I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing about wishing these didn’t have shimmers! I thought I completely disagreed since I loved Spyglass, but these didn’t wow me.. def still cute, I’m curious to see how often future crushed holos will have shimmers vs not though 😅
I like the crushed holo formula of the browns in the barista collection & Spyglass had a nice blue micro shimmer, but for this new Rock Candy collection, I didn't like that the color Pink was the dominate pigment or refracted color glow effect in every single polish. Also the color tone is similar enough to the Lite Mode Collection, which I barely liked half those colors, so I just think none of the polishes just wasn't for me, & that's ok. Plus, I already own a huge amount of Holo Taco, & I never get every color of a collection anyway, I rather have a backup of formulas & colors I like. So I see it as this new set is for another demographic of Holo Taco customers, maybe the next collection will appeal to me.
I both agree and disagree. I Love the color shifty-ness but I’d rather have the option to add shimmer? I don’t feel like spy glass had the same beautiful depth of the regular crushed holos. I can stare at orbite me, Berry me in Holo or any of the barista bundle for hours just taking in the depth they have. But spyglass just doesn’t give me that same endlessly layered feel. Idk. 😅
I find the HT shimmers kinda lackluster. I guess I'm used to the indie scene where shimmers are punchy. They either need to put in more shimmer or leave it out completely.
Even without the comparisons, the shimmer looks so blah. Usually cameras tend to make shimmers look extra bright and saturated, so I can only imagine just how dull they probably were irl. The colors and formula was cute, and the box is so fun!
yeah it’s a shame how subtle the shimmers are in these, maybe bc the bases are deeper/more pigmented? I feel like you really only catch it in very direct light, but at least the crushed holo bases are super sparkly! and omg yes the box is too cute!!

You’re a magician getting this review out so fast!! It’s so handy having your vids with all the comparisons coming out so fast, especially with being in Australia. It’s a lot of $$ after conversion rates to spend on something I might already have an exact dupe for. I had all the same feels as you about this collection-and I think your swatches have helped me feel content about not purchasing this release. I prefer the original crushed formula with no shimmer, the shimmers throw the colours off too much for me I think. Thanks again for being so awesome and speedy with your reviews-it’s appreciated 🥰
I am also in Aus and agree totally, especially now that we have to pay 10% taxes on top of HT orders as well it is getting too expensive to buy unless I LOVE it!

Thanks for your quick turnaround! I did purchase all but the orange and green. I really like the crushed holo formula! I agree that sometimes HT shades fall a little flat. Cool Cat Mom is a good example of this. It should be breathtaking, but when I tried it, it was just meh. When I removed it, I noticed that the base looked to be almost like a blackened or desaturated blue instead of a bolder, more brilliant blue base. I don’t know if it is a brand strategy or just the artistic direction, but I feel like HT rarely goes out on a limb or makes artistically risky choices and consequently, their collections seldom make me gasp. I feel like they make safe choices and nice formulas, but I want this brand to commit more fully to making eye-popping gorgeous polishes - which we know they CAN do. By the way, your comparisons have convinced me that I need a few of the Cirque and ILNP shades that you showed!
Of course!! 🫶🏼 and ahh yes I ended up feeling the same with CCM! 😓 It didn’t have the dimension I was expecting it to have.. but have also heard others describe it as desaturated (or muddy lol). I do agree that Holo Taco’s catalogue doesn’t have the same breadth that other indies do & they seem to play it safer.. i also feel like they’re just behind when it comes to finishes, and so once they try something new it’s just hard to get excited when it’s a more simple version of stuff we’ve seen before 😅 I’m def still curious to see what future crushed holos will look like! And I’m glad you enjoyed some of those comparison shades!! I’m so glad I’m not the only one that was a bit disappointed with cool cat mom. I LOVED it in the promos and website photos so much I bought two right away. Got it and I think I’ve worn it all of 3 times? It’s just Not as bold or vibrant magnetic stripe as I thought it would be 🥲
Thanks for such a fast upload!!! This is a collection that I am going to skip on. I am pretty bored with rainbow colours (though the dark rainbow collection was interesting), since I’m more into more unique colours/shades. Just a personal preference. I actually do like the shimmers, since it provided a nice contrast to the colours. But I wanted the shimmer to be even MORE obvious to keep the polish interesting. Ultimately most of the shades just don’t grab my attention - the only one that I though was cute was Blue Rizzler, but it’s a bit similar to ILNP Pool Party and I prefer the latter on your nail. 😅

