Yo man, I wanna thank you a lot because I have pretty bad social anxiety, and it's hard for me to approach this because I wasn't sure how to use it. This helped, and tomorrow is chest and biceps...I'm doing it!

For anyone that has social anxiety like me, i would recommend going at night when there’s barley any people (past 11 PM). I over came my nervousness and i got comfortable around the gym, but when you start, you should go at night and explore/experience the machines around when no one is looking at you 🙏🏽

@@kingchenny5669 I don’t go to Planet Fitness but in my city with a population of 1.5 million, the gym I go to is empty as hell at 7AM. Probably because everyone is at work at that time. I’m sure this is the case in most cities
In my experience, the gym starts to get way less people after 11PM, and stays really empty until about 11AM.

Yea u should use it I use both the smith machine and the actual bench I find that even though it's 30 pounds less If I take of ten pounds on each side I can do it on the actual bench(weight room at my school) people give it a bad name but I haven't had any bad experiences from it just learn the difference between each depending on ur self if u want to use the real bench also idk if anyone else feels it but when I bench in the smith I don't feel like I can explode up in actual bench I can so it might be easier than u think to bench around the same weight on actual benches

Recovery is a mind, body and soul thing. Its like once i started workout and taking better physical care of myself(i did doctor, dentist, etc to make sure that I was healthy enough to begin a workout regime and adjust my diet for less calories) it like something has clicked in place. So go. Trust me, no one there is perfect and every one there is working on themselves. Good luck and God bless.

Do yourself a favor and change gyms. YMCA is on the cheaper side and will have power cages, squats racks, and bench racks. I've been to some that even had deadlift and oly platforms. Also, check your local universities for community memberships. If you have to stay at Planet Fitness, then use dumbbells. Smith Machine bench is only going to fuck up your form and lead to muscle imbalances. The guy in the video doesn't even know how to bench properly. He's telling you to lay flat against the bench without retracting your scapula which is a no no. Also, do you really want to end up with his physique?

Thanks, good video! but you should also mention that some smiths are angled vs. straight. Looks like the one you're using has the 7 degree angle. Lots of confusion over which way to sit when the smith is angled. Looks like you're doing it correctly. Bar moves from chest toward head as it rises.

I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

Does PF have freeweights? Im asking because aside from injury/rehab work, full time use of a smith machine is detrimental. Give your clients other exercises to perform that might strengthen the stabilizers. In 1.5 years my bench one rep max went from 185 lbs to 315 lbs using guess what? You got it..freeweights. I've seen two set-ups for the bench itself. You have it outside the machine, I've seen it inside/under the machine. The difference I see is when lifting the weight, one causes the weight to move toward your head, the other the weight moves away from your head. Is one more correct than the other?

@@stuggy5370 I like when the bench is "under" the machine. I like to push the weight out in front of me rather than toward my shoulders. there may be a safer way to re-hook the weights which would change the bench position, but I don't know it.

Form is everything when moving weights. Next time, try to make sure the bar goes under your nipple line. Then pull your shoulders back. When you push up, make sure it stays like that, and while pushing up, aim to squeeze your chest in a flex. You'll feel the difference.

for anybody out there wanting to do bench press, DO NOT use a smith machine. Bench press is supposed to be done on a slight arc motion, not a fixed motion.
the fixed motion restricts the bodies ability to use stabilizer muscles, and is especially not good for your shoulders
