  • New Sprinter conversion vans can cost between $100k to $200k. Bean Trailers range from $24k to $60k. With this pricing in mind you could purchase a nice tow vehicle with Bean and still be under the price of a conversion van. Vans are easier to maneuver and find parking spots but you can detach your Bean once on site and free up your vehicle to explore. Going the trailer route you can stay under budget and have a comfortable vehicle as your daily driver instead of a cargo van.

    11:11 yep! that's the key trailer advantage for us: you don't have to tear down your camp if you want to make a supply run, go to town for a nice dinner, etc.

    I work at an RV Park and I can vouch for the fact that a lot of people find it to be a pain to break down camp to go for a supply run. In fact, I can tell where the camper vans were because they tend to leave their lawn chairs and extension cords out while they run their errands. One thought my wife and I had was, if the van's motor or transmission has an issue, you're screwed. If the same applies to the tow vehicle, you can rent a vehicle to move your trailer. For me, I'd be leaning towards a small trailer like the Bean.

    I love both of the options and I think that both can be the right answer. We still love our 2021 Mean Bean. If Black Bean was an option when we built ours there is a good chance I would have made the push for that. Our Bean fits in our garage with the iKamper installed with less than a half an inch to spare. It is so nice to keep in our 3 car garage and out of the elements when we are not working. Having a basecamp is the other thing we prefer, and leaving the Bean all packed and ready to go. When we head out it is as simple as hitching up, filling the water tank and heading out.

    The biggest problem I see with a bean camper is they don’t have interior living space to move around. I have been using roof top tents like Alu Cab with 270 awnings in bad rain storms for a few days straight and you have nowhere to go, no living space. The bean feels like that same situation, where do you go when it rains, just sit in the little camper. Also we have a child and a dog so that’s why we bought a toy hauler under 28 feet. We can set it up somewhere and then go explore in our fancy touring truck with 33 inch tires and a mits alloy tray and canopy. We can go drive in the backcountry and camp in the tents or go day exploring and go back to the toy hauler. I take my tenere 700 with us and if the weather gets bad the dog can still run around with the baby and we can have our own spaces. The idea of “ overlanding” is over done, we don’t live in Australia or Africa so off road travel is very limited and almost everything is pavement or just gravel. You don’t need all this crap people try and sell. I wish bean would give us a trailer to try out for a few months so we can share the real difference

      So where are you going to do in a rv if it's a bad weather? You will still sit inside and move in the 2x6 walking path. Your comment is pathetic. Unhook the bean and use your car as well.

    Honestly, you could convert a pro.Master cargo van for a lot less! And you can actually just buy a power station and hook it up . Plus when you're finished with a conversion nine chances out of ten you still will be much less than this teardrop camper. Also I ended up buying a 10 x10 canopy tent to set up outside and I cook outside.

    One day I'm gonna have both too! I'm getting (2023) a cargo van and building only some bare necessities... bed, shower, toilet, water, solar, A/C, desk & chairs. I already own a pickup and would enjoy back country camping in a bean. I'd also like a custom shelter attachment to the Bean to cook and 'hang out" in inclement weather. 😉

  • @mingo0817
    @mingo0817 Před rokem +1

    The bean is pretty awesome. But it’s hard to beat the storage in a van. The whole area under the platform bed is a mini garage. Not just the two cabinets on both sides of the “garage.” A van can also tow a jeep, or small trailers with an ATV or side by side behind it.

    • @mark-di5pf
      @mark-di5pf Před rokem

      There are definitely some pros to to the van and those are some good points. The storage under the bed vs the storage in the tow vehicle is a matter of preference. Van towing a Bean. Now that is a party!

    Biggest drawback to my overland trailer is I almost never feel comfortable to tow it on winter/snowy roads (especially to ski resorts.) I thought I would ski out of it a lot, but only use it about 2-3 times Mid November - Mid April. While vans litter ski parking lots… I’m saving up a bit and planning on selling the tow vehicle and trailer in place for a van so I can use it more than 1/2 of the year.

      Most people bring along a travel bag and store their essentials in the drawers, cubbies, or other storage areas depending on the trip length.
      As for changing, many people opt in for the 23Zero annex or the 23Zero awning with walls to create more privacy space.

    You picked a crappy van to compare. Get a van that has 12kw battery, 5kw inverter, 1.6 kw solar, fully off grid capable, air conditioning, hydronic heating comfortable four seasons, Tv, microwave, isotherm fridge and freezer, indoor shower, bench sofa, and true 4wd with locking front and rear differentials and 37 inch tires with lifts, rock guards, skid plate, winch it would be as capable as a jeep wrangler with an comfortable partment in the back. Plus you can tow toys canoe, kayak, atv, motorcycle mb has a 5k towing capacity. It can tow your little trailer easy.

    The van is better. Who wants to cook in the rain, snow, and wind. I am sorry to say, but the Bean is not practical. The van is more comfortable. You gotta be on crystal meth thinking the Bean is a better choice.

    • @mark-di5pf
      @mark-di5pf Před rokem +3

      Exactly, Crystal meth is more affordable. Bean owners cant afford that high grade pure Colombian blow that the van lifer's can. We have to crack pipe smoke out in the cold and rain while the van owners get to snort lines in the interior on beautiful butcher block counters.

    • @mark-di5pf
      @mark-di5pf Před rokem +1

      Is it "shady" to promote the advantages of your product over an alternative? I thought that was marketing. Is it "shady" to point out that a conversion van can be 3 to 4 times the cost of a teardrop trailer or is that a fact? How about the fact that a van will never go where a Bean will go with the right tow vehicle? ( I own them both and that is a fact) It would be questionable to not point out that the van has its advantages over a trailer depending on your needs. The video points that out. Would it be shady for a van conversion company to emphasis their advantages over a trailer in a comparison video?

      @@mnfishing4194 for grilling I’d have to agree. We pack mainly meat that we’ve pre-cooked at home, so not a lot of smoke. It can be hard to keep a stove working properly outside on a windy day. Also, many places in the Colorado mountains have flies that we’d prefer to not be around.
