I moved to NYC in May to do an art internship to learn to be an artist in Brooklyn. The whole internship was a hot mess. While I was there I made friends with a girl who's a coder. Her life seemed like a dream. I'm very bad with computers, but she taught me some code, insisting that I'm smart enough and capable enough to do it. Because of her, my whole life plan changed. I moved back home and now I'm going back to college for computer science. Just now I was signing up for classes and got a little discouraged. I came across your youtube channel and it's really inspiring to see you out there living the dream. Thanks for making these videos. It helps me believe that I can do it too.
How has your journey progressed since?
@@adam-ns1he I decided it's not computer science I wanted to study but NEUROscience! So I'm going back to school for that. Kinda more interested in the boundaries between consciousness and inanimate objects, which is more about studying life than studying computers.
@@maiamaiapapaya Thanks for the update! Life is big and full of interesting things. I wouldn't be surprised for a scientist to end up being one of the best real estate agents ever 😅, as an example.
I'm so happy to see a black woman in tech. I am going to be going to school in January for software engineering. ❤️ New subscriber
Edit to add : I am currently in school getting my computer science degree . I have a 4.0 GPA and loving school . And for those who called me racist I am the least racist person in this world. I have two sons who are half white and my fiancé is white so yeah find someone else to call racist 🤌🏾😌
Congrats, CS is def one of the best majors in terms of ROI!!
@@Bukola1 thanks so much
@@CozygirlSteph hehe saw u in senegoddess too😜😋
@@hamidamohamed4923 yes I try to follow as many black women in tech that I can

You know what appeals to me about this , working alone and not dealing with people .... typical introvert ☺️🤣 I imagine you have a mean work playlist 👌🏾
That's what I was thinking! I'm in the wrong field as a social worker, I messed up
@@mariselissa lol yea social worker....DO IT FOR THE LOVE NOT THE MONEY
Still Waters & Black Diamond. I'm 3rd on that emotion. I was in the computer field yrs ago working the Tech Support help desk. I'm the one that needed help at the end of the day. I used to kid my co workers after clocking out that I didn't know if I wanted to take the elevator or the window down from the 11th fl.
@@jeffhandy1102 I didn't do it for the money. Love's not there, like I thought it would be..
@@mariselissa yes i was being sarcastic...lol
Wow, you're living the dream!! Good to see more black women in this field. This video is really inspirational to the black community. I want to be a software engineer too!!! Please upload more
thank you!
Glad I found this channel, now I know all 14 black women in tech
No only for black woman! I love your story and your skills are so impressiv
they are a lot of black women in this field. remember America isn't the rest of the world.
Literally never saw myself in a position like this and I don’t know why this is fantastic I’m abt to pursue programming
It’s a really good profession. Some people say, they “don’t want to sit in front of a computer all day”... but honestly only 50% of my day is actually coding.
And the freedom of working from home, job security, and creativity makes up for the other days of work stress.
Well yeah 50% is about right, standups and especially documentation takes a long time. But the industry isn't for everyone, you gotta be smart to get in and do well in top tier tech companies. A lot of self taught people skip competitive programming, which I think everyone should try their hands on to prepare for interviews.
@@cjezinne sjjsh4w2244
@@aditnegi2577 lol what. No you don't got to be smart. There's little to nothing difficult to coding. Unless it's very specific tasks. Anybody can excel at Front End Engineering for one and top tier companies still hire for that. There's nothing difficult about it. Don't try to gatekeep.
C Plus Plus Sized Dick “Anybody can excel at anything”
Frontend can be difficult, especially at large tech companies.
If your talking about web design stuff, sure HTML/CSS is digestible.
But current large scalable frontend tech get extensive fast... here’s a roadmap: roadmap.sh/frontend
Personally, I work on the backend side of things now, but my previous frontend work was much more stressful.
Your job is literally INSANE the atmosphere just looks so chill but also a good workplace 💀 can’t wait to get my degree
As a Ghanaian in IT it’s great to see West African women in tech 😊 🇬🇭 🇳🇬

Wow that white couch room with the view of the 🗽 !! You honestly belong in vogue 😍
I feel really lucky that I get to see that view every day :)
That Vogue comment makes me want to comment you also honestly belong at your keyboard 😉 love to see more diversity in this field and it's awesome that you're sharing your narrative!
Right?!
Tbh I have no interest at all in anything engineering related (I’m pre-law lol) but I LOVE this girl! She is focused, funny, financially responsible and all round wholesome! I honestly just love seeing black women thrive!
I love seeing other black female software engineers on youtube!
So do I! We are few, but it always makes me happy to see other black lady SEs on CZcams!
I love seeing other black women in IT
u pervert
Stop saying such stupid patronising things.
@@scottmcmahon7209 It's not patronizing, it's solidarity. Stop trying to be mad
I echo others as a black female professional myself in NYC. I loved watching this. Congrats to you. My cousin and his girlfriend (both black engineers in their 20s) have taken 6 months off to tour parts of the world. We need to see more like him and you. Bravo.
Channel blowing up since that interview !! Congrats gal ! Your story deserves to be heard .. a great inspiration for others in our community 😭🙌
What interview?? I'd like to watch it lol...
What interview
Which interview? Tell me WHICH INTERVIEW!

