The moment maleficent started sobbing when she realized he took her wings she became my favorite villain because she was actually the hero and it's true that hero/villain are roles that depend on who's telling the story

I know stefan did the wrong but we never talk about the fact that he didn’t kill her yet the mother of aurora had to live without her child, maleficents curse did a whole lot of wrong. And I think the moral isn’t just whos telling the story, but maybe there are no hero’s or villains in life because people are just driven by emotions and consequences of those emotions

@@shanilapidot5009 you missed my point. I think a pair of wings being taken doesn’t equal to a child being taken from their parents. No one is a villain - just people driven by emotions and actions. It’s what disney meant by saying she was neither hero nor villain as well.

@@LS13. Arguably i think her wings were equal to a child. When you think about it, they're an individualised extension of herself, the same as a child is an individualised extension of their parents. I do agree that both sides were driven by motives that may or may not be completely justified. Maleficent certainly didn't have to curse Aurora to that extent, and Stefan didn't have to initiate the whole problem by letting his ambition drive his cruel actions

Maleficent had an agenda for keeping her alive for all those years. She wanted to make sure her curse came to fruition. Along the way she grew to love the child as if she were her own.
This movie was so impactful by way of retelling the Sleeping Beauty story by showing the villain's side of the story.
I have the original cartoon and I really liked it growing up, but she wasn't one of my favorite Disney Princess movies. This movie changed that.
Angelina said that the wing cutting scene was a metaphor for rape, because that is all about power over someone.

As a writer, I can tell you that it might explain your feelings better when you realize that Maleficent was always the hero (protagonist) and King Stefen was always the villain (the antagonist), it's just that Maleficent's "hero's journey" had her stepping into a "villainous" role for part of the story -- that was part of her journey. She was never truly evil, whereas Stefen started off innocent but flawed by overwhelming ambition. It was blind ambition that drove him to betray someone he said he loved and eventually it was ambition that drove him mad. He was never able to own his mistakes and make amends. You can say he was ambitious because he started off poor, but not all poor people feel the need to have power no matter the cost. That is the character's fatal flaw -- something every good villain has to have. He had no redeeming qualities, unlike Maleficent, who never truly lost her inner spirit of love. So, it is perfectly natural that you were "for" Maleficent, even when she was in the "villainous" part of her journey. :) Hope you watch the sequel; I think you will like it just as much.

Answer to your 1st argument: Let's say, if someone tells other people that you're something (- gay, bad at school - it doesn't matter) - and it's not true - it's rumour, right? Well, rumours spread really fast, and it's really hard to disprove them. So, queen Ingrith (*copying her line*) "spread the story of the evil witch and the princess she cursed. It didn't matter who woke sleeping beauty". People doesn't care where the truth lies, they just care about what a perfect story they can tell to others. That's why people from Ulstead feared her. People from Stefan's kingdom were "friends" with Moors. Ulstead could be hundreds of kilometers away from Stefan's kingdom.
Answer to your 2nd argument: Only Maleficent has this kind of power, because she is descendant of The Phoenix - something like great grandmother of Dark Faes. No other Dark Faes has this power, they can just fly, and use their wings in fight.

The thing about true love's kiss... Maleficent and the king didn't believe in it bc when they were younger he gave her a kiss and called it "true love", but after he betrayed her and made her suffer so much Maleficent realised he didn't love her and he had lied, what he gave her was not true love. This grief left her believing that true love doesn't exist. But true love is (very simply put) when two people love each other unconditionally. The speech Maleficent gave to sleeping Aurora showed how much she loved her, and Aurora loved her back bc Maleficent basically raised her up, she was like a mother to her. The princes's kiss did not work bc he didn't love her, he didn't even know her. He just liked her and her beauty, he didn't really have much time to get to know her deeper and actually care for her, and to Aurora he was still just a stranger, she only met him once and didn't even have time to form feelings for him.

