Yes! Me'Shell is da bomb, especially that record in the 90s the song you are jamming to. Such a great musician she is, nice choice!
I'm digging you like an old soul record. One of favorites...
EQD has started to use quiet switches on their pedals, I know even some of the older models are being updated. You can definitely change it yourself, though :p
Not to the one that is in TC pedals tho.
I look forward to more videos
absolutely agree with the method, as it trains your mind to predict unpredictability and real time movement of a song.
Glad to see a reputable artist having the integrity to not always give positive reviews. I think it's true what you say - some of these pedal companies are putting out stuff that sounds cool to have in theory but in practical use they are impossible to use. Electro Harmonix and their line of organ simulation pedals - cool idea, but the tracking is so latent that you can't do anything but play very long notes with them.
the "Scalenator"
Great way to start your vlog!
Hey Janek, you should get yourself an Eventide Pitchfactor! I used to have one and regret selling it. Haven't used the new pedal you're using but the Eventide is much more programmable and usable. I reckon you could get what you want out of that unit!
Tom Baker I met Freekbass at a gig last weekend and he swore by that Pitchfactor!
So cool
Love her
And Jesse Murphy
Who plays with her on a music master
Thank you
awesome, new pedals
Earthquaker on blast!
And he's going mini speedups rather than mini cuts too now, looking better every day mate! Slick as.
Good shout on the 1 hour virtual set, do you play songs you know by ear already/from background radio etc, or stuff you've never heard in your life?
I love how after a vlog on your right hand technique, you use more of a traditional "bass player" right hand technique at the start of this vid 😂😋
It seems as if you were very surprised at the technical playability and actual sound output of the pedal you received, so I'm curious what your research was into this pedal before your purchase? To expand, what types of things do you look for when you have a sound in mind and you're looking for a pedal (or guitar, amp, etc) to help you create that sound? Manufacturer demos, CZcams and/or Amazon reviews, friends who may have tried it...?
Newer EQD pedals have soft switches. I have one on my Night Wire harmonic tremolo. Interested to see if they ever update the older models... EQD does also seem to be moving towards tap tempo with the Avalanche Run etc, but I can see how not having that controllability would be an issue.
Hey Janek, I wouldn't replace the switch. I know that the switch doesn't sound great, but those switches are going to be the ones that last a lifetime and a half. And seeing as how you would probably take the earthquake on the road, that switch is actually a helpful tool.
I was hoping you would play more notes: quarter notes, eight notes, scales, etc, to see what happens. I saw Zawinul warp some notes at an Update concert, sounded like flying through outerspace, going through blackholes, dives, ascents, breakups, implosions... a lot of knob turning. Maybe Fodera can make a bass with more knobs, like a synth!.. .:)
Hey Janek, I've got a question that just popped into my mind... Do you ever struggle to play on basses with larger bodies? I have been playing bass for 12 years and I got my first "serious" bass in 2010 - a German Warwick Corvette 4 string. But more recently in 2015 I bought an F Bass BN5 which sound incredible but the body is quite large. I find it hard to play it comfortably and nearly impossible to rest the lower part of the body between my legs like you do, as opposed to resting it on my right leg. Do you think this is to do with the larger body of the F Bass or the fact that I have played the Warwick Corvette for so long I've become used to all it's little nuances, I find it hard to play on some other basses? Thanks in advance! Tom
Check out the Ottobit Junior by Meris. It's a bitcrusher and there's a 6 step sequencer built in, and it can be set to sequence bit rate, pitch, or filter. I'm definitely looking into one!!!
Warren Lissner I've got the Ottobit Jr. Still have a lot of figuring out to do with it. I'm really a fan of analog pedals, as every time I plug the Ottobit Jr in I have to set everything back up... I'm pretty sure there's a way to do presets with it. Either with MIDI or otherwise. I'm such a simpleton
Anson Stiles There's a great video of the pedal that Juan Alderete did on his PedalandEffects channel. It's worth the watch. They were the ones to debut the pedal!
Warren Lissner oh believe me, I'm familiar with P&E. They're responsible for probably 75% of my purchases and General pedal interests to this point. My issue with that video is that it's more of a commercial and doesn't actually EXPLAIN how to perform some of the more in depth functions. My biggest thing is I wish I could save my expression pedal settings. It gets all wonky when I unplug it. I guess Meris re-released the manual and I should probably take another look at that...
Been digging that Mustang bass since you bought it. Would it be a safe assumption that it would be comfortable and easy to play for someone who wants to pick up bass?
Yes! Those buttons do suck! The hole the button fits through might be the same size, but the piece the buttons and wires attach to might be different sizes. I'm pretty sure the H9 you have can do that stuff and will possibly let you use the tap tempo. Plus it has nicer buttons. It's just a little bigger and has some different power specs. You can extend the button capabilities of it with Barn3's OX9 and Tesla Tap or use an expression pedal with it. I'm telling you the H9, especially a maxed out one is a fantastic pedal! I absolutely love it!
I was just messing around with using the built in MIDI output clock of the H9 to control the tempo of my tc electronic Triple Flashback Delay and DITTOX4. I've never tried it before and was curious how it would work. Seems to work fairly well. The other pedals all adjusted their tempo from using the tap tempo on the H9. Though to be honest, I"m not sure how that tempo setting works with the DITTOX4 yet. I only see the light next to the stop button change it's flashing rate. So that one's a new mystery to explore.
Quite hard to use Arpanoid without tap tempo. It is pretty good as an octaver though.
Hi Janek, check the Bananana Tararira.
And yeh like the guy says, you've skipped a number ; ) maybe there's a special episode you're working on or something though, I don't want to rule out a hidden special or maybe just timing that special 200th!
Another well stuck together stream of information, keep it up and I'm sure you'll get that 100k and be choking on some proper espresso soon!
its a new pedal type. it will take new models to buff out the kinks.
they make such a hard switch because it's not something you wanna hear if you are giving a jazz solo (you can't accidentally press it)
Speaking of pedals, Juan Alderete has a CZcams channel called Pedals & Effects. Might be kinda cool if your vlog went over for a visit (he's in LA).
He did some videos there a few years ago.
They both mention each other many times in their vids. Janek did an amazing in depth interview with Juan a few years back where they many talk about a ton of effects pedals that Juan has strewn about a room. Definitely worth watching.
This one might be #198
#198?
They were the 2 albums..... Then there was Bitter...:-))
soft switches tend to break
heady duty switches dont
Get yourself a dispatch master!
The Adrenalinn pedal can do arpeggios but i'm not sure if they're programmable as i blew mine up before getting the chance to use it - oops.
you changed your ride to an A4! congrats
Most polyphonic devices don't make good arpeggiators
Hey janek !! i from gatineau ,ottawa , canada !!! I got friend of mine who build pedals fairfeildcircuitry.com you may find something cool for you !!
My band Nephilym has a new single on Spotify called "Could have been" would love to see you transcribe it. Any criticism is appreciated. Great vlog as always. I particularly liked the "shitty audio" warning lol
