  • Here are the basics of setting up your profile for a BGA reworking machine.
Remember: Each time you get a time down for a certain temperature, you have to cycle the machine (let it completely cool) before you start on the next step of the profile.

You saved me so much frustration. Thank you for explaining everything. This is my first time using a BGA Rework Station and I couldn't use it until now. Now that I understand I can get started.

Yes! I was so excited when I found your video. It took me awhile to find a how to video that was recorded in English and this one told me exactly what I needed to know. I wanted to learn how to set and use the top heater and how to use the programmer to set it with. I'm so grateful for this video. Thank you! I look forward to your experience with the Xbox slims as well because I also repair Xboxes and other game systems.

your video is very good, and well thought out...you explain in depth, not like a lot of
other video's where they just play music

Thanks dude id be lost without this video it all makes sense now !!! time to create a profile or 2
its a shame you have to cycle each temp to achieve profile especially if your only doing a one off board :)
    thanks for posting from OZ

Great video! Precise and well spoken. You mentioned some ir rework stations need different lower heater values for preheating. I could use some help if you do not mind. My set up is Ly Dark IR 9000. 1000w lower elstien max 900c. Upper 250w dark IR. Question, I'm not lifting chips, I believe it's the lower temp not getting the upper pcb temp above 70c even with my lower temp at 360c and a soak time of 600 seconds. The thermocouple is resting correctly on the lower dark IR heater plate. The PCB is 30mm above the lower heater glass plate. Upper heater is 15+ mm above the pcb. And I'm running a typical profile, but without your final higher profile settings of above 250c. Thank you.

Thank you sir. I just got the machine and doing rework with loaded profile. After watching this video I would start setting my own profile.
One more thing I would like to share is that , graphics chips with glass on it broken when the top hot air temperature reaches to 255 . After that I made changes to the built in profile and kept bottom heater upto 260 and top hot air heater at 240. This solves the problem.

I use the same settings for a PHAT Xbox 360 and it works great. Yes, definitely remove the heat spreader. Makes life a while lot easier. Use a razor blade and cut carefully around the edges of the heat spreader and it will eventually pull off. I'll have a video on that soon. :) Thank you for the comment.

  • @JonnyGuns
    @JonnyGuns  Před 11 lety

Your comment is understood for someone that already knows what they're doing with rework machines. This video is for the complete newcomer. That being said, you would agree with me that if you didn't know how to do any of this, you'd appreciate the extra time spend going over it a couple times.

I set a profile in my IR6000 (with enlarged bottom heater) for X360 board as You in the video and it works fine but I have to set bottom heater to 370 degrees because bottom thermocouple is attached directly to the bottom center ceramic element. When I seto to 222 degrees board heats up just to 90 degrees.

Tried to get the board to 180c by the IR heater and it never past the 80c, I pushed it to 300c but the board didenr got over the 80c for some reason, I tested the thermocouple and it reads fine..also 230c for 8 minutes didn’t do nothing to the chip...confuse! Its zm-r720 and a macbook pro 2011 - 216-0810005 chip

Great vid Jonny. Only thing I'll add is do not buy a profile! People out there are charging upwards of $100 for a profile that won't work. There's no shortcuts and you must create your own!

I use the machine's built-in support. After I found out how to use it properly, that was all I needed. I would recommend a PCB support though. Can never go wrong with keeping that board flat :)

your videos are great brother!! Ive been having a really difficult time cooking boards and getting extremely frustrated with this whole process!!! I just realized my lower fans are not turning off and the lower temp is not what the register says it is. its much hotter hence why ive BBQ'D soo many!!! will the lower fans staying on cause the heating elements to get hotter?? I would think it would be cooler but thats not what I have happening.

You could actually make one that would work best for you, by following the guide in the video. I'd recommend going over to BGAmods dot c0m. You'd probably find/get an idea of what you'd be looking for - profile-wise. :)
