  • From Season 2 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 20: Our Unsung Villains which aired on February 15th, 1956. The Slave in the Magic Mirror (voiced by Hans Conried) hosts this tribute to Disney's villains, for he claims that without them, no one would need heroes. Edited for content is the short, The Three Little Wolves (Silly Symphonies WD Treasures DVD tin), the Evil Queen segments from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Disney+), the Laughing Place scene from Song of the South (this film can be found in it's entirety on the Internet Archive) and lastly, Peter Pan's rescue of Tiger Lilly from the villainous Capt. Hook (Disney+).

Agreed. I used to have a 45 of "Zippity Do Da". It's a very upbeat song that we could use now, but oh no ...

Such nice work on The Magic Mirror.
This is the very first version of Disney's Halloween Treat.

I also like to think that this program was the first to establish the villains as something of a franchise.

I must admit, it's pretty shocking to see how this looked in black-and-white, after being so used to the color version, which I don't think this ever was until it was shown on the Disney Channel.

Wanted to say that this is a different version to the "Our Unsung Villains" I remember. This one must be the original.
The other version had color, the mirror part (except for Hans Conried's face) was animated or glass matted, and in color Hans Conried's face was painted green.

This is the original. You may be thinking of Disney’s Greatest Villains from 1977

Actually, no. That's not it. There is a different version of Our Unsung Villains. I remember having a VHS tape of it taped from TV in 1986.
You can even see the other version on "Disney Television Resource Channel" CZcams channel. It's still there, if you want to see it.

From looking up information on the Disney Channel Magazine, it appears that this was one of the very first episodes of the anthology series to be shown on the Disney Channel, having first aired in November of 1984 (the anthology series began airing in October).

I’m glad you are able to relive some great memories through this channel! I don’t really concern myself over what Walt would think of the company today. In my limited time left on this planet I focus on the things he left us and do my best to enjoy and share them, so as to keep his legacy alive!