Angelina Jolie wanted to bring justice to the role of Maleficent from the original cartoon Sleeping Beauty
Yes there is a sequel movie
    Mistress of Evil.
Now to answer some of your questions.
Yes this is Maleficent origin story and she is hero/villian.
She fell in love, was betrayed by her love, she became cold and empty. And wanted revenge.
The king, her love betrayed her for power. He wa innocent at a young age, but the aloure of power is very sudductive, and can lead many to betray loved ones over.
Maleficent's rage, wanted vengance and she put a curse on Aurora, to make him suffer.
    Its not comendable, it's relatable
    (That's where you got confused)
(So no, you don't deserve to be spanked, lol)
No one celebrates acts of evil, but we do celebrate when good triumphs over evil.
King went mad with fear, to the point where we was no longer the person Maleficent knew, and was willing to kill her.
His death was the result of self-desense and self-inflicted.
The love Maleficent began to feel for Aurora, was what brought back Maleficent from evil.

True love means many things, meaning a love that is unwavering, it doesn't need to be romantic in the slightest. Maleficent grew to love Aurora as her own watching her grow up all those years and no love is truer then that between parent and child.
I get you believe in true love, and I do to, to a limited point, true love is very hard to find and harder to Forge. True love is like playing Russian rollet with a revolver that takes a thousand bullets, and the gun hasn't been maintained so it sticks like crazy and only one bullet is loaded. The chances of winning is just as likely as winning the Lotto in some places. Not saying it doesn't happen just that it's so scarce these days that most have given up

That was Stefans and (and possibly the mothers, it isn’t really clear) choice. They could have had her in their lives, hell, it could have been King Stefan who has a character arc similar to Maleficent’s and earns redemption through his love of his daughter, but he makes the choice to send her away and focus on vengeance instead of making the most of the time he does have with her. @@kayanester2771 that’s a good point but the main one that still stands is the fact that she cursed his daughter, putting him in terror that something would happen to her, he never actually took vengeance during that time- he was paranoid for most of the time because of the fact then later trying to develop a way that would kill her in a sense when it came closer to the time trying to find solutions. Which he then used when maleficent went into the castle. 💯 maleficent isn’t the hero in any case, there aren’t really redemption arcs in life for what you’ve done, he wasn’t a hero either but he took her wings and she took his child.... both are not examples of hero’s but I don’t think there are hero’s and villains- only actions and then consequences

I don’t agree that the curse should cause him terror though. He was there when it was made, it’s akin to having a child who is sick and will only live to a certain age. The answer isn’t to abandon your child. I think Stephan makes more conscious/intentional bad choices than Maleficent does.

The funny thing is, that her living a normal life at the castle would have been her best shot on having the curse lifted. Even if they couldn't have known about the whole "love of a mother/parent" thing, just keep the spindulars outside of the castle.

Curses on this universe are a lot like toothpaste in our world. Once you squeeze the tube and toothpaste comes out, it's impossible to get back in the tube. So we must be careful how much and how hard we squeeze, and Maleficent illustrates the more important lesson beautifully. You must think before you speak, and choose your words carefully. Once uttered, they cannot be taken back, at least, without consequence.

Aurora isn't just sleeping. She's comatose. And ironically, she hits her head a couple times on the stone ground. She hit her head so hard, it basically *screams* concussion. Interestingly, if a person is recently concussed, like Aurora, the first rule is *don't let them fall asleep!* This will likely be the only thing they want to do, but if the person has a concussion, and they fall asleep before medical help can arrive, there's a strong possibility (one that grows stronger by the minute) of the person slipping into a coma and dying.

I’m on maleficent’s side. Stefan kissed her on her 16th birthday and told her it was “true love’s kiss”. Obviously he lied to her. So, naturally, as revenge she placed the curse on Aurora “on her 16th birthday she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel”. I think, personally, she changed her mind from “and die!” to “can be awoken by true love’s kiss” because even though she wanted to punish Stefan she, deep down she still had feelings for him and there was still some love in her heart. We do and say a lot of mean things when we’re angry.

At the start you thought that things looked familiar, and you were wondering if it was from The Hobbit. Could you, perhaps, have been thinking of a King Arthur story instead? In those tales there is the character Morgana (Morgan Le Fay) who is very, very, similar to the Maleficent character.
Just tossing that out there. I'm not sure what lore you follow or what movies /shows that you may (or may not) have seen before.
