Like any succulents which are rooting or developing an immature root system, you want the mix to be very light so those roots can easily form. Aloe vera pups are planted basically the same way that you would an established plant except for a couple of slight differences.
The Aloe vera plant has a root ball to anchor it down in that light mix whereas you have to play with the pups a bit to get them to stand up & not completely flop over. With the pups, I sprinkle a thin layer of worm compost on the top whereas, with the plant, I add both compost & a greater amount of worm compost.
In spring I’ll transplant these pups into larger pots. My mother plant got knocked over by a raccoon so I’ll keep 2 pots for myself - 1 for inside & one for outside. I’ll give the rest away. After all, I’m happy to pass on the aloe goodness!

Well, I saw one of your videos about how to rescue unhealthy aloes. I have two that were turning brown and wilty...I followed your suggestions about light and watering. OMG! Its just been a few days and they went from brownish and witty to green and strong! Keeping them going is important because they are from a bunch from my Godmother’s house and she has passed away!!!!
THANKYOU THANKYOU🥰🥰🥰
how are they doing now?
surprised with how comfortably aggressive you can be with the roots and plants in general! good to know - I'm always super, potentially overly, cautious :p Thanks!
I thought the same thing right away! I thought, "she plants like I do, I guess I'm not too rough." LMAO
Thanks so much! I have six pups to plant. Now I know you are here I will keep coming back for tips! Liz, St. Albans, England.
Thank you for posting this video! I just separated aloe pups from my plant yesterday and was looking for how to care for them as I didn't want to over water. This was a big help!
My dear granny bought two plants for me as I wanted to try it on my veeeeery sensitive skin.
I always wondered why the leaves didn't get bigger but there were more and more of them. Let's say after some CZcams videos I realised I didn't only have one plant in each pot.
After taking them out of the pot and laying them out on a table, I... Ended up with... 25 plants...
Four are very big and strong, but I don't think the others will make it. They are very thin (leaves growing in two opposite direction, none like to the left and right) and falling over all the time because they don't have enough roots for their size....
I have a garden of Aloe Vera and I liked your video. And I'm sure you are a nature lover and u have given us a message , gardening is a interesting hobby.
I love to watched an video about Alô Vera it's helping me to learned a lot about Alô Vera become my favorite to watch thanks to a TV shows
I love aloe so much but they never seem to last with me. They either get a rotten root or just dry out.... But your video has renewed my spirits! Love your channel!
You're so friendly! Thanks for the video. Why did you plant so many in one pot?
She said she just wants to stick them all in there to grow a bit more root before repotting them into separate containers. It's sort of a waste to use up so many pots that are only temporary for rooting such tiny pups.
Plus, it's easier to keep track of their progress and watering, especially if you're needing to move them for lighting purposes with them all being in one pot together as opposed to several different pots.
Lovely. Lovely and beautiful
Many thanks. Nell
Yaay! Your'e back with your aloe vera video's!
You mentioned worm compost, but when I looked it up, it only suggests how to compost with worms. You said you sprinkled it on top. Can you link the compost products
Thank you sooooo much!!!!☀️💕
Can you make a video about how do you make aloe vera soil??
Great tips, thanks love
My pleasure! xo Nell
When you repot them can you trim the roots back a little bit and it not hurt them
Love your videos!!!
Can you please clarify, with pups you say: "... you want to water them more than you would an established plant..." which I agree with from my experience, BUT, why do most videos say to WAIT until watering the pups the first time after replanting? This doesn't make sense... thanks for your video!
Love it thanks what do the worm castings do??
They are very nutritious for all plants.
Is a SANDY SOIL the best?
I enjoy ALOE VERA. 😋😁😁😁👍👍 but they don't LAST, LIVE AS LONG AS Everyone else's plants. 😲😥😥😥😥😓😓 Please more advice. Oh, this person lives in MINNESOTA USA. COLD TEMPERATURES!!! Summer season is warm , not NOT HOT.
