*"The Great Southern Trendkill"* was a complete package.
It had brutality, melody, intensity and atmosphere.
Hell yeah it did
but never a good balance of all of them. Each individual moment on the record is eather too noisy, too dragged out or too slow. The balads have their moments though

I love how the record just kicks you in the face first song with out warning. Had it turned up and I wasn’t ready for it haha. So I will always remember the first time I put it on after I bought the cd back in the 90’s.
My favorite Pantera album and I'm not just saying that I've listened to them all alot growing up.
I love that solo. Pretty much the only reason I got hooked on that song nearly 3 decades ago.

That outro had me in tears because i remember when me and my uncle used to listen to Pantera on the radio in his truck…I miss those days and especially my uncle because he passed away years ago from alcohol poisoning

Crazy thing is there's a video of Dime playing that Floods outro when he was still a teenager. That was just some lead riff he wrote as a kid that was sitting around for 10-15 years before he used it in Floods and it made it onto The Great Southern Trendkill.
yeah he wrote it for his gf , so she could play it on tape when she had trouble sleeping during high school pree sure or atleast thats the story i remember

I dont know how to describe it but every time I hear that melodic outro it brings me to tears that someone who wrote something so beautiful was murdered. Rock In Peace Dimebag, you may be gone but your music will carry your legacy forever.
This is the only guitar solo that can bring me to tears even when I’m in the absolute happiest mood

My favorite solo of all time. A true masterpiece. The bass is really under rated, and it truly wouldn’t be the same without it
Totally, Rex really underpinned a lot of Pantera’s sound, and it’s exemplified by how Dime is able to drop rhythm during lead parts and it still sounds heavy and badass.
Way more bodied or powerful than the walk riff. That Whammy Groove is great. Interesting open chords. As always its spot on well done Brother.
I can face any adversity with this music in my head. Keep Dime's parts alive. Learn and play his music. This is a great piece from a slept on album.

i was asked what was “point of no return” for guitar. I said it was hearing Floods for the first time.
The twisted riff, harsh vocals and heavier guitar parts. Sick chords in the chorus. The impeccable guitar tone.
Then the first part of the solo. The bends, the squeals, so f ing perfect and beautiful. The entire solo you can hear his passion and heart. the emotion. You then realize that you are listening to the genius and technicality of a dam legend.
You think that's it as heavy guitars and "DIE!" fade out... but then you hear the most beautiful construction of melodies and sound ever known to man. that outro. it brought out feelings and emotions i've never felt before.
Hearing this during a difficult time in my life gave me so much hope. If I could create these emotions for others. Sharing this beautiful experience that music can do.

This song sounds like Pantera just took an old guitar that had been sleeping in a warehouse for 20 years, the strings are completely rusted, out of tone. But when played it makes beautiful and weird music... Pantera is genius. Thanks Mr.Tabs！
Very interesting tone on it for sure. We tried to replicate it with a chorus effect. Love the studio version tone. Dimebag really shines on it.