I haven't felt the same wow for their rainbow lineup since their pastel collection. I do like Sugar Rush, but I'm leaning towards supporting other brands cus I'm only in this for 1-2 polishes and the collection box itself. Thank you for swatching these on such short notice!
I won't be picking up them, but it was hard to resist. I love the theme, color story, vibes, creativity and Cristine is so fun to watch and I am not at all in critique of her or HT. However, Your comparisons really helped me so much feel better about not buying. I think I could get better shimmer performance, better Holo performance and brighter colors from other brands (some of which I already have! Yay). So I don't feel FOMO. i feel the same about the shimmers. i've seen other brands do glowier and showier shimmers, so these sadly come off as underwhelming to me. :( imo, where HT really shines is taking a bunch of their shades and combining them to a custom shade that you want (i literally have 12 HT toppers which might not be a lot to some but it is for me lol). but i had seen a lot of people criticizing HT for not doing a bunch of combination specialty finishes like other indies and getting a bunch of praise for last year's vacation collection for finally doing that. but i just find myself looking at them and thinking that other brands have done that already, and better. i feel bad cuz cristine probably feels like this is such mixed signals, but i'm probably in the minority of the HT customer base so i feel like she's gonna keep going down this route for the most part :/ anyway, thank you for the swatches and comparisons as always! no worries about the turn around time/less nail comparisons! please do what you think is best but w/o stress 😭
that really is a great point, how their whole appeal was being able to mix and match/layer their polishes etc.. I actually did like their Vacation collection and the mixed finishes, even though it wasn’t totally new to the market. I love HT and this collection, and your beautiful swatches just reconfirmed that! This was my first collection box purchase! I'm glad the colors are slightly different from previous releases because I usually won't buy a color I already have in multiple formulas. And Cristine put them over white and black in the live kind of creating an alternative pastel and dark rainbow.
This was my first collection box purchase too! I just kept dreaming of the gorgeous skittles I could make... Plus I absolutely love the shimmers in these!

I feel like it’s a common problem with HT where the studio lighting just doesn’t reflect normal life. Bat b*tch comes to mind - even though that one was meant to be ‘subtle’. Or even going so far back as double dare. The shimmers in HT are always a little disappointing to me. I’m glad I waited until your video to purchase. I might grab electric sweetener and blue rizzler eventually. There’s just other brands doing shimmers better 🤷♀️
oh yeah I remember people being superrr upset with Bat B*tch and Double Dare, funny enough i actually did like those two lol but I don’t think I was as on top of the teaser photos i have been lately.. Electric Sweetener is def super pretty and Blue Rizzler is lovely too, but yeah they don’t stand out as much as other brands 😅
I actually like having the shimmers be subtle sometimes! Punchy shimmers can be great too, but subtle is to me just as viable a choice in creating a unique effect. Same with Spyglass having a same-color shimmer rather than contrast; it’s another variable to play with. Holo Taco is kind of maximalist by default so to me it’s nice to see them opting for a hint of effect sometimes rather than the only option being going HAM lol! Impressive turnaround time! Appreciate the Pool Party comparison; that was my immediate thought but I’m surprised how clearly different they are!

I can’t believe you got this out so fast! Especially with a big collection! I feel like this collection had a lot of potential but just didn’t quite hit it, I’m always going to be team microshimmer in a polish but with people expecting the normal crushed holo formula and coming in with this surprise it would have been nice if those shimmers were really strong but they kind of just obscured the colors and made them read weird in a lot of lighting! Still ended up getting the funky yellorange one though 😂
honestly me neither LOL 🤣 but ugh yeah I couldn’t agree more! I do think maybe bc these were a bit more on the medium toned side the shimmers had a hard time standing out vs how it did with Spyglass? either way still looking forward to their future crushed holos! and I hope you like that one more than I did 😝

So glad to hear your take on these, and that I’m not the only one feeling a bit disappointed. I have loved all the previous crushed holo shades from HT and figured this drop was a no brainer hit, especially with the added shimmer. When the drop came I was just not in love the way I thought I’d be. I don’t care for the color tones and didn’t see the crushed holo being able to perform as well as it can with neutrals like the barista bundle. Plus the shimmers did seem a little lackluster, especially compared to how gorgeous Spyglass is. I just made my first Mooncat purchase during the lunar sale, and it’s almost like seeing how crazy those shimmers are impacted my expectation for the Rock Candy collection. I’m skipping, but I hope these polishes bring joy to those interested😊

This might be an uncommon opinion but im just a little tired of the "rainbow" collections from HT. I love their mixed color collections like the after party and space collections. Also thank you for all the comparisons, when a new collection comes out i always wait to see your videos!

If it was just a crushed holo formula, I probably wouldve picked up a few, but I hate the way the shimmer dulls the sparkle. Eh it's probably for the best, I dont need an excuse to buy more polish lol

@@PolishedYogi I think Spyglass works because the base is more pastel, so it doesn't feel like the holo, shimmer, and base of the polish are fighting for attention. I'm curious, does the crushed holo show up more in person?

I’ve been looking for other shades of green with pink shimmer like Ethel. Disappointed this one isn’t stronger. Wildflower Lacquer just put out a bright holo rainbow collection called jeweled. It will be back in July for anyone who missed it. Although even there I was wondering about just getting Night Owl’s collection for a better price. Both those brands offer 15 ml.
Well this comment section is a breath of fresh air. I can’t share an honest opinion on a Holotaco collection under the HT posts without getting attacked for it. I understand being protective of a creator. But there’s no reason to rip people apart for politely giving an opinion?! All feed back from paying customers is good for business?? Anyways. Thank you for this safe place to be honest lol. I do wish this collection was just straight up crushed holo. I could add any color shimmer on top later if I wanted it but could have that gorgeous crushed holo all by itself! Comparing spyglass to previous just crushed Holo polishes, I just feel like the shimmer hides the beautiful depth of the crushed holo 😢 I still bought the box set because I’m an addict at this point, and have regretted not buying other box sets before so 😅

I love Blushed Ice but don’t care for Berry me in Holo- doesn’t have the same effect so I’m holding off on these. Surprisingly the yellows orangey gold is my favorite so I’ll pick this one up eventually ❤

As a major HT lover, I found myself waiting this time to see some reviews because I noticed the swatcher photos didn’t seem to capture the brightness I was seeing in yesterday’s stream. I’m still going to pick a few shades up but I’m going to forego the whole collection. I just don’t think I’ll wear/ enjoy the gold one (I know it’s supposed to be yellow). What I was happy to see though, is I don’t have these shades in my collection, and I really love the purple and pink. You also sold me on milky white shimmer somehow 😅. Thanks for the review!