@@Nobody-wd6ci your comment notification said "Nobody replied" so i thought CZcams is mocking me.
Honestly I'm 16 y/o and i don't have the credentials to get into an Ivy league but seeing another black female go into computer science as a software engineer really inspires me. Like I'm legit pumped rn and its 1 30AM and I know little about coding in any language, but seeing u self study gives me hope. Thanks.
keep going love!! im just finishing my first year of college majoring in computer science and engineering. in a school of 20k ive only met about 4 other black women in cs. don't let the lack of representation discourage you, it just means that you're a trailblazer! 🤘🏿
DID SHE REALLY JUST LEAVE THE SPOON IN HER BOWL WHILE MICROWAVING !!!!OMG ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE THE MICROWAVE EXPLODE
Some really fancy microwaves are totally fine with metal but it's still unsettling to see
Grace Hawthorne her microwave doesn’t look fancy . The soon it probably not metal
IT'S CALLED QA, SHE'S BASICALLY TRYING TO BREAK HER CODE TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WORKS.
Im am just so freaking inspired by her. I am a 34 year old African American male & I never thought about being a software engineer but just recently I made up in my mind to pursue this career and I'm loving it so far. Love your transparency and how you dont mind inviting us into your life story!! Thanks for inspiring me!!
Blessings!!
Nice video! Really like the voice over explaining things. And like probably everyone has already commented, the view at 0:27 is crazy!
Wow, thank you so much! I've been watching your videos and you make really great content l!!
You're NIGERIAN! 🇳🇬
WOW! ... It's always a pleasure meeting a fellow Nigerian doing well in high places. Thank you for being a good example.
I just SUBSCRIBED!
Hoping to see more of your videos.
Steven Lee hmmm! Many developers do check out stack overflow for simple answers when they face a simple obstacle, otherwise west Africans who migrate to the US especially Nigerians and Ghanians mostly work as SE or game developers , IT management..,. Etc like most indians for example . I met Few Nigerians programmers who don’t like copying codes and prefer to work and solve coding problems by myself but since internet exists why not searching for a simple solution instead of consuming time and energy?! ,and yes there are those who are qualified ones and non qualified ones in every race.
Steven Lee That’s a ridiculous statement. In the real world if you don’t know something or aren’t sure you look it up. You would not sit ans struggle getting the wrong answer out of pride.
You are living my DREAM! Thank you for showing me it’s possible. 💛
Love to see black people In tech 💆🏾♂️ can you shed some light on your interview process?
I definitely will make a video about SWE interviews, they can be brutal!
"yes I'm working, even though my hands are barely on the keyboard" 🤣🙌🏾 research is more than half of the job! Nice channel and office! #icanrelate #webdeveloper
Wow I've been in such a rut, but this was just the video I needed to get re-inspired. I love seeing more Black women in tech. Please create more videos on your journey and tips about getting into the field.
girl, you are killing it! i really want to focus on being more successful in my career. i feel like im heading nowhere, wanted to become a teacher, but didnt like it, tried a lot of other fields but never really settled... i really want to stick my head to something now and your story motivates me. sending you a lot of love from germany
Girl, I relate so much with your videos and your personality. Lol. Keep up the excellent work. When your channel blows, are you planning to become a full-time CZcamsr? I am an accountant with a very creative mind and continually coming up with new ideas. I am still trying to figure out my real purpose.lol. I need some tech people in my life to bash heads and see if we can discover the next big thing. I'd really love to know more about you if you are interested.
I think I may have found my new favorite channel. Considering the move into the tech field and this video was incredibly motivating. Thank you!
The opening statement of what being a software engineer is about is quite accurate. I have been learning to code for a while now and I am finally seriously considering going into formal employement
I love how real you were in this video(the first video I have heard mention of stackflow), new subscriber keep up with the great content

I absolutely loved this! A great representation of life as a software engineer and very inspiring for many. Plus ... the view has to help for inspiration each day.
Hello and thank you for showing your daily life as a software engineer. You have such a calm and relaxing attitude that is reassuring yet promising. Plus I enjoy the music selection you have.
I love it. Currently learning to do the same as a FSE.
The way the sun just shines onto that sheek modern furnished apartment. God I can’t imagine how inspiring and focused it must feel to work there.
Love this channel and thank you for showing how your daily life looks like. I started learning how to code after watching your channel.
Wow! I love this... @The Come Up. I'm a Software Engineer in Cameroon.

