- I'm convinced that Dick was seriously aroused by Bette's legs. Memo to the commentator who posted a comment about this clip: The reason your comment isn't here is because it appeared with the out-of-sync version of this clip. And I deleted the out-of-sync version. This version is a new in-sync version.
She was a very down to earth , straightforward Hollywood legend with a great sense of humor 👍
She loved him, it’s quite clear. Not romantically, but all of her interviews with him, she just chatters away. She was a magnificent, grand lady. And she let him bring out the best in her.
bette was genuinely one of a kind, such a professional. even when people came for her, she was unbothered. such a talent.
Dick Cavett was the best interviewers of all time and this is a cute interview - I've never seen Bette Davis so relaxed.
He was and this is not just a cute interview. Itis the best interview EVER!
Dick Cavett was slimy self-promoter
Bette Davis was wonderful...anyone notice her accent was toned down? Well maybe not her accent so much but her manner of speaking.
I was so fortunate to have known her in Westport, CT.
She frequented my restaurant for many years.
How I envy you.
You had a restaurant and Bette Davis as a customer??? Just: WOW!
"No, dahling No. We were never on the floor. I haven't been on the floor in years."
LMAO. She's a hoot.
This is a legend. Plain and simple.
pro trick : watch movies on Flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
I loved Betty Davis ♥
@@MollyTheGreat10 Betty? Sometimes I forget everyone's under 25 on these boards.
@@akrenwinkle I don't understand what you are talking about. If you are referring to me, I'm over 50 .
Bette Davis was as good an interviewee as she was an actress. What a ferocious woman!
Omg now there is the queen of Hollywood! A star! And how humble. Love her 💖
The Queen of Hollywood will always be Joan Crawford. Davis hated the whole Hollywood scene and precisely in this interview she makes it clear. Joan earned that title. But Bette was fantastic but she didn't want to belong to the royalty of fame, although she was.
She was never humble, but she knew how to project.
@@gilliankew Agreed. You can't deal with the Warner Brothers, Bette Davis, Miriam Hopkins, and on and on by being humble.
Bette Davis is so intelligent, honest and quite funny. She
was so at ease here. And, Dick Cavett remains one of the
all time greater interviewers. This is a treat.
What a great woman. Love Bette Davis.
Best interview he did. shes so relaxed.
LOL well didn't you see why?? she was drinking scotch and soda, which she revealed when she thought the camera was shut off in one of the other Dick Cavett interviews.
Cavett was a wonderful interviewer, he asked interesting questions and then let the guest have the floor.
Cavett is so sorely missed. We just won't have another like him again, unfortunately. Even at the height of his popularity, he was far too genteel for your average U.S audience; your joe schmoes standing in a wheat field in Kansas somewhere who think that anybody with a hint of an education or refined behavior is suspicious. It's unfortunate that these people never really understood his mix of play and seriousness; and that made them miss the fact that he was also uproariously funny. The Australian journalist, Clive James, told of his favorite Cavett moment: "Cavett was being loomed over by a luscious six-foot blonde. Sheltering under her magnificent bosom, Cavett addressed the audience. "Allow me to present," he said, "Admiral Harvey Q. Beeswanger USN, master of disguise.""
I agree on all the first part....and the last part, FUNNY....and soooo Cavett! ;D
One of the great interviews by any Hollywood Movie Star........ she is so funny, intelligent and frank. And so completely relaxed and dare i say sexy.
you could wear her outfit today without looking the slightest bit dated
Ha! I thought the same thing as well. Boy did I enjoy this interview...it is so good to see how humorous and honest she was in this interview.
I think i could listen to Bette all day and night, she is mesmerizing! They don't make stars like this anymore
She would put today's "stars" to shame, very natural and no big fat ego.
She's very open, very articulate & fiercely intelligent. I can also imagine she'd be great company.
I love Bette so much. I love the way at television interviews, she acts so casual and relaxed, she goes on stage like she is paying a visit to a friends house, 'You want to interview me? you take me as I am or dont bother' Such a genuine talented woman. Truley nobody like that now. Bette was unique.
I adore how like a young girl she was sometimes. When she blurts out, "I KNEW IT!" and laughs, it was so CUTE! Considering her reputation of old, this is a wonderful testament to what she could be like in other times.
Totally agree! I love her sweet and child-like fun side. :)
any time I see "Bette Davis talks..." I have to click. I love how blunt and open she was about things.
I went to her gravesite on what would have been her 100th birthday, her friends had put a bucket of white roses out with a note saying that each visiting fan could take one. Very few roses were gone at the end of the day, very few fans stopped by. So sad to see the great stars of the great era being forgotten now.