This video is amazing!! The comparisons are incredible and also giving me skittle ideas! I loved these and picked them all up. I love the bright but a bit more subtleness of the colors. It’s not linear but not cremes. I also don’t mind the subtle shimmer either but I also love toppers so I’ll be playing around with all the contrasting colors.
I think they're all so pretty, but I'm just personally not into pink shimmers, and sadly so many of these have pink shimmer in them. I'm super duper into the purple though, and the yellowish
Thumbs up for burning the midnight oil for this video... I respect the hustle 😊 I personally love the understated look of the HT crushed holo formula, being holographic but not too in-your-face about it, more sophisticated. So when I first heard about the possibility of a rainbow-but-not-ROYGBIV crushed collection, I was hoping that they'd go for more sophisticated jewel tones, more elegant, more deep. I think that this might suit the formula better, like the sophisticated nature of the neutral-toned barista collection. But they went for candy instead lol 😅 It's okay. I'm still definitely interested in the blue one, and probably the white too, as I've been trying to warm up to whites more, and this one seems to have the right kind of unique sparkle for my taste. At any rate, crushed formula is around to stay, and I imagine that HT will get around to making more deeper sophisticated jewel tones eventually. Good work here, hope you get some rest today!!

Agree, I was a bit underwhelmed too. I def thought the shimmer glow would be stronger. Still like them tho. I was most surprised by Sugar Rush, was hesitant to get that one but its so gorgeous.
yeah like they’re still pretty when you aren’t comparing them to other polishes where the shimmer takes over! 😅 i’m glad you liked Sugar Rush though, maybe I’ll add some thinner to mine to make it a little smoother to work with 🤔

I was excited for these because I really like the crushed holo formula. When I saw the promos and the stream, I decided against buying these. The color story didn't hit for me, I don't see myself wearing any of these except for sugar rush. They're just too.... Primary maybe? I like the idea of shimmers, wish they were more obvious. I'm not sure what it is, but I was more excited about the box than the polished themselves. Not a good reason to spend almost $100 😅 I think they got a hot with the color choices for spyglass, and a lot of misses with the color choices here, whether in the base colors or in the selection of shimmer to pair with each.
omg yes the box is BEAUTIFUL lol! but it’s whats inside that counts 🙈 i agree though, I wonder if these in general were just too dark for the shimmers to really shine the way it did in spyglass, which had a much lighter base 🤔
Blue Rizzler is honestly the only one I may pick up... MAY pick up lol It's not a must have for me but it is pretty. What I couldn't pass up, however, was the Rogue Lacquer Psychedelic Slushies collection. My only complaint is that there aren't more colors haha I watched Rachel's video in the Rogue FB group and these polishes are sooooooo beautiful and versatile!! Can't wait to get them!! This was an easy skip for me. I’ve had Highest bidder, berry me in holo, and double dare and I just don’t like crushed holo; I find it so lackluster. I like that they added shimmer to this collection but that’s disappointing to hear the shimmer doesn’t stand out. The color palette on this one is just off somehow. Honestly I haven’t been excited about most of their releases for the last 1.5 years. They are pretty risk averse so getting something really unique is unlikely and with their scale of operations doing really unique polishes becomes challenging. That’s fine by me though, helps me save money and not overconsume polishes. You did a fantastic video though and I know it will be so helpful for many!
aw yeah i know a lot of people just don’t like crushed holo at all! I get it, it really is so subtle compared to linear holos or regular scattered holo.. and yeah definitely makes it challenging for them to make more unique polishes given their scale! but exactly, there’s soo many other options lol. but thank you soo much! 🤗
Great video! I was disappointed with the yellow. I was looking forward to a primary yellow instead of the golden version. Oh well, I picked them up anyway because I like all the other shades.
in a way i do like that they tried combining orange and yellow since their yellows usually miss the mark lol i def would love to see more true primary yellows from them, even if the color isn’t a best seller! i’m glad you liked the others though 😁

@@PolishedYogi its a pretty basic marketing truth that unsatisfied customers post more about products than satisfied customers do. That's not just a nail polish thing or a your videos thing. As far as the thumbnail, it clearly conveys that you didn't care for the collection overall, which is of course your right to have that opinion and to express it. However, someone who has already decided that they do like the collection or has bought it already is less likely to click through to watch and comment knowing that's the case. That’s the relevance. 🙂 I think you do a great job on your format and my comment wasn't a reflection on that at all.
Thank you so much for the upload, this really helped me appreciate what I already have! IMHO, I would have much rather seen these shades in the Frosted Metal formula rather than crushed holos. The FM formula is more unique to my collection, and I would have loved to see juicy colors with that finish. Cool seeing Cristine’s new take on a yellow-less rainbow. Also! My bf walked by during the swatches and loved Sunshine Crush! There’s love for yellow oranges after all! ☀️🧡
of course! and ooh yeah that would’ve been so cool, idk if they’ve confirmed this or not but I imagine they won’t be expanding their frosted metals since that finish doesn’t have a great shelf life :( Favourite Sister was a beauty and I would love to see other deeper or just more vibrant shades like you said, but that foily metallic finish unfortunately just tarnishes and looks so bad after a few years 😣 but yeah this was an interesting take for a rainbow!
After seeing some photos of June PPU I’m saving my polish $$ for that. I know I’m in the minority but I don’t get the hype over HT. Not that I have anything against them, they’re fine. There’s just to many others to choose from when you’re only buying a few and not collections.