Senior Nursing student in NC here. I started learning to code with a mini bootcamp a few months back. Im working on a project now and want to pursue a degree in Computer Science after I graduate in May and become a Software Engineer
awesome day in the life. love seeing diversity in tech :)
Love this! Would love to see a video on your journey to becoming a software engineer! I recently graduated with a business degree but started learning how to code and got hooked - working to become a software developer myself. Any tips for a young female in starting in tech?
Kyla Johnson Hey! Where or how did you learn how to code please ?
Hey dear, you've really motivated me to do more. Thanks for the videos
Very cool video, thank you for sharing. I had to laugh, this video is about as realistic as you can get on what it's like working in a tech office. Everyone with headphones on, most people dancing at their desk, the break room, and my favorite - the ubiquitous orange ping pong ball under the couch because they go EVERYWHERE! LOL. Great video =)
Hi ! I loved your video it was really interesting to see how you schedule your day :)
NY is a very beautiful city and the view from your office is very great !
senegoddess is another black software engineering queen. nice to see black girls killing the game.🤘🏽🤘🏽👏🏽👏🏽
They’re both west africans as well 🇳🇬 🇸🇳 ❤️
I'm going to school for this as well. I hope to be as successful and this is a nice look into others pursuing the same goals.
You’re so peaceful and calming. Watch your videos to avoid ptsd disassociation and attacks
A black Queen in tech! So inspirational! 🙏🏽🙌🏽👑
I love your videos!! I love seeing other people of color in tech. I am also a Software Engineer living in NYC (Williamsburg). Sometimes I feel really isolated but I love my job. I am so happy to be working in this industry although it is challenging sometimes. What you said at the beginning sums it up exactly. I spend a lot of time asking myself why my code is not working 😂, bugging my team on slack (which apparently doesn't bother them) and spending a lot of time google searching. It was really tough asking questions in the beginning, I was experiencing a lot of imposter syndrome and I still do. However, I love the growth and I am so inspired by you! I've played around with elastic search before too. Would be nice to meet you one day at a tech event here when things are semi-back to normal of course 😅God bless!
More black people in tech! Yes! Welcome!
You are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your stories with us. It gives me hope that I will be able to become a Software Engineer before the age of 30.
Legit this is really cool, makes me think about redefining my career towards CS in the near future.
Just found your channel and I’m in love, new subscriber 💕 already motivated 🙌🏽
That view and couch while you work! Nice break from the desk.
I loved your video! You have a new fan. Wishing you all success
You are amazing, sis ❣️ Keep up the great work
Your story is inspiring. Your journey is much like mine. I graduated with a BS in international affairs and later decided to enter the tech world. I opted for an MS is software engineering (in a well know NY University) since I had some great mentors guiding and cheering me on. Best decision I made thus far. I’m in westchester now but miss living in the city. Keep up the great work! Representation is soooooo important! We need more black and brown women in tech! ❤️
you've become such an inspiration for me, i mean, really!
HI I'm also a black woman in tech and applying for jr. web dev positions. This video was great, please make more vids on your S.E. journey :)

Thanks for the video. I've been inspired. I just started a software engineering class and I would like to know some tips on how you studied to become a professional.
Thank you this was very entertaining. I'm watching you for research for my younger cousin. She's always in front of the computer loves to read and well very smart. I don' t have these skills but I will do what ever to get her but through school.
I love your channel! I'm aspiring to be a UX/UI designer! I really want to add coding to my tool belt, too, but later. Love that you have style, beautiful, and intelligent! Way to rep us right sis! Can you do a video on how it's like working with other departments, specifically UX/UI designers? How's collaboration?
I'm so happy to see a woman (and a black woman) succeed in this field, we need to see more of them videos !! I was also interested about what you are working on, what tools you use, how the meetings are going, do they give you freedom to work from home or on your own time, what deadlines do you have, how welcoming are your male colleagues :) But i'll check your other videos !!
Great video it's so refreshing to see other black software engineers on the platform keep up the content!
Thank you! Love your videos too!
I'm personally glad Miss Bukola for your success stories have really motivated me I studied accounting in UniLag Lagos, Nigeria my homeland but as it stands now I teach ICT in schools but honestly I really want to be a programmer also & I'm happy u are the right example 4 me I.e. u studied pol.science & now a software engineer

Subbed, baby. You are great and your office view is WOW.... I wish mine was the same, or at least a little bit more sunny. The office where I work currently is so depressing, with grey walls & barely any light... No wonder you look so happy in that office
