    You should make change counting forward from the amount of the sale to the amount tendered (what the customer gave you) with the LEAST amount of coins and/or bills possible. In this example you would give 3 pennies ($3.55), 2 dimes ($3.75), 1 quarter ($4) and one $1 bill to make $5.00. Counting back to the customer would be (I'm handing the change to the customer counting from $3.52 to 5): "That was $3.52 out of $5? Here's 3.53, 3.54, 3.55, 3.65, 3.75, $4 and $5."

    @ladysybaris Před 11 lety +13

    Was there a reason you weren't trying to get to the nearest quarter-dollar? Fewer coins.
    3.52 + 3 pennies = $3.55
    3.55 + 2 dimes = $3.75
    3.75 + 1 quarter = $4.00
    4.00 + 1 dollar = $5.00

    You always give back as few coins as necessary. Using this method you'll run out of nickel and dimes. 48cents is 1 quarter 2 dimes 3 pennies. Money math comes second nature to me and I've spent 16yrs on a job where I gave out change without the use of a register or calculator. Starting out just look at the change part and know how much more to reach a hundred. Example customer owes $10.16 and pays $15. Thats 84cents (3 quarters 1 nickel 4 pennies) now you're at $11 plus $4 is $15. Its important to build your confidence the speed will come naturally. Trying to gain speed first you'll always be worried about messing up.

    I hate it when people count change backwards to me, they might as well throw the money in my face and walk away. I understand it but I can't do it kind of like counting cards in 21. And when they start counting it out and call a $1 an $100 bill it doesn't make anysense at all. Just count like normal people geez

      +Toad Phillips I actually looked up "how to count change," to find out why people kept doing this. I knew my change was going to come out to 13 dollars and 60-something cents, but the cashier told me 15 and and 10 (something like that). He was giving me back the right amount of change so I knew he wasn't stupid, but he was telling me something completely different. Then he had the nerve to count out my money again as if I was a child and looked at me as if I was stupid. I didn't realize this is what he was doing, but it really does just cause confusion and delay. I had already subtracted the change to 1.48 in my head. This just seems very complicated.

      I think it's easier to teach this in person. That's why you probably thought it was difficult. But this is the easiest way to do it. Just keep practicing in person with real change if you can.

    I’m lost isn’t 5-3 is 2. Then why is he getting 1 48 shouldn’t be 2.48

    • @ConchiqaBlvckDivmond
      @ConchiqaBlvckDivmond Před 6 lety +1

      $5.00 given to get $1.48
      mask man because he paid with 5.00 not 5.48 . Start from .48¢ - (add two pennies) to make .50¢ .
      Then (add two quarters) to make 2.00
      (Add 3.00) to make $5. So the amount he paid was 3.52 + 1.48 = 5.00 :)