I have an ILNP polish that looks like it might be even more similar to Blue Rizzler than Pool party, which also have, the one I think is closer is called Deep End. Would be neat if you were able to swat h those side by side.
i've heard that a good amount of people were disappointed by sunshine crush, on the contrary tho, i become more and more obsessed the more swatches i see LOL i wonder if they held back onn the shimmer to avoid losing the base hues? with spy glass the base was blue, so i could see why they'd really bring it, but idk a whole lot about formulation so
i’m glad you’re loving that one!! i might try layering it over an orange creme or something i just feel like the warm gold doesn’t suit me 🙈 and eh i think they should’ve added more especially since the bases in these are on the more opaque side, i actually think that’s whats ‘eating up’ some of the shimmer so it looks more subtle 🤔
I really appreciate your review. I'm kind of disappointed by these. I was hoping they'd be much closer to the barista crush holo formula. I don't think I like how they have added extra shimmers, and how they have taken this finish and expanded it out of that collection.
A few thoughts: 1. The box looks like Erin Condren’s “Kaleidoscope” pattern from several years ago. 2. I don’t love crushed holo - I would prefer to have a chunky holo glitter or a smooth linear holo, not the weird between. I feel like I just don’t get what I want from the crushed holo. 3. I think there was an opportunity to boost the color with a matching shimmer, but that was lost when they did contrasting shimmers. I am most disappointed in the green…but now I feel like I need mooncat plankton 😂
ugh i would loveeee a rainbow lineup in their classic glitter formula!! 😩 i highly doubt they would do it though since they release glitters in winter.. and yeah i think a matching shimmer would’ve been better too. i hope you pick up Plankton soon! i forgot how bright that one was 💚

I'm a little hesitant on this collection. Agree rainbow colors looks beautiful but the crush holo is kinda so so for me kind of flat or less sparkly to me. I love the chunk glitter the best or linear, etc, the ones that pop. And I also have mooncat that seem similar like your comparisons and antivenom i love. Maybe later I'll pick up 1 or 2 to see in real life. Green, blue and possible yellow/orange one interest me.
ahh yeah i totally get you, i prefer the slightly more subtle holo on these (but loveee a chunky glitter esp during the holidays!) but know that for those who loveee linear holos, this finish just isn’t enough 😩 they still are pretty and sparkly though, especially when NOT comparing them to other brands haha
Thanks for abother great video! I was let down as well because I was also expecting a true rainbow collection. Holo Taco is so good when it comes to micro glitter and crushed holo that I was expecting more of that. I also agree with your comment on the brightness of the shades because the teasers showed brighter colours, and the shimmers are also shy. I feel they tried to combine two finishes but did not fully reach the desired effect. In conclusion, I feel the same way you do. Maybe, it's a Libra thing 😂. They are pretty but not what was teased.
At the end of the day I don’t love crushed holo- I just don’t get it as a look. Is it basically scattered holo? If it were up to me I’d rather have a shifty shimmer no holo
Not really scattered, because the pigment is more of a smashed holo flake that ends up being more uniform in its spread, creating a kind of understated glow rather than a sparkle
i definitely do prefer shimmer over holo too 👀 but i can’t imagine HOLO taco would ever prioritize that lol. but yeah like @tabularasa said, there is a subtle difference where Crushed holo is NOT just scattered, but to be honest they do have a very similar effect to the naked eye 😅
When I saw the marketing I thought this collection would feature those crushed holo shards in a jelly base for that clear rock candy super shiny vibe. Kind of like the Cirque Colors gemstone series. Once holo taco started showing the leaks of the actual colors, then I knew I wasn't going to love the set. I actually love their crushed holo formula. For me the issue with this set was that the shimmers take over too much and drown out the holo and beauty of the shards. The polishes didn't line up with my idea of rock candy so it was like a pre-disappointment. They do perform well though so I'm not upset that I grabbed the set, plus sometimes the lacking in holo flash does make toppers come across better. So that is something I'm looking forward to trying.
aw yeah that would’ve been really nice if it was a different formula similar to Cirque’s gemstones, especially since they retired a lot of those shades! i’ve seen so many say they don’t love the shimmers for the same reason.. it makes me wonder how often they’ll release crushed holos with shimmer vs without, and if moving forward they’ll prioritize matching shimmers (like Spyglass) vs contrasting ones. but yeah they’re still fun shades for sure! i hope you enjoy wearing them :)
Crushed holo is my absolutely favourite formula from HT. I liked Spyglass, but the shimmers in this collection aren't in for me. I also absolutely love greens, but the yellow/orange shimmer kind of ruined it for me :(
aw i’m sorry!! i’m honestly shocked by how much i loved the green, the shimmer is pretty subtle at least but I know a lot of people would’ve just loved it if these didn’t have shimmer at all 😓
Thank you for all these comparisons - this was really helpful! I agree with you that the color hues just didn't quite hit. The green, which I was most excited for before I saw it, is too much of a primary, crayon green, and I don't like the pinkish shimmer within it.. And this may sound stupid but the crushed holo in these lacks the shiny, packed, slightly chunky visual texture I was expecting. Blue Rizzler actually turned out to be my favorite because of the pretty contrasting shimmer/base, and I will probably purchase it sometime in the future.
I totally get what you mean about the crushed holo sort of lacking depth in these, I wonder if its because the bases were a lot more pigmented than others?? like other crushed holos had a slightly more sheer, tinted base 🤔 Blue Rizzler is cute though, would love to know if you eventually grab that one :)

I've learned to wait for swatchers' photos and feedback before buying anything from Holo Taco. Unfortunately, their promo shots and footage are usually too misleading to justify the cost of the polishes.

