    Intel Arc has support for hardware accelerated AV1 decoding AND encoding. That's where the difference is.

    AV1-Encoding and -Decoding with Intel ARC seems great so far. The great Problem Intel ARC GPUs are having are there very high Windows Idle Desktop Power Consumption of 50W. Which is way too high, 10W would be good,

      NOt so bad on Linux if you got kernel 6.0/mesa 22.2. I also find the driver less crashy on Linux. I think intel is conspiring with Valve to make SteamOS the dominant gaming platform.

    • @Dave5gun
      @Dave5gun Před 2 lety +5

      Anyone can decode AV1, if you don't have GPU acceleration then the CPU will do the work. You can try it if you disable hardware acceleration in your browser and watch a video. You will notice that your CPU needs much more power than with hardware acceleration.

    • @white-bunny

      Streaming still predominantly uses 1080p sources even with large content creators, and I would think AV1 4K60 would already be supported for the people who would use it. But the vast majority will still use 1080p for sure.
