      Yes, it's an opportunity to demonstrate your skills and attitude. If you impress on that first job, the next one will come to you.

    I worked on a mineral sands RC rig when I was 17. I had no idea what was going on, but I worked my arse off.

    Are there any sensors that will record the mineral alteration of the rock chips that the geologist is looking for. It would remove bias as young geologists might finding alteration mineral mapping a challenge and also greatly speed up the whole process. For eg the sensor picks out the sericite alteration , the core logging geologist notes the recording and quickly becomes conversant in recognizing alteration mineral assemblages.

    • @GeologyUpSkill
      @GeologyUpSkill  Před rokem +3

      Yes. And sensors like that are becoming much more used in mine environments where the rocktypes and alteration facies are well understood. It's a little more tricky in exploration environments where you don't know what you are looking for and many of the clues are in textural relationships. For example, a muscovite schist and a sercite altered granite look like the same rock to a spectral scanner without any context. Once you know that they exist in the same project, you can train the scanner to recognise subtle differences to separate them.

    when he said " you'll be looking in the opposite direction of the drill hole ..." if you drill in the direction your looking ?
    what did he mean ??

    • @GeologyUpSkill
      @GeologyUpSkill  Před 2 lety +1

      If the drill hole has a planned azimuth of 090 magnetic and you are sighting from the front of the rig, your compass should read 270 not 090!

    • @ahogg5960
      @ahogg5960 Před rokem

      If your sighting compass is any good it will have both numbers on the wheel i.e. 270 on top of 090.

    Good to See...am Also handling DD and RC here in Congo....
    The Negative thing about the RC is The Dusts...and Water coming from The Hole...Need to Bath againg and again..😂....
    Still RC is cheaper and faster ..and for an immediate result me as a Geologist will prefer RC.

      RC is hard to beat if you have a good handle on the geology already.

    • @GeologyUpSkill
      @GeologyUpSkill  Před 3 lety

      That's exactly why it's a no-go zone as the geo pointed out.

      @@GeologyUpSkill safety isn’t just for the geos, the offsiders are constantly there and nobody stopped the process when they saw something wrong. I’m not trying to insult your video or anything, I like the video but I have also experience in drilling and got a permanent disability because people didn’t care for safety! Great video anyway ❤️

    • @GeologyUpSkill
      @GeologyUpSkill  Před 3 lety +3

      This video is about the geologists job on the rig. The geologists on site must abide by the safety management system defined by the drillers. That is what is explained here. If the drillers judge that their equipment is safe to operate, then they are responsible for that decision. In this case, the drill program was completed without a hose failure so it is clear that their judgement was correct.
      I'm sorry to hear about your accident. There are no doubt numerous videos to be made about safety issues on drill rigs. I see you have made some yourself and I would be happy to make some also if the opportunity arises.