Blue Rizzler reminded me of Mooncat Mercury's tears. I think it's kinda cool that HT is finally getting into these mixed finish formulas. On the other hand, I was really looking forward to more colours in the SUPER DENSE crushed holo formulas...

I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing about wishing these didn’t have shimmers! I thought I completely disagreed since I loved Spyglass, but these didn’t wow me.. def still cute, I’m curious to see how often future crushed holos will have shimmers vs not though 😅
I like the crushed holo formula of the browns in the barista collection & Spyglass had a nice blue micro shimmer, but for this new Rock Candy collection, I didn't like that the color Pink was the dominate pigment or refracted color glow effect in every single polish.
Also the color tone is similar enough to the Lite Mode Collection, which I barely liked half those colors, so I just think none of the polishes just wasn't for me, & that's ok.
Plus, I already own a huge amount of Holo Taco, & I never get every color of a collection anyway, I rather have a backup of formulas & colors I like. So I see it as this new set is for another demographic of Holo Taco customers, maybe the next collection will appeal to me.
I both agree and disagree. I Love the color shifty-ness but I’d rather have the option to add shimmer? I don’t feel like spy glass had the same beautiful depth of the regular crushed holos. I can stare at orbite me, Berry me in Holo or any of the barista bundle for hours just taking in the depth they have. But spyglass just doesn’t give me that same endlessly layered feel. Idk. 😅
I find the HT shimmers kinda lackluster. I guess I'm used to the indie scene where shimmers are punchy.
They either need to put in more shimmer or leave it out completely.

Even without the comparisons, the shimmer looks so blah. Usually cameras tend to make shimmers look extra bright and saturated, so I can only imagine just how dull they probably were irl. The colors and formula was cute, and the box is so fun!
yeah it’s a shame how subtle the shimmers are in these, maybe bc the bases are deeper/more pigmented? I feel like you really only catch it in very direct light, but at least the crushed holo bases are super sparkly! and omg yes the box is too cute!!

I had all the same feels as you about this collection-and I think your swatches have helped me feel content about not purchasing this release. I prefer the original crushed formula with no shimmer, the shimmers throw the colours off too much for me I think.

I agree that sometimes HT shades fall a little flat. Cool Cat Mom is a good example of this. It should be breathtaking, but when I tried it, it was just meh. When I removed it, I noticed that the base looked to be almost like a blackened or desaturated blue instead of a bolder, more brilliant blue base. I don’t know if it is a brand strategy or just the artistic direction, but I feel like HT rarely goes out on a limb or makes artistically risky choices and consequently, their collections seldom make me gasp. I feel like they make safe choices and nice formulas, but I want this brand to commit more fully to making eye-popping gorgeous polishes - which we know they CAN do.
By the way, your comparisons have convinced me that I need a few of the Cirque and ILNP shades that you showed!
Of course!! 🫶🏼 and ahh yes I ended up feeling the same with CCM! 😓 It didn’t have the dimension I was expecting it to have.. but have also heard others describe it as desaturated (or muddy lol).
I do agree that Holo Taco’s catalogue doesn’t have the same breadth that other indies do & they seem to play it safer.. i also feel like they’re just behind when it comes to finishes, and so once they try something new it’s just hard to get excited when it’s a more simple version of stuff we’ve seen before 😅 I’m def still curious to see what future crushed holos will look like!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that was a bit disappointed with cool cat mom. I LOVED it in the promos and website photos so much I bought two right away. Got it and I think I’ve worn it all of 3 times? It’s just Not as bold or vibrant magnetic stripe as I thought it would be 🥲

Thanks for such a fast upload!!! This is a collection that I am going to skip on. I am pretty bored with rainbow colours (though the dark rainbow collection was interesting), since I’m more into more unique colours/shades. Just a personal preference.
I actually do like the shimmers, since it provided a nice contrast to the colours. But I wanted the shimmer to be even MORE obvious to keep the polish interesting. Ultimately most of the shades just don’t grab my attention - the only one that I though was cute was Blue Rizzler, but it’s a bit similar to ILNP Pool Party and I prefer the latter on your nail. 😅

I won't be picking up them, but it was hard to resist. I love the theme, color story, vibes, creativity and Cristine is so fun to watch and I am not at all in critique of her or HT. However, Your comparisons really helped me so much feel better about not buying. I think I could get better shimmer performance, better Holo performance and brighter colors from other brands (some of which I already have! Yay). So I don't feel FOMO.

i feel the same about the shimmers. i've seen other brands do glowier and showier shimmers, so these sadly come off as underwhelming to me. :(
imo, where HT really shines is taking a bunch of their shades and combining them to a custom shade that you want (i literally have 12 HT toppers which might not be a lot to some but it is for me lol). but i had seen a lot of people criticizing HT for not doing a bunch of combination specialty finishes like other indies and getting a bunch of praise for last year's vacation collection for finally doing that. but i just find myself looking at them and thinking that other brands have done that already, and better. i feel bad cuz cristine probably feels like this is such mixed signals, but i'm probably in the minority of the HT customer base so i feel like she's gonna keep going down this route for the most part :/

I love HT and this collection, and your beautiful swatches just reconfirmed that! This was my first collection box purchase! I'm glad the colors are slightly different from previous releases because I usually won't buy a color I already have in multiple formulas. And Cristine put them over white and black in the live kind of creating an alternative pastel and dark rainbow.

