    The thickness is not just a marketing thing. The 12.9" M2 iPad Pro was VERY heavy and would get uncomfortable to hold and use in little time. They made it thinner to reduce the weight and make it more manageable. It's easy to forget about the weight when you're using it as a laptop, but you do have to remember that it's a tablet first, and therefore it should be optimized to be exactly that, something you can hold in your hands and interact through touch.

      Not to mention the combined thickness and weight when Magic Keyboard is attached.
      (Apple could make Magic Keyboard lighter only because the iPad itself got lighter, as the keyboard has to be the counterweight when the iPad is attached so that the whole thing doesn't tip over easily.)

    It’s such a shame that Apple deliberately keeps the iPad Pro, a 1600 dollar tablet + keyboard, so crippled just because they want to have / sell it all. I love my iPad Pro M1, but just for the stuff the iPad is really good at, it has a lot more potential, but Tim isn’t giving it to us 😱

      It’s been 9 years since Apple introduced the Pro lineup of iPads and they really haven’t made significant efforts to make iPad OS function like Mac OS. At this point, I think it’s time to accept that Apple will never make the iPad Pro a direct replacement for a Mac.

    Interesting that you say the nanocoated display is washed out. As someone who has a new iPad Pro 13”, Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro on order (gotten the latter 2 but it’ll apparently be several weeks before they can deliver my 1TB version, I am curious - did you come to that conclusion (faded/washed out display) based on having seen a new iPad Pro with the nanocoating, or is it based on experience of others’ similar tech? I got the coating due to using my iPad in all types of environments and planning on using it for video and color grading (primarily BMD, but also Premier if possible, and FCP). Great, revealing review - thanks for the details!

    I live in Canada too and I mostly bought this. You know just to draw because I'm an artist. I really wanted the 1 TB version with the Nano texture but that would have been like $3,000 Canadian. And since I'm an artist, I usually want a bigger screen size so I just opted for the base model. If it was bigger I would have dropped The money money. But I just couldn't justify it just way too much money. But if they do get a bigger screen in the future I'll definitely trade this in for that.

    After watching your video and a couple others it has helped me clarify what to do now I’m going to hand in my work MacBook.
    I had contemplated buying the new iPad Pro 13 and keyboard. I already own an iPad 6 and haven’t needed the Apple Pen.
    But now I see I would come to dislike having to detach the new iPad from the keyboard to use it standalone and the size would be cumbersome for your average newspaper or
    Magazine reading.
    And the fact that I have to carry the keyboard around with it to have the protection for the screen just makes it even less sensible.
    So at this stage I may just buy a basic MacBook Air and keep my iPad 6 and save a bunch of money.

  • @GrundkursBouldern
    @GrundkursBouldern Pƙed 12 dny

    Hey, fellow CZcamsr here. The iPad Pro M2 has been my daily driver since early 2023. I still own a regular PC, but 99% of the time I work on the iPad. Apple had me, when Davinci Resolve was announced and I still am impressed by the iPads capabilities. Editing Videos on it really shows how powerful the hardware is. Despite only having 8GB of RAM it handles 4K log footage like a charm and only starts to slow down, when you go a bit heavier on the effects. Or use a second monitor
or try to multitask while having an edit open. In those cases the lack of RAM results in software crashes.
    So, from my point of view, 16 GB RAM on the base model would have been a good thing. Especially since Apple is charging more for the new iPad Pro and I actually intend to use it as a work horse not a glorified mediaplayer.
    But the thing that bugs me most is the way Apple handles basic functions like mouse support. I think, one of the reasons why Black Magic has not released a full version of Davinci Resolve is the weird way, mouse input is handled by iPad OS. All the features were implemented from the day they released Resolve, yet you can‘t access them fully, because they need to rework their interface to make them work properly.
    And it is not just DaVinci. Other professional software like the Affinity Photo is borderline unusable with mouse and keyboard, while most of the other multiplatform programs I use or heard of lack certain features to make everything more touch friendly. Things like this make me go back to my PC once in a while, because I need to do stuff, I simply can‘t on my most powerful computer. Because of software limitations Apple is unwilling to get rid of. Why not give it Desktop Mode that lets it behave like a traditional PC? We would have the best of both worlds.
    This really makes me wonder, if I should get another iPad. With the Snapdragon X Elite army on the horizon I feel like Apple is about to lose it‘s edge, because of their stubborness. When I first got the iPad, it was well ahead of the pack. But it hasn‘t evolved on its weeknesses. Now the competition is getting closer, probably being almost as good in performance and better in productive use cases, while also being cheaper. My next productivity machine could very well be from Microsoft although Windows never really worked that good on touchscreens.

