đšCLOSING FOREVERđš Splash Mountain Shut Down Date Annouced!
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 1. 12. 2022
- Walt Disney World has announced that their version of Splash Mountain will be closed forever starting on January 23, 2023, for its transformation into Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
In October, Disney filed a permit for construction at Splash Mountain.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure was first announced in 2020, but the name of the attraction and opening timeframe - late 2024 - were only announced this summer. More details about the new ride were revealed at D23 Expo 2022.
Alongside the closing announcement, Disney released new concept art for Tiana's Bayou Adventure featuring the princess and her alligator friend Louis.
The closing date for Splash Mountain at Disneyland Resort will be shared at a later time. The attractions at each park will be almost identical - the Disneyland version has a thinner track, and therefore smaller log flumes, which won't change.
In October, Disney filed a permit for construction at Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. The ride will be closed permanently starting on January 23, 2023. The new concept art features the double seats of the log flumes at Magic Kingdom. The Disneyland version of the ride only seats one person per row. More details will be announced about the closure of Splash Mountain at Disneyland later.
It does NOT need a re theme. It's perfect the way it is.
It does
Bro I love Splash Mountain. I donât want anymore of this princess BS.
I agree unfortunately as time passes less and less of Disneyâs audience know what the ride is a reference to and it was going to be torn down or rethemed Eventually

Fun fact: splash mountain characters are based on African American tradition and folktale, and have been characters in stories told from generation to generation
Exactly! These characters, while a few originating in design from the Disney film, do not in any way represent the negative portrayals that people are so riled up about. Its closure has essentially no positive outcome other than keeping the small group of people saying what isnât true. It isnât even a good idea from a corporate standpoint as it will only make crowds in both parks worse. Overall pointless.
@@dtcdragon7164 it 100% is the correct move from a corporate standpoint. Itâs their fiduciary responsibility to do whatâs best for the shareholders. If keeping it as is worked better in their situation than them changing it, it wouldnât get changed. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with a âsmall group of peopleâ. Disney did the analysis and came to that conclusion. The tides are changing. Iâd personally have liked to see it stay, but donât make it seem like Disney is just giving in to a tiny group of people. They made the change because it was best for their bottom line.
The audacityđđđđđđđđ
These characters have been through a lot
đą
Can't we just keep everything and paints the characters black
I think this is stupid from a business perspective. Splash mountain is one of the most well-known rides at Disney World. All the merchandising and that whole area of the park are going to have to be rebranded
And also more random ip shoved into the parks as opposed to the old stories that the rides have. Ik the story behind song of the south but it wouldnât be as big of a deal if Disney didnât make it a big deal
â@@LJSwizzyofficial the princess and the frog isn't a random IP
@@FearlessPenguin I could understand them changing it from a investors point of view.. but from the average person it's pretty dumb that they are changing it to a female only ride, Disney usually keeps some of there rides for all age groups and the 2 genders boy and girl, who knows it might be good though!
@@MOUNTAIN-098 what do you mean female only ride, it's just a ride. The movie isn't specifically a girl movie, the guy character also has conflict and resolution, the story just happens to be about your classic princess and frog story