Honestly I’m an enormous fan, and I know she’s an Aries but I don’t keep track of birthdays because it’s never been something I retain easily. I think many people are like me. That’s sweet that you went and that her friends left flowers. I’ll stop by there one day. She used to answer all the letters I wrote to her when I was high school. She sent thoughtful answers that showed she’d read the letters through, each one. It really touched me. I saved them. She was a very unusual movie, rare in talent and in character.
Can’t edit my typos:
She was a very unusual movie star.
I love her laugh! She makes me laugh, she just has such a charming personality. God, I would love to have talked to her about so many things. I'm not a professional talk show host though so I wouldn't know where to start or what to ask. I'd just listen to her very intently about her vast array of knowledge and experience of life and work. The woman is just brilliant! There aren't enough words in the english language to describe how much I love, respect and appreciate Bette Davis.
such a fascinating woman
she is really great,,and he is so natural...lovely interview
Bette Davis was a kick! A true legend!
I love her laugh, she is spectacular. I absolutely love her. I'm a 19 year old guy and i just think she's beautiful on this show. She's glowing!
She's fascinating.
fabulous lady...the way she talks and that laugh..i so miss her...
You didn't eat your din din.
LOL!!!! LOVE IT!
Safe Nabors Now someone else is gonna eat ya Christmas pudding!
Whatever happened to baby Jane great movie
Geez, I wish Bette were still alive. I could listen to her all day, she was quite the lady.
Her LAUGH❤️
It’s always special when celebrities relate personally to their hosts. Doesn’t happen very often; Cavett was one of the best. Gentle and persuasive - never really butts in, kids around and goes for a laugh.
This fell into my feed after seeing watching Louella Parsons on What's My Line from 1953. I didn't know who Parsons but she struck me as quite a slippery type....not surprised to hear Davis vouch for how well she dug around for her articles.
Bette Davis. Check her out when she gets up at the end. What a style! Don't mess with that lady.
Bette even complimented her on how hard Louella worked to get them lol I also love her outlook its a business its not personal. Too many celebrities complain about the media and to an extent they are entitled to privacy but it also pisses me off the ones who court the media you can't have it both ways
So refreshing and real and funny. Truly a different generation. We are very lucky to have these Dick Cavett interviews.
So eloquent and regal in the way she talks, I agree with the above comment, I never tire of hearing her speak!
She was A WOMAN! And Dick really let her talk and be herself. Enjoyable.
Actually... she may be the Most UNIQUE and FASCINATING actor I have ever seen.
One of the greatest Actresses of all time
Didn't Ms. Davis have the best laugh?
most definitely!
direfranchement Yes,she did !
A hearty laugh...like she meant it!
Smashing on ever level!
Wow! I didn't know these existed. I was so fortunate to have known Miss Davis in Westport, CT in the 70s and early 80s before she became ill. There will never be another like her!
Grande por siempre Bette Davis.
I watch a lot of movies and love a lot of actors and actresses but Bette Davis is a true diva! Some of her movies are some of my favorites. She's the reason I love the TCM channel and black and white movies. LONG LIVE BETTE DAVIS and All About Eve and The Letter are two of my favorites of hers.
She was so sharply intelligent. One in a million.
I love Betty Davis, she was so coool! they dont make actresses like her anymore
I could listen to her all day.
Bette was right about Louella Parsons, who was one hell of a reporter. I used to think it was a pity she wasted her gifts on showbiz gossip and plugola instead of covering wars or politics, but now I am less sure.
Wars and politics we have always with us, but there was only one Golden Age of Hollywood... and there is no better way to grab its atmosphere than by soaking yourself in Lolly's columns. They may seem trivial individually, but they are like fragments of a great mosaic, mural or tapestry: an accumulating picture of America's greatest collective artistic achievement. If only some Mistress Quickly with a fluent quill had left a similar chronicle of theater in England c. 1600, for the lowdown on Dick Burbage, Kit Marlowe and Will Shaxper.
Beautiful Beautiful Bette Davis. Funny, honest, sexy, and a real human being.
I love Miss Davis . No one can replace her
there will never be another Bette Davis. She truly was a one-of-a-kind Legend and a woman who knew that she was nothing more than a woman. We saw the star and she saw herself as Just Another Woman what's a career. I believe with all of her challenges she lived a far happier life than Joan Crawford who is so obsessed with her looks and her Fame
Bette Davis told you what she thought not what you wanted to hear. She was honest when it was not fashionable to do so. I love her! I wear a pinkie ring in her honour and it reminds me to be me always!
she's flirting with him... so cute
She should have done more comedy. She was a natural.
BETTE DAVIS YOU ARE GREAT NOW AND FOR EVER !!
Bette was remarkably gracious and lovely and real in this interview. Contrast that with Katharine Hepburn on this same show. Quite a difference.