    9:44 it has been tested that the nano texture is way better than any paper like or Matt screen protectors. idk why and how did they managed to do this, but its better with less washout effect under strong exposure of light rays.

  • @williammclean6594
    @williammclean6594 Pƙed 12 dny

    Also, a lot of artists do not like screen protectors sure it gives like a paper feeling. But if you're a professional artist you have to buy one every 2 months. And if you go for the more expensive ones like paper like you're spending like, $150 a year on screen protectors. If the Nano doesn't wear off over time or get worse or scratch up the screen, I'd say you should definitely get it.
    I also saw a video of someone putting a screen protector over top of it. It doesn't really degrade the colors that bad. It looks like the same basically. So you can use a matte screen protector over the Nano if you wanted. Plus there's magnetic ones that just come off in 2 seconds so it's not like permanent

    The extra power the iPad Pro has makes it a much better value for me because it’s FUTURE PROOF.
    The problem with this and every other CZcams review of the iPad Pro is that you guys all seem to think everyone has your use cases and is ok with it becoming obsolete within 2 years because the HW is spec’d for the software with no room to grow.
    Most of us aren’t looking at iPads for commercial video/photo production or commercial art or compiling code or producing CZcams videos. What I want from an iPad Pro is an excellent tablet that’s also a pretty good laptop, that will continue to get regular OS updates and be able to run any software available on the platform for at least 5 years.
    I’ve used my M1 11” iPad Pro as my tablet+laptop all in one device for 3 years now and I don’t plan on replacing it anytime soon. It does nearly everything I use a computer for, and I just Remote Desktop from my iPad into my PC if there’s something I need to do when I’m away from my desk that the iPad can’t do.

If you are a person that needs that texture you are going get a much better image quality with the nano texture than you are with a screen protector. The reality is that nano texture is much finer than the screen protector so you get less scattering. I have spent over $200 on screen protectors and nibs over a year as an artist so the price difference seems worth it if you were already getting a higher config. Addition from a pro artist: Screen protectors wear out REALLY fast if you drive a thing for drawing daily. I have not used iPads, specifically, but they can wear out in like a month, and will start looking banged up within a week. Simply drawing on glass does not have this issue, assuming the glass is good. I have a 27" Cintiq here at my desk from 2015 that still doesn't have a single scratch on it. Although, I will give you that protecting the screen bares more relevance on something that will go in and out of bags, etc, where it may accumulate hard particulates that could damage it over time.

      @valismind  Pƙed 12 dny

      I get what you mean, but the Nano texture coating is NOT meant to replace a screen protector like paper-like. People have been saying it feels better than the glass - but that's not the intention with it at all, it's really just about scattering light.

    • @Hostile_Design
      @Hostile_Design Pƙed 12 dny

      @@valismind Well, yes, obviously. But that doesn't mean it doesn't also provide a better drawing surface. I personally don't mind drawing on clear glass, but the frosted Cintiqs does feel better. So far I have heard all artist reviews that have tried it prefer it over screen protectors. I personally am not sure I'd give up protection for slightly better feel on such an expensive item, but it would be simpler.
      How fast a screen protector dies is of coarse not a fixed thing either. They will vary in how much damage they can take and Wacom pens will not be the same as the Mac pen. And then we have various nib materials on top of that, etc, etc. The random brand matte screen protector I have on my Wacom Mobile Studio Pro has survived remarkably well, as an example, even if for sure shittier to look at than my bare stationary Cintiq without one.

It's the exact same (even worse) than getting an OLED monitor with a matte finish, like an LG. / Which I've owned.

Will they ever be as powerful for all media applications probably not but no reason pads can’t do the basic to mid tier things (small % of users would need). But if anyone thinks they will equal the $10,000+ setups in more professional studios
..well

 but yeah I doubt Apple or anyone for that matter will ever make a tablet more powerful or exactly equal to their equivalent laptop in the same price range. One will always be more convenient and more mobile friendly. The other will be mobile but be able to handle more, then its desktops for the next step up. Why? Because people will always want more
.look at the gaming world
..as an example
.portable is powerful and well received, then it’s pads, laptops, then PS and Xbox, still technically portable, but the ultimate is dedicated PC. Does anyone believe the others will completely replace a dedicated PC for the true crowd that wants the best experience?
