Sounds like an interesting alternative to Warhammer Fantasy / AoS for I really struggle with the lore. I also don´t like Games Workshops policy on miniatures. For example: I took a look at the Grand Alliance of Order book and choose to take some Glade Guards for my army. Now whole stuff is updated and in the Cities of Sigmar book there isn´t any Glade Guard. My 40 elven archers are now almost useless. Thank you GW.
That's a common issue with GW unfortunately, they make great quality miniatures, but they change all every time making miniatures useless and games dead (like Warhammer Fantasy) in a matter of a couple years. This game is a very good alternative to Age of Sigmar and there is also an alternative for WH40K, called Beyond the Gates of Antares. Those games and dice mechanics are wonderfull and very fun to play with.
As a fan of Bolt Action I was disappointed when trying Gates of Antares so it's interesting reviews state WoE tightens things up. On casualties - Bolt Action encourages use of terrain and cover to keep casualties down (and create more interesting tables) so I imagine more walls or blocking terrain can lead to games in which forces are less brittle and not breaking as fast. Good review and I will be keen to try this.
Thank you. Ya I played all my games with lots of terrain. I prefer busy tables generally. Shooting isn’t crazy in this but it’s certainly something you can’t ignore either.
You should check out the wargame SAGA, it has a new fantasy book/expansion coming out next month that adds in every fantasy faction you could think of and rules for use of magic etc. It has a very unique combat system with how it uses the custom dice combined with battle boards and I think has a bit more depth in terms of strategy and tactics than whats going on with this game.
I should also mention its the same as this game in that you don't have to use official specific miniatures, so if you already have existing miniatures from other games its a good way to get more mileage out of them!
Joel how the heck do you have the time/mental bandwidth to keep up with so many heavy lifestyle and campaign games? Besides this, there was Rangers of Shadow Deep last week, Blackstone Fortress before that, The Edge Dawnfall, all the various standalone GW boardgames, plus the old faves Age of Sigmar and Frostgrave! The painting alone would keep me occupied for a year or more (but I'm a super slow painter). Anyway, keep up the good work - can't wait to see whatever crunchy, mini-heavy combat game is coming next month :)
I read somewhere that rolling a 10 is always a failure, even with a resilience of 10 or higher. So if true, hopefully the zombies will have an easier time eating the whole mammoth!
warlords of erehwon just straight up great game....

Good review
More based on Gates of Antares than bolt action
Still fun
Can’t wait to play
Thanks. I’ll need to check that one out then.

Haha. Thanks John. To be fair I only played this four times so far, and just use the minis from Age of Sigmar. :)

Yep. Not sure if I mentioned it in the review, but that's exactly what happened in one game. :)
Keeping an eye on this... but the jury is still out.
First, and I like the intro great job, keep up the good work.!!!
Thanks :)
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this game vs Saga: Age of Magic
Not played Saga unfortunately.
Epic intro!
Interesting...
Is there a lore to the game at all? Does it have it's own world like the Warhammer World?
mny thks
Not even in the slightest :)
