ps I was on acid even better xdx
I am so jealous, are you a dad now? if so you are one fucking cool dad.
HOLY SHIT THAT MUST HAVE BEEN AMAZING
This should be the UK national anthem - either empty oblivion or be creative and escape
Back when glastonbury was raw and about the music and not full of middle class kids pretending to be hippies for the weekend

I saw them here in 95 - did they do 98 too? or is this 95
Glory years of Glastonbury, recent decade has been one shite act after another
Anthem
I just wish they would sit on a shot longer then 5 secs.
Even the Gallagher brothers rated this at the time
Is it the ultimate live version???
No, check out Reading 2011, it's easily my favourite of all the ones I've seen here on CZcams. And the crowd. You can hear them singing the whole way through. I love it!

Jarvis
Or Ian brown.
Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Jarvis, but definitely not Noel...
Pulp without Russel's violin
There no Americans or French or even worst Italians......MUSIC will always have one Flag.........BRITISH
Yeah, what ever did Americans bring to rock music? Oh...
What's your beef with Italians
I hated Jimi Hendrix's silly British accent 😂
@@meesterSmeeth4182 i hate brit accents too, so damn pretentious
Ranger9700 hmm I think you met pretentious brits or you don’t quite know what pretension means
Oh the irony
Ugh and blech... barf 🤮There used to be really wonderful videos of this song at Glastonbury 95. They’ve sold out and the irony makes me sob.