Itâs an absolute crying shame that Splash mountain will be gone. Why is Disney removing something so nostalgic and iconic?! đą
Because they suck up to " crazy progress"
Splash Mountain is an iconic attraction that many of us grew up with. It will be greatly missed.
Itâs a real shame since this is a classic Disney ride and thereâs thousands of people trying to save it. But atleast they could keep the name. But ik what Disney is doing, the reason theyâre retheming the ride is because if they ever see people rallying or something by splash mountain there gonna crap like âoh god..â and there using race for money and a shield now which is un called for. But maybe there could be a miracle happen for splash mountain to come back. Also I feel like itâs lazy there retheming stuff instead of making it from scratch instead of ârethemingâ and they canât take away a classic attraction cause itâs not only the attraction thatâs gonna be gone, itâs our childhood thatâs gonna be gone with it. And Iâm trying to save it. Itâs ridiculous that sheâs getting a ride instead of a restaurant since that was her dream, so why canât they do that instead of this? Cause itâs to get money ofc.
This is my absolute favorite ride of all the parks. I will be crying when I go there in May. But Iâm gonna make sure I ride it like 20 times when Iâm at Disneyland next month.
They haven't announced Disneyland closure for this year
we're you able to ride before it closed ?
Crying? Are you a child or an adult?
Sad. Wish I could visit splash mountain one more time in Disney world/ Disney land before it closes
The last time i went it was closed foe refurbishment which means the last time i rode it was 2003 đ
@@aaronmerkel5216ikk, I just so happened to visit Disney world with all my little siblings and parents. My poor siblings were wondering why it was being changed. Ofc we didnât tell them why, but I felt bad bc I knew it was genuinely their favorite ride. To me, itâll ALWAYS be splash mountain. Idc what yâall think.
I won't ride it again. That's how I feel.
Splash mountain will be missedđą
They shouldâve kept the splash mountain name
Unfortunately since itâs based off a film from the 1940s Song of the South and they simply couldnât due to the actually film being very racist with the film making the black people look like they are having a blast with slavery it was founded to very racial since itâs opening in 1989 and since we are in different decade it just simply cannot hold up
@@SpawnFromTheStars Thatâs because no cared that much back in the those previous decades
@@mrgeeberswrong. The 1940âs film reinforced stereotypes; not racism. Both arenât good in 2022; but are completely different.
@@702trekker5 I understand that but it the film Song of the South is technically racist
@@mrgeebers nope. Not technically. The only one making it racist are those who want it to be.
Good bye to one of the greatest Water rides at Disneyland Splash mountain Thank you for all the memories
It's not closing forever. They're rebranding it to fit the newer movies since the current generation of children have never seen Song of the South. I grew up loving Uncle Remus, and have a large collection attributed to James Baskett. I just hope there's a plaque somewhere close to it that honors him for being the first Black Male to win an Oscar for his role as Uncle Remus.
did you know that when he won, he refused to go to the award ceremony because of the segregation laws that were in place at the time???
It's never going to be splash Mountain again. Yes, the same track will be there but it won't be the same. It's changing to black lives matter, "Tianas Bayou Adventure" you obviously don't know about it well
Biggest mistake in Disney park history, should just make a new ride so that everyone can be happy.
The Tiana ones supposed to be open early 2024. Theyâre using race as a shield to replace Splash Mountain that theyâve wanted to do for around 25 years. If they actually wanted to put something in to represent Tiana it would be another restaurant because, you know, it was kind of, almost, THE WHOLE POINT OF HER MOVIE!! For her at least, not for the prince.
Please ârace as a shieldâ what is Tiana to you exactly I want to know sheâs a Disney princess who doesnât have a ride while the rest do just say your racist
@@Rtp4k First, not all the Disney Princesses have rides. Rapzunel has bathrooms. Second, the original Briar Rabbit character is iconic because it actually stems from two different groups in Africa and was meant to teach slaves how to trick their masters. In many ways this can be seen as giving them hope to escape. Third, James Baskett was the first African-American actor to receive an academy award for his role in Song of the South. So I'd say Splash mountain has more ties to the black community than some black-washed German fairy tale.
@@loneeldritchknight7362 repunzuel has an attraction coming to Tokyo or paris so my point has been proven Tiana deserves a ride
@@Rtp4k Aurora, Cinderella, Mulan (not technically an actual Princess but tagged as one), Moana, Rapunzel, and Merida all donât have rides at WDW.
I donât think @John-alan Short is racist or trying to. In this GenZ American society, we all have to be PC these days. Song of the South is not a good look for Disney. No doubt about that. But the ride should be more movie applicable, like Fox and the Hound. Imagine this: Todd goes up the mountain (patrons going up the lift) to save Copper and then we all splash down the waterfall like in the movie.
PS. A Tiana restaurant is brilliant! Creole and soul food in Adventure land?! Um, yes please!!!
@@loneeldritchknight7362 and Tiana ainât a German fairy tale LMAO sheâs literally the only American princess in New Orleans
Why are you doing this to me Tiana! WHY! After all the love I gave you, you close the attraction that preserves the animatronics of America Sings! Because, why!!!
America Sings was my absolute favorite and must every time we went as kids.
Very sad about this closure! So glad that we visited last week and that this was the final ride for us. There was no line so the cast members let us stay on and keeping riding.
Hate the new name. Why not just keep the most iconic name in a park ever?
They always have to make something about a movie and never care about the classics
8 months later I realize Splash Mountain movie based.
My point still stands.
Nobody watches, princess, and the frog, and weâve all grown up a splash Mountain do not change it
I love Princess and the Frog, but seriously?! This is my favorite ride at Disney! They canât do this đą
I feel like they are going to make it smaller or have less animatronics
So, technically it will be a new ride but not⊠They are changing the theme but it will be the same layout at drops etc, so if your worried about the ride becoming less thrill then donât worry, but if your worried about the animatronics and the rides experience then yeah, thatâs different.
Tower of terror was my favorite ride too and I love guardians 10x more. Sometimes change is good đ€·đœââïž

it might be cool to have a Tiana ride, but like come on:( splash mountain was original, I loved splash mountain:(((
One of my best Disney memories was on this ride. It was my daughter's 10th birthday. We rode this ride last. Just as the doors opened for the final part of the ride, we saw the fireworks bursting. She thought they were for her. Epic dad moment! I'll miss this ride like all the others that have been replaced/ reimagined, but will be looking forward to what they have planned for Tiana. As Walt said, "you can't stop progress".
I do not like the reasons they're closing Splash Mountain ( pushing "the message" ) but I do try to welcome new attractions. Sometimes they turn out better such as Guardians of the Galaxy replacing ToT at DCA. The problem I can't get past is that this new ride will take place AFTER Dr. Facilier is dead. I mean, if that ride doesn't have "I've got frieeeeends, on the oooother SIDE!" playing at some point, what's the point? Tiana and Naveen aren't exactly a bundle of charisma. Maybe the alligator can carry this ride?
Lift must be friends on the other side or itâs worthless