I feel like it’s a common problem with HT where the studio lighting just doesn’t reflect normal life. Bat b*tch comes to mind - even though that one was meant to be ‘subtle’. Or even going so far back as double dare. The shimmers in HT are always a little disappointing to me. I’m glad I waited until your video to purchase. I might grab electric sweetener and blue rizzler eventually. There’s just other brands doing shimmers better 🤷♀️
Bat B*tch was so disappointing to me! I felt like they really misrepresented what it looks like in their photos and description too.
oh yeah I remember people being superrr upset with Bat B*tch and Double Dare, funny enough i actually did like those two lol but I don’t think I was as on top of the teaser photos i have been lately.. Electric Sweetener is def super pretty and Blue Rizzler is lovely too, but yeah they don’t stand out as much as other brands 😅
I actually like having the shimmers be subtle sometimes! Punchy shimmers can be great too, but subtle is to me just as viable a choice in creating a unique effect. Same with Spyglass having a same-color shimmer rather than contrast; it’s another variable to play with. Holo Taco is kind of maximalist by default so to me it’s nice to see them opting for a hint of effect sometimes rather than the only option being going HAM lol!

I feel like this collection had a lot of potential but just didn’t quite hit it, I’m always going to be team microshimmer in a polish but with people expecting the normal crushed holo formula and coming in with this surprise it would have been nice if those shimmers were really strong but they kind of just obscured the colors and made them read weird in a lot of lighting!
Still ended up getting the funky yellorange one though 😂

So glad to hear your take on these, and that I’m not the only one feeling a bit disappointed. I have loved all the previous crushed holo shades from HT and figured this drop was a no brainer hit, especially with the added shimmer.
When the drop came I was just not in love the way I thought I’d be. I don’t care for the color tones and didn’t see the crushed holo being able to perform as well as it can with neutrals like the barista bundle. Plus the shimmers did seem a little lackluster, especially compared to how gorgeous Spyglass is.
I just made my first Mooncat purchase during the lunar sale, and it’s almost like seeing how crazy those shimmers are impacted my expectation for the Rock Candy collection. I’m skipping, but I hope these polishes bring joy to those interested😊

This might be an uncommon opinion but im just a little tired of the "rainbow" collections from HT. I love their mixed color collections like the after party and space collections.
Also thank you for all the comparisons, when a new collection comes out i always wait to see your videos!
You’re not alone, at some point it does feel elementary both in creativity and a sense of maturity, and this is coming from someone who loves rainbows!
I so prefer the collections with mixed formulas too! The same formula just copied into a rainbow variety of colors doesn’t excite me as much.

If it was just a crushed holo formula, I probably wouldve picked up a few, but I hate the way the shimmer dulls the sparkle. Eh it's probably for the best, I dont need an excuse to buy more polish lol
I definitely get what you mean, I don’t remember if people said the same about Spyglass but I generally really liked that one so figured other colors wouldn’t look so dull.. but yes the plus side is that your wallet is safe lol!
@@PolishedYogi I think Spyglass works because the base is more pastel, so it doesn't feel like the holo, shimmer, and base of the polish are fighting for attention.

I’ve been looking for other shades of green with pink shimmer like Ethel. Disappointed this one isn’t stronger. Wildflower Lacquer just put out a bright holo rainbow collection called jeweled. It will be back in July for anyone who missed it. Although even there I was wondering about just getting Night Owl’s collection for a better price. Both those brands offer 15 ml.
oh yeah I saw some swatches of that collection, its super stunning! and yeah WFL and NOL are great for the price per ml too

Well this comment section is a breath of fresh air. I can’t share an honest opinion on a Holotaco collection under the HT posts without getting attacked for it. I do wish this collection was just straight up crushed holo. I could add any color shimmer on top later if I wanted it but could have that gorgeous crushed holo all by itself! Comparing spyglass to previous just crushed Holo polishes, I just feel like the shimmer hides the beautiful depth of the crushed holo 😢 I still bought the box set because I’m an addict at this point, and have regretted not buying other box sets before so 😅

I love Blushed Ice but don’t care for Berry me in Holo- doesn’t have the same effect so I’m holding off on these. Surprisingly the yellows orangey gold is my favorite so I’ll pick this one up eventually ❤

As a major HT lover, I found myself waiting this time to see some reviews because I noticed the swatcher photos didn’t seem to capture the brightness I was seeing in yesterday’s stream. I’m still going to pick a few shades up but I’m going to forego the whole collection. I just don’t think I’ll wear/ enjoy the gold one (I know it’s supposed to be yellow). What I was happy to see though, is I don’t have these shades in my collection, and I really love the purple and pink. You also sold me on milky white shimmer somehow 😅. Thanks for the review!

I loved these and picked them all up. I love the bright but a bit more subtleness of the colors. It’s not linear but not cremes. I also don’t mind the subtle shimmer either but I also love toppers so I’ll be playing around with all the contrasting colors.

