- Unboxing and connecting my new drive. On the drive itself, there is a virtual CD-ROM drive that contains new SmartWare software. You can set the label with it, encrypt the content of the drive etc. Watch the video.

dats so cool dat they actually put in a disable vcd setting
First, I formatted the drive to NTFS. After doing that most important thing, I then started uploading files. Cheers! (WD My Book Elite 2TB)
@AboyAMS No, it has standard power adapter. If you want portable drive, buy WD Passport which is powered by USB port.
You are welcome.
@alterbyme Thanks. It does... as other 3,5" external harddisks.
@Petra1990191 no u can... WD SmartWare categories folders (pic, music, movies, doc, other) and backups only that, u can choose only category ... it sux....
i use Acronis insted
It behaves just like a standard disk drive. So you can copy files drag and drop. It's not necessary to use WD Smartware utility.
Hi, there are some differences between MyBook Elite and My Book 3.0. Elite has a front panel display and supports WD SmartWare software. So it is up to you to decide which one fits you.
I have seen WD site that essential edition(with LCD display) can only with MAC, not PC. The PC version has no LCD display.
