    Great episode Guru!
I'm totally there with you on a few things: first off You're So Vain is awesome I've always liked the FP version of that song. And on that note I've always thought one of the bands that really grew into their sophomore album was FP on Wake Me When It's Over. I've replaced that cd twice in my collection it gets played that much. Just a bunch of weird garage sleeze metal and nearly every track on that album is completely different sounding.
I also agree on Johnny B Goode by Priest. Ram It Down is such a killer album - very heavy and Glenn's guitar tone is just so compressed and distorted. I actually go back and forth between liking Ram It Down more than Painkiller sometimes.
A few cover songs I really enjoy from that era are: No More Mr. Nice Guy (Megadeth), Hang on St. Christopher (BulletBoys), and Motley's version of Tonight (originally by The Rasperries).
When it comes to more modern metal covers I've always thought Deadsy's version of Tom Sawyer was so heavy and so cool. I just crank that one so loud when I listen to it. Go check it out man!
Keep the episodes coming, and keep rockin!

    Great episode as always!
Ryan is influenced by Scott, Neil, Polly and Elliot but pulls off sounding like Tim Skold from Shotgun Messiah. And that’s a damn good thing.
    Some I’d ad:
No Matter What - Lillian Axe (shocked that didn’t make either list)
Game of War - Shake City
Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers - Tesla
Can You Feel It - Rikki Rocket
Stay With Me - Def Leppard with Phil Collin singing.
    Mrs Robinvon - Kik Tracee
There is more but I’ll stop now…

I love a good cover. I have an extensive playlist on Spotify of covers. I left off most of the famous covers because I'm burnt out on a lot of them. I'll throw some of my faves out here.
    Babylon (New York Dolls)----Shotgun Messiah
25 or 6 to 4 (Chicago)----Vince Neil (bonus track on import versions of Exposed,)
    Squeeze Box (The Who)----Roxy Blue
Tears of a Clown (Smokey Robinson)----Enuff ZNuff
Shy Boy (Talas)----David Lee Roth (kind of a cheat since Billy Sheehan was in Talas)
The next 2 aren't, strictly speaking, bands but I think these covers still qualify-
Wild Thing (The Troggs)----Sam Kineson (C.C. DeVille on guitar)
Runaway (Del Shannon)----Luis Cardinas (his debut album is an overlooked hair metal gem)
Great show, as usual. KInda surprised "The She Kissed Me" and "Leader of the Pack" didn't make the cut. JUST KIDDING!!!! LOL

Once again, I see the thumbnail and instantly write down my list and just start crossing them off as you say them. I stayed away from songs on cover albums that bands put out and stuck to tracks on original albums and b-sides from the “cassingle” days. No particular order, Kik Tracee - Mrs Robinson (Simon & Garfunkel) , White Lion - Radar Love (Golden Earring) , Sweet F.A. - Momma Told Me Not To Come (Three Dog Night) , Stryper - Shining Star (Earth Wind & Fire) , Warrant - We Will Rock You (Queen) , Slamming Gladys - Piece Of My Heart (Janis Joplin) , Black Robot - Cocaine (Eric Clapton) , Mr. Big - 30 Days In The Hole (Humble Pie) and lastly a trifecta from Tesla - Games People Play (Joe South) , Cotton Fields (CCR) and Children’s Heritage (Bloodrock). I’m pretty sure all of these are right here on CZcams

Awesome episode and great picks all, specially Johnny B Goode who doesn’t get the love from hardcore Priest fans. Staying in the movies wheelhouse, I personally love Poison’s Rock And Roll All Night from Less Than Zero and GnR’s Knocking On Heaven’s Door from Days of Thunder (cleaner and shorter version than the one on Use Your Illusion II)

@ Ryan: The singer for SHY - "Welcome to the madhouse" was *Jon Wardi Ward* . Lee Small came about 13 years later to the band...
@HairMetalGuru: Not wanting to correct you, but that SHY album came out (here) in Europe as SHY as usual and only in the US as *SHY (England)* because some other band had the name copyrighted before them. That album "Misspent youth" had a terrible sound, one of the worst ever, I never could get over it, especially since those two songs mentioned are really great.
Seriously, what the hell were MCA thinking releasing it like this?!? (That what I am saying is for the record in Europe released as SHY! The "Shy England" version you are talking about has a (much) better sound and the songs are reorchestrated!)
This needs to be said since I guess you ( in America) are not aware of the two different versions of this record.

You all might hate this band, and a lot of people do...Stryper, in 2010 or so they did a cover tribute album called "The Covering" for a Christian Metal band, they covered a lot of bands on it.

The lyrics on those first 3 Krokus albums are so cringy. Seriously go read the lyrics to just the first 2 albums and try not to laugh lol. Just the song Mr. 69 would make Steel Panther seem serious lol. Smelly Nelly and Mad Racket are hilarious to. Love this show by the way. It’s right up my alley👍🏼

You are thinking about 4, 5 and 6th albums. The first Krokus album was in 1976, kinda proggy. Their 2nd album was called For You All and their 3rd album was Painkiller/ Pay It In Metal. Those albums were not that good. Chris Von Rohr sang, played bass and even drums.

Watching this made me realize that I really dislike cover songs for the most part. Some absolutely phenomenal albums were mentioned here, but I thought the covers were the weakest tracks on them. In particular - 'Shy' "Welcome to the Madhouse" and 'Shark Island' "Law of the Order".

  • @lowdz68
    @lowdz68 Před 4 měsíci

Shy did a much better cover - Cliff Richard's Devil Woman. Do you know Cliff in the US? He was the UK's version of Elvis (without any of the danger) and has had hits in every decade since the 50s I think. Anyway, this was a great cover of a decent song.
Misspent Youth had an awful production that essentially killed the band. They were on the verge and this album killed them.