Thumbs up for burning the midnight oil for this video... I respect the hustle 😊 I personally love the understated look of the HT crushed holo formula, being holographic but not too in-your-face about it, more sophisticated. So when I first heard about the possibility of a rainbow-but-not-ROYGBIV crushed collection, I was hoping that they'd go for more sophisticated jewel tones, more elegant, more deep. I think that this might suit the formula better, like the sophisticated nature of the neutral-toned barista collection. But they went for candy instead lol 😅 It's okay. I'm still definitely interested in the blue one, and probably the white too, as I've been trying to warm up to whites more, and this one seems to have the right kind of unique sparkle for my taste. At any rate, crushed formula is around to stay, and I imagine that HT will get around to making more deeper sophisticated jewel tones eventually. Good work here, hope you get some rest today!!

Agree, I was a bit underwhelmed too. I def thought the shimmer glow would be stronger. Still like them tho. I was most surprised by Sugar Rush, was hesitant to get that one but its so gorgeous.
yeah like they’re still pretty when you aren’t comparing them to other polishes where the shimmer takes over! 😅 i’m glad you liked Sugar Rush though, maybe I’ll add some thinner to mine to make it a little smoother to work with 🤔

I was excited for these because I really like the crushed holo formula. When I saw the promos and the stream, I decided against buying these. The color story didn't hit for me, I don't see myself wearing any of these except for sugar rush. They're just too.... Primary maybe? I like the idea of shimmers, wish they were more obvious. I'm not sure what it is, but I was more excited about the box than the polished themselves. Not a good reason to spend almost $100 😅 I think they got a hot with the color choices for spyglass, and a lot of misses with the color choices here, whether in the base colors or in the selection of shimmer to pair with each.
omg yes the box is BEAUTIFUL lol! but it’s whats inside that counts 🙈 i agree though, I wonder if these in general were just too dark for the shimmers to really shine the way it did in spyglass, which had a much lighter base 🤔
A little too Crayola for my taste. You can see how good the formula is but disappointed in the color choices. A hard pass for me.

Blue Rizzler is honestly the only one I may pick up... MAY pick up lol It's not a must have for me but it is pretty. What I couldn't pass up, however, was the Rogue Lacquer Psychedelic Slushies collection. My only complaint is that there aren't more colors haha I watched Rachel's video in the Rogue FB group and these polishes are sooooooo beautiful and versatile!! Can't wait to get them!! i'm so mixed on these and can't really articulate why. honestly don't know whether i'll be picking all of them up especially since the box probably won't still be around by the time i can afford it. i'll probably grab the yellow, green, blue and white eventually but this is definitely a collection that i just feel kinda meh about overall even though i love the box and general candy vibes

I think part of the reason they didn’t do a bright rainbow collection like how you were expecting was that people would’ve said it looks too similar to the og rainbow collection. This was an easy skip for me. I’ve had Highest bidder, berry me in holo, and double dare and I just don’t like crushed holo; I find it so lackluster. I like that they added shimmer to this collection but that’s disappointing to hear the shimmer doesn’t stand out. The color palette on this one is just off somehow. Honestly I haven’t been excited about most of their releases for the last 1.5 years. They are pretty risk averse so getting something really unique is unlikely and with their scale of operations doing really unique polishes becomes challenging. That’s fine by me though, helps me save money and not overconsume polishes.

aw yeah i know a lot of people just don’t like crushed holo at all! I get it, it really is so subtle compared to linear holos or regular scattered holo.. and yeah definitely makes it challenging for them to make more unique polishes given their scale! but exactly, there’s soo many other options lol. but thank you soo much! 🤗

Great video! I was disappointed with the yellow. I was looking forward to a primary yellow instead of the golden version. Oh well, I picked them up anyway because I like all the other shades.
in a way i do like that they tried combining orange and yellow since their yellows usually miss the mark lol i def would love to see more true primary yellows from them, even if the color isn’t a best seller! i’m glad you liked the others though 😁
Very quick review! Awesome! I like the pinks and purple shades but feel I have colors similar already. Lately I’m just not into bright colors 🤷🏼♀️ so I’m not really interested in the other shades. Halo Taco does great polish but I’m not sure I’ll pick up any of these. 😕

@@PolishedYogi its a pretty basic marketing truth that unsatisfied customers post more about products than satisfied customers do. That's not just a nail polish thing or a your videos thing. As far as the thumbnail, it clearly conveys that you didn't care for the collection overall, which is of course your right to have that opinion and to express it. However, someone who has already decided that they do like the collection or has bought it already is less likely to click through to watch and comment knowing that's the case. That’s the relevance. 🙂 I think you do a great job on your format and my comment wasn't a reflection on that at all.
Thank you so much for the upload, this really helped me appreciate what I already have! IMHO, I would have much rather seen these shades in the Frosted Metal formula rather than crushed holos. The FM formula is more unique to my collection, and I would have loved to see juicy colors with that finish. Cool seeing Cristine’s new take on a yellow-less rainbow. Also! My bf walked by during the swatches and loved Sunshine Crush! There’s love for yellow oranges after all! ☀️🧡
of course! and ooh yeah that would’ve been so cool, idk if they’ve confirmed this or not but I imagine they won’t be expanding their frosted metals since that finish doesn’t have a great shelf life :( Favourite Sister was a beauty and I would love to see other deeper or just more vibrant shades like you said, but that foily metallic finish unfortunately just tarnishes and looks so bad after a few years 😣 but yeah this was an interesting take for a rainbow!
After seeing some photos of June PPU I’m saving my polish $$ for that. I know I’m in the minority but I don’t get the hype over HT. Not that I have anything against them, they’re fine. There’s just to many others to choose from when you’re only buying a few and not collections.