Hepburn's public persona was fake from top to bottom...Davis was relatable..and a much better actress
what a wonderful warm witty lady so frank and unguarded. They really dont make em like this anymore.
(Think she had the hots for him with out a doubt)
Great post.
Her laugh gets me every time - it's so infectious! A lot like Liza Minnelli's laugh, it's fabulous!
THAT, ladies and gentlemen, IS A STAR!
Loved her laugh, they were both great conversationalists, I shouldn't say were really as I think he's still alive.
Wow. Just wow.
I
i couldn't have put that better myself nobiggie90!
truly glorious indeed! x
Enchanting woman ... a true lady!
Bette Davis - OMG.
We're all amazed.
Cavett has no peers today. He was a listener. When needed, he could steer a conversation headed for the rocks into a full sail joyous dialogue. Refer to Harrison or Brando interviews. He was an esteemed host and worthy of Davis and others compliments.
She was wonderful!!!! So classy and talented.
They do not make movie stars like this any more.
I am glad that i was alive when she was alibe and i estvhed this show when it aired.
It was a fantastic time! ☮️💟
One of a kind actress!
Someone should forward this clip to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
A great artist. After all these years, her performances hold up. And in her prime, no one was better. No one.
I'd have a glass of scotch too if I were being interviewed.
Wonderful and interesting woman, not just the foremost dramatic actress of our time but the most talent survivor Hollywood ever produced.
I just love Bette
Bette comes out in fur coat, hat & handbag! Such class back then! She used that coat, (throwing it off & asking for water), to emphasize what happened with Gone With the Wind! It made the story that much better!! Which made her fabulous! ✨
Turn to today’s actors on talk shows. Some show up in a tee shirt and jeans. Everything is scripted. The host mentions a hobby or event.. and off the actor goes with a well planned out story. How do we know this? Because they tell the Same stories on all 3 -4 night time talk shows!
One of the Greatest of All Times...Bette Davis! hard for anyone to come close...although Kathrine Hepburn was very good as well.
Bette Davis..We love you.
She looks really good, and she's working those boots. Nice!
she loved the bloke interviewing her! this is a great interview she a ledgend!
4 people are JOAN CRAWFORD fans lol - How can anyone dislike this? lol
Her laugh is contagious!
Thanks for these gorgeous videos. It's refreshing to watch somebody so funny and intelligent. I've just worked with a very old actress from Austria who also had this behaviour being old, witty and sexy. Maybe that's a quality that only emerges in a certain age.
Rick brought out the Best in Better. I've never seen her so gracious
terrific interview. man, they had fun
adore her... I could watch her all day as well... THE BEST
She so cool!! Love her laught too!
This was great, even though it was just a short clip. I'm currently listening to an audiobook written by Ms. Davis and if only half of it is true (I don't know one way or t'other), I'm finding it quite riveting. She had a most powerful mom who went to the mat for BD--she would do just about anything to encourage her daughter to follow her dreams, including making many sacrifices which she took as her responsibility to her daughter. But, Ms, Davis made it quite clear she wasn't your so-called typical stage mother trying to live the daughter's life. Still, she was always there to help whenever and however she could.
I love her glasses...she looks great here.
Thank you so much for these wonderful archives.
Cavett was such a gentleman
@jcali619 I agree, when you have a strong work ethic and strive for perfection you come across to others as being too straigth and prepared to say it as it is and not suffer fools gladly.
I love how down to earth she is in this clip!
And then it would be 1 o'clock in the morning, a little news, a sermonette, and then the National Anthem. Then the station would sign off for the night (in most places. In the big cities they would probably run "The Late Late Show"). It was quieter back then.
And where I lived they aired "High Flight."
gmaureen What is "High Flight",gmaureen?
gmaureen
I remember that! on my Zenith B&W tv....
And the quietness is something I miss in the world.
Agreed!
"I haven't been on the floor in many years." LOL.
no one could bow like bette davis. that, if not the other 101 things, makes her a certifiable star.
Oh god, do I love her! She is sooo funny when she laughs! So humble!
She's so cool
THERE IS NO ONE LIKE BETTE DAVIS EVER. LOVE her out fit. So cool and edgy.
Bette was (is) the best film actress of all time.
Thnx so very much for posting these vids.I am so impressed with your comments from this entire interview. I couldn't agree more with all of you. Interviews today are plain ridiculous and are not worth our viewing. Maybe its because in the 'Golden Age' actors were not exposed 24-7 therefore it was such a thrill when we were fortunate enough to see their work on screen or latenight movies. Aren't we lucky to have the old studio movies to appreciate and enjoy!Thank God for TCM & Silverscreen.
Oh wonderful Bette. Just love her.
Bette Davis was one of the best
no darling, we weren't on the floor...
Ms Davis is Internal. The Finest