So my university was handout aloe pups just randomly and I go one but it doesn’t really have any roots.... would it still grow if I pot it and do everything right?
How close should I put my aloe to a grow light
Is it ok to use loam soil if I don't have succulent mix? I know they can be pretty sensitive. Just want to make sure the pups will survive. Thank you.
Does Aloe Vera need direct sun light?
no
Hello there I love your videos...I have a question..I have been growing medicinal aloe vera for about 4 years now I use it as a moisturizer..some are successful some aren't lol...but when I cut a nice big grown juicey leaf about half way down off I have read heaps that they stop growing??? I have cut a few of my leafs off from about an inch from the base and im sure they do continue to grow slowly...so they do still grow after being cut aye? It just really confuses me reading when you cut a leaf it stops growing..
its been 6 months but no plant grows back from the place you cut it. it encourages their growth but they wont keep growing from the place they have been cut
@@furkandemirel2416 oh thank you for your comment mine have actually kept growing a lot from where I cut them
What time of year can we transplant
luv ur video s
I'm a new sub love your content
Thank you! Nell
I have subscribe your channel .you should subscribe my channel.
Can anyone help I have pups coming via post which means they will of been dry and out of light for possibly 2-3 days when I get them and pot them do I water immediately it's my first time growing any aloe and I'm terrified I kill it or it arrives dead
Hi - If they're dry to the point of being stressed, then water them after you plant. I make sure my pups are in good shape before I remove & plant them. Nell
Thank u I've been waiting on post nervous tomorrow is final day I'll check them out hopefully I can get them all settled without stress
curiousabout everythinginlife how were they. Are they still alive?
My aloe is probably about 8 years old and has never grown a pup. Is there anything I can do to encourage them?
Rebecca Stewart seduce them.
Some just don't
Mine had but after 6 years
I read they will when they start to become root bound. So keep it in an appropriate sized pot, not too large?
Can I wet aloe Vera plant with water
A friend gave me a potted aloe vera plant. It's mature. Trouble is it appears to be to mature plants it's not one and they're attached at the roots. Can I safely divide them. These plants are at least 6 years old. I would hate to divide them and kill both. They honestly do look like two separate plants and they for all intents and purposes are except the roots. There's about four in between them above the soil and I would say both the longest leaves on them are about 20 in on both. They appear to be the same size. One does not look like a pup. Sorry I get wordy, any suggestions would be much appreciated thank you in advance.
Please help urgently my plants have arrived bone dry I watered them one of the leafs has a slight bend not far from top will it die or is they anything I can do or send a picture to someone who can give opinion to help. Thank u in advance guys
Also my biggest leaf Is oozing the aloe what can I do :(
Did it die???? My aloe has a bent too
You are very kind I am from Syria my aloe Vera is dyeing I put it in soil then I watered it the following day the soil became very hard like a stone what shall I do ?
Nadiaaziz Farisaziz hi sister i'm from egypt .. look you have to put it in a mix of soil and sand 1:1 ratio
And don't let it in that soil only because it needs to be in A well drained potting soil or it will die.
Nancy Hany thank you very much I want to tell that I live in Lattakia
Can l use the sand from the sea and mix it with the soil
Can I keep them in the sun room or bring them outside during summer.
Muna Med I’m not an expert on plants, but I’m on my second summer with one of my aloe plants and it’s never been outside. I just leave it in a bright room and place it under my grow light once the room has dulled down if it looks like the leaves are dropping.
i will sub for you.
I want one 😰
i won t mine 1
you breeding aloe vera pups when its small, will long time to grow
All of my separated pups died because I left them in tissue paper in the dark for a few days before I potted them 😢 when I potted them there was little hope 😂
i have never had luck with this plant at all, they stay alive but i never had pups, not once, plant is healthy, i dont oever water them, dont get it, haha
Why are you not showing how to remove them ? Ugh
That's in another video. She said that at the beginning. Ugh yourself :)
Too much thinking out loud
