  • The German National anthem played here on a Victorian music box made in 1868.
Composed by Joseph Haydn in 1797, it was the national anthem of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until its break up in 1918. It was adopted by Germany in 1922 and is still the national anthem to this day.

Music was written by Haydn, lyrics by Haschka, as a God Save the King-type anthem (“Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser") for Kaiser Franz II, Holy Roman Emperor, first performed 1797 in Vienna. Later known as the Kaiserhymn.
Numerous adaptations for other purposes the most famous being the appropriation of the tune for the liberal-nationalist Deutschlandlied in 1841.

there was no Germany back then, gott erhalte gott beschutze was anthem of the Austrian empire. In 1842, Deutschlandlied was written on the hymne of the gott erhalte gott beshutze. This anthem was created to increase the pan-german nationalistic feelings among germans for the creation of a german state including Austria (Austria is ethnically german). Austria and Germany were the same, Austria was a part of germany and was assumed to be the leader of the Germans.

Germany used this tune as its national anthem starting in 1919, so if this was composed before 1919 then I'm sure this was the national anthem of the Austro-Hungarian empire
