      The blending of their voices was unmatched . They did an acapella version of "A House is not a Home" . Look it up .

    I remember having Anita Kerr jingles on my reel-to-reel tape recorder back in the 60's, and whenever the promo that went, "This is wonderful WLS, haha; This is wonderful WLS, HAHA, c'mon and stay with us a while, eight ninety on your dial, we'll make your day a great big smile, in Chicago, in Chicago, in Chicago, dum dee dum dum." I played that segment probably 100 times, and my mom would ask me why I was playing it so much, then she finally figured out, that it was VERY catchy! She was right......

    This was a talented woman who moved from the radio-commercials into a more serious approach.

    Thank you so much for putting this together! I grew up on the Northwest side in the 60's & 70's and these WLS jingles are still indelibly stamped in my subconscious mind.

      Same here. I was born in Chicago and lived in Evanston from 1967-1973, and I remember those WLS jingles on the radio. I had an aunt who gave me her portable Motorola AM/FM radio and the final year we lived in Evanston, I definitely remember listening to WLS in my bedroom late at night because I was afraid of the dark.

      Thank you, collegeman1988, for chiming in! What a time to have grown up in the greater Chicago area listening to WLS!

      Central illinois here, born in 1952. This brings back such fond memories growing up. Golden age of radio that people today have no idea of what they have missed.

A couple of the ones on other collections i listened for but never found. Thanks so much for sharing. Radio will never be like this again!! I'm a jingle junkie! LOL

    Back in 1963, there was a song. Waitin' for the Evening Train". It was on WLS and the song was sung by the Anita Kerr Singers. i never realized it at the time that the same people who were singing the jingles, before and after the song, "Waitin' on The Evening Train", were the same people.

    First heard at 1:33 and throughout the tape, the five-note signature is still used by WLS' longtime sister station WJR in Detroit.

    @indychauffuer These WLS jingles from the 60s gave me goosebumps back then, along with the cuts that PAMS Productions produced after the Anita Kerr period.
    I wish AM radio still sounded like this nowadays with "personality"... well, at least we have some of these airing in HD2 channel, internet radio, SiriusXM and of course, at WGN Radio 720.

    These radio jingles were great. WGN is trying to bring jingles back with limited success. Now radio is so "cookie cutter" that it's really sad.

    • @keithelster8858
      @keithelster8858 Před rokem +2

      WGN was never a station with jingles from what I remember. They had been a talk station since at least the 1960s. Jingles were associated with music, namely rock and country, stations (WLS, WCFL, WJJD, etc).