Hopefully they will change their mind
In honestly, disney is making the one of the greatest mistake ever closing splash mountain. In support of splash mountain, I will refuse to ride the new water ride in magic kingdom. I hope others will jon me. Let prove to them that they make a great mistake
For those of you donât know, Splash Mountain is based of the Movie âSong of the Southâ. It takes place in the post civil war era. The movie is controversial because it pictures a stereotypical African American as being to cheery. They are closing the ride because a small percent of the US thinks it is racist because the main character is black and is to Happy during the post civil war era.
I think there is absolutely no reason for splash mountain to disappear, I had a lot of memories on this ride growing upđ I canât deal with it changing Iâm going to cryđ
Momma says if I can't say nothing nice jus keep my lip zipped
Same here and i have alot to say regarding the bs Disney is doing all together to appease cancel culture..they have already lost millions of dollars if they continue in this path they could find themselves losing disney all together...every empire falls sooner or later
I can't help but say things about the stupidity being perpetrated in this country anymore.
This is what you get when you let the patients run the asylum. đ€Ș
If you are going to close one of the best rides ever, at least make something REALLY exciting and cool
My absolute favorite ride there! That's the end of the nostalgic "song of the south" movie
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I LOVE THAT RIDE!!!! Don't close it!!!!
To anyone who is sad itâs very likely they will leave memento somewhere in the ride
Like in Mr Toads Wild Ride? ...not the same. đ
Disney is so stupid for this. I am so mad and sadđą
For everyone wondering why they closed it, itâs because the animatronics were so old, they often malfunctioned.
I donât think that was it. I think it was because Disney considers âsong of the southâ to be racist. However, I would argue this statement however, I would personally watch the movie and formulate your own opinions to try and not Ben controlling.
This is Literally the saddest thing that's ever happened

I still ask...how in the heck can a ride or attraction be racist? Disney's going to close this ride for 2 or 3 years...and for what? Still on the flip-side; when it reopens...it will be awesome, shiny and new!
Bingo. Itâs not racist. It represents a film that used stereotypesâŠwhich over time are no longer accepted as norm. Values and traditions changeâŠtruths donât.

@@michelleheadley4529The ride will feel extremely different. A ride simply isnât itâs track. Itâs the world it immerses you in. They are canceling that and NOT changing it to princess and the frog because it was one of Disney's most popular rides
Hereâs a crazy idea: If Universal Studios is already paying Disney to keep their Spider-Man and Simpsons rides (Along with other 20th Century Fox and Sony rides), then how âbout this:
Universal made a fully animated âThe Adventures of Brer Rabbitâ movie with an all black cast. If Disney wants to re-theme the ride, then how about re-theme it to that movie?
That way the customers keep the same characters/story despite the makeover, and itâll be fair if Universal and Disney pay each other for their share of each otherâs properties. And also so Disney will be less likely to be seen as a greedy corporation.
We love u splash mountain!!!
I donât really like the idea of closing the mountain. Though a Princess and the Frog ride sounds amazing, it can never replace Splash Mountain. Goodbye forever, Splash Mountain.
Splash Mountain was the first thrill ride I ever went on at Disney World. I know the new ride is gonna be the same layout but it wonât be the same regardless.
BOOOOO... did they ask the people, spending the hundreds to go to their park, if they were interested in remaking history into something that makes no sense?
I honestly think that they should have done like a Rapunzel ride or Moana. I think this because Princess and the frog is not as popular as these movies and they deserve a ride too.
As the name seems to be one of the biggest problems with people that don't like change, as the ride will stay basically the same only but with an updated theme, Why not call it " Tiana's Splash Mountain" win win
Splash Mountain is epic. And replace it with a boring virtually unknown Disney character is just stupid. Nobody will ever be excited about Tianas bayou. A loser before it even opens
Princess and the Frog was released in 2009. That was 15 years ago. Since then, not ONE PARK has anything in relation to the movie other than having Tiana and Naveen as a princess and prince in the parks. Which says ALOT about Disney. This movie was a historic moment in time and broke boundries. It is beloved by so many people of all races and ages. Its deserves a ride. And having it replace a ride with a horrible racist background is an honor and more steps forward to closing that chapter in our fucked up history. So cry in your nostalgia all you want. Its getting changed and you cant do anything about it. đ€·đ»ââïž
Personally that is my all time favorite ride at Disney so I am sad but I hope that the princess and the frog ride is going to be even better than splash mountain
btw they said at the disney convention it will open during 2025

Even though Iâve never been on splash mountain, I regret the chance of not taking the chance when I could. Especially when I had the annual pass at 6 years old. Splash mountain seems really classic and iconic. Itâs just a bummer I was scared to ride it. Now Tianaâs bayou adventure just looks bland when I compare the POVâs. Since I live in cali, im waiting for it to open since Tianaâs is still in progress.
But maybe Tianaâs bayou adventure will be better in cali. Iâm not sure. But Iâm still excited one way or another.
Splash Mountain is NOT GONE, just kicked out but found refuge in Universal Studios.