I have an ILNP polish that looks like it might be even more similar to Blue Rizzler than Pool party, which also have, the one I think is closer is called Deep End. Would be neat if you were able to swat h those side by side.

i wonder if they held back onn the shimmer to avoid losing the base hues? with spy glass the base was blue, so i could see why they'd really bring it, but idk a whole lot about formulation so

A few thoughts:
1. The box looks like Erin Condren’s “Kaleidoscope” pattern from several years ago.
2. I don’t love crushed holo - I would prefer to have a chunky holo glitter or a smooth linear holo, not the weird between. I feel like I just don’t get what I want from the crushed holo.
3. I think there was an opportunity to boost the color with a matching shimmer, but that was lost when they did contrasting shimmers. I am most disappointed in the green…but now I feel like I need mooncat plankton 😂
ugh i would loveeee a rainbow lineup in their classic glitter formula!! 😩 i highly doubt they would do it though since they release glitters in winter.. and yeah i think a matching shimmer would’ve been better too. i hope you pick up Plankton soon! i forgot how bright that one was 💚

I'm a little hesitant on this collection. Agree rainbow colors looks beautiful but the crush holo is kinda so so for me kind of flat or less sparkly to me. I love the chunk glitter the best or linear, etc, the ones that pop. And I also have mooncat that seem similar like your comparisons and antivenom i love. Maybe later I'll pick up 1 or 2 to see in real life. Green, blue and possible yellow/orange one interest me.

Thanks for abother great video! I was let down as well because I was also expecting a true rainbow collection. Holo Taco is so good when it comes to micro glitter and crushed holo that I was expecting more of that. I also agree with your comment on the brightness of the shades because the teasers showed brighter colours, and the shimmers are also shy. I feel they tried to combine two finishes but did not fully reach the desired effect. In conclusion, I feel the same way you do. Maybe, it's a Libra thing 😂. They are pretty but not what was teased.

At the end of the day I don’t love crushed holo- I just don’t get it as a look. Is it basically scattered holo? If it were up to me I’d rather have a shifty shimmer no holo
Not really scattered, because the pigment is more of a smashed holo flake that ends up being more uniform in its spread, creating a kind of understated glow rather than a sparkle
i definitely do prefer shimmer over holo too 👀 but i can’t imagine HOLO taco would ever prioritize that lol. but yeah like @tabularasa said, there is a subtle difference where Crushed holo is NOT just scattered, but to be honest they do have a very similar effect to the naked eye 😅
When I saw the marketing I thought this collection would feature those crushed holo shards in a jelly base for that clear rock candy super shiny vibe. Kind of like the Cirque Colors gemstone series. Once holo taco started showing the leaks of the actual colors, then I knew I wasn't going to love the set. I actually love their crushed holo formula. For me the issue with this set was that the shimmers take over too much and drown out the holo and beauty of the shards. The polishes didn't line up with my idea of rock candy so it was like a pre-disappointment. They do perform well though so I'm not upset that I grabbed the set, plus sometimes the lacking in holo flash does make toppers come across better. So that is something I'm looking forward to trying.
aw yeah that would’ve been really nice if it was a different formula similar to Cirque’s gemstones, especially since they retired a lot of those shades! i’ve seen so many say they don’t love the shimmers for the same reason.. it makes me wonder how often they’ll release crushed holos with shimmer vs without, and if moving forward they’ll prioritize matching shimmers (like Spyglass) vs contrasting ones. but yeah they’re still fun shades for sure! i hope you enjoy wearing them :)
Crushed holo is my absolutely favourite formula from HT. I liked Spyglass, but the shimmers in this collection aren't in for me. I also absolutely love greens, but the yellow/orange shimmer kind of ruined it for me :(

Thank you for all these comparisons - this was really helpful! I agree with you that the color hues just didn't quite hit. The green, which I was most excited for before I saw it, is too much of a primary, crayon green, and I don't like the pinkish shimmer within it.. And this may sound stupid but the crushed holo in these lacks the shiny, packed, slightly chunky visual texture I was expecting. Blue Rizzler actually turned out to be my favorite because of the pretty contrasting shimmer/base, and I will probably purchase it sometime in the future.

I've learned to wait for swatchers' photos and feedback before buying anything from Holo Taco. Unfortunately, their promo shots and footage are usually too misleading to justify the cost of the polishes.
yeah its a shame i’ve been feeling the same way lol 🙈 i think the other swatchers on the website do accurately capture the polishes at least, its just Cristine’s initial teaser shots that have been a bit misleading for me 😬

I think it's kinda cool that HT is finally getting into these mixed finish formulas.
On the other hand, I was really looking forward to more colours in the SUPER DENSE crushed holo formulas...
I shared that comparison in my IG stories!! it’ll be saved to my highlight in case you miss it, they definitely look more similar in the bottle than on the nail though so no need to worry about dupes 😅 yeah i actually have been liking their mixed finish formulas! I found the last several collections a lot more fun/creative than what they were doing the previous years so I hope we continue to see more of that. i’m sorry these didn’t quite hit the mark for you though, i’m curious how future crushed holos will look
