Just remember the most important summoning tool of all : quick access to their statistics so you can run it quickly in combat.
That’s why when I was making a summoning character based around elementals I made a series of tabs based on CR on my computer.

My favorite way to use zombies is not to attack things, but make them grapple all their targets on the field and then drop down a Cloudkill in the middle of it that my zombies are immune to.
I can definitely attest to the action economy power of these items, when I gave my party of level 3s going through a module but a single Cloak of Snakes, and the wizard spent every bonus action during the BBEG fight just summoning snakes until everything perished under their poisonous might.
The BBEG of the campaign? Died to Giant Poisonous Snakes?
wand of orcus, horn of valhalla and staff of the snake are excelent magic items for necromancers.
Better yet, get your DM to let you reflavor the bag of tricks and horn fornundead.

Everytime I hear a "Summon" my brain keep expecting to hear "Once per turn"
These aren't normal summons. They're all from effects.
@@azuredragoon2054 yeah but a lot of special summons have a hard once per turn to prevent them from being absolutely broken
@@Jdvalentine13 The reference was closer to the rule in Yugioh that a player is only allowed one normal summon per turn. Even if an individual special summon effect can only be used once per turn, it doesn't just stop you from using any other special summoning effects.

I personally enjoy the Hat of Vermin just because it's such a low rarity item but a free rat has a lot of funny uses.

Nope, guess that may be it, you may have to homebrew the solution if neither of those work.
Top 10 Things Most Often Banned In DnD.
Example: Flying.
Would only be reasonable to ban from Tier 1 play. All further tiers it's perfectly reasonable
I always pick the Air elemental since they can fly, thats a big deal to me, what is the fire elemental going to do against a flying creature with ranged attacks? and it has 90 ft fly so it can catch up to dragons (all dragons only have a 80 ft fly speed)
Also, I think the elephant one is not as good since you can just buy an elephant for 200 GP and don't need a rare magic item which is very difficult to come by.
2 things with the elephant. 1: There's prices for explosives and guns in the DMG, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to buy them in any game. Same with Elephants. 2: If you do manage to buy one, that doesn't mean you can get it to attack with you, or even listen to you.
If your DM handwaves the availability of elephants and lets you control it perfectly with almost no restrictions, then sure it is better. But at that point almost all the summon items are useless if your DM is that lenient with letting you get any animals you want to fight alongside you.
@@TheDDLogs Fair enough, Also I think you should put uncommons at the top and legendaries at the back since uncommons are easier to get your hands on.
@@TheDDLogs The other thing I like about air elemental is it can fly and so it can carry your character. But all the elementals have advantages.
I still think that the CR0 creatures from the Bag of Tricks could come in handy, maybe not in the combat departament but they could bring some utility. At least the Jackal has some utility with his keen hearing and smell and the baboon does have thumbs, they could arguably manuever some simple objects
I wonder if the newest book, Fizban's Treasury of Dragon's was taken into account. Within is the Gold Canary Figurine, a figurine that can become an Adult Gold Dragon under certain conditions. While it is a legendary item, having an Adult Gold Dragon as an ally, even if only for an hour, is going to be SUPER good.

Bag of trick doesn't require attunement where staff of pythons does. 500gp per item. You can have 10 of them for the same cost as 1 rare magic item.
I had a Evil Necromancer called Grenlo, and his goal (after the world was dominated) was to get every evil book or scroll and create an evil candlekeep. You better bet he got that scroll of summoning tarrasque. That was a fun thing to pull out
Not sure where else to ask you this, but where do you get your templates for your monsters, and do they come with such a nice black template to customize your own creature?
Ironically if you are on a different plane, such as the Abyss, you can capture humans with the Iron flask.

There is a better use for the wand of orcus, summon 5 mummy lords to fight for you. They are CR15 and 10th level casters, and they also know animate dead. If they spend all their spells slot summoning zombies or skeletons you can raise your number of undead much higher than that. And you have still 5 powerfull undead with you, so this is a big win
