I think there’s a lot of folks that have no idea how hard it is to clean really old and worn out homes. I use to mop my old kitchen floor every day and it still looked awful. It’s much harder to get things looking nice when they’re worn out and damaged. You did a great service for this man.
It's so true! I hated feeling like everything was still dirty after scrubbing. I just moved and I can't tell you how nice it is to clean and have things look clean at the end of it

Every house has its cleaning challenges. Mine has untreated hardwood floors and old stains in the tub and sinks. Power Paste has taken care of a lot of it, but I think repeated cleanings might do it for the sink and tub. Still don't know what to do about the floors.
This is so true! I only worked as room service in a hotel for one year. The rooms were of course far less dirty than the homes barbie normally cleans. But since then I appreciate every person working in the cleaning industry. This job exhausted me.
Most people in the cleaning business would reject a job that involves such extensive cleaning. My neighbor who suffered from a stroke needed extensive cleaning, and was rejected by cleaning services until she found someone to help her.

I also have bipolar disorder and mine came with an obsessive compulsive cleaning behavior. And watching this video, for the first time, i was actually grateful for being like I am. Having bipolar disorder is not easy at all, but at least I could feel like I'm in way better condition than a lot of people. Thank you for helping this person :)
Honestly the majority of the trouble in that bathroom is purely the landlord not fixing things properly. the black sticky stuff on the tiles looked like they overfilled with caulk when they attempted to replace tiles and caulk around the sink and fixtures. You did an amazing job and i'm sure it will help this person feel so much lighter!
I was moved by your compassion and empathy for the person who has lived in this dwelling. Not everyone lives a charmed life. He's still a human being and it is his life. The fact that mental health is an issue for the man who lives there is also something that has to be considered. I did home support for a lot of years. It's very common to find elderly people living in these conditions. You can clean it up, but many years of filth is hard to get through. Good job Barbie!

There are some houses that don't get spotless. Not only age but neglect or issues with plumbing and pipes can cause issues. Sometimes you have to upgrade and replace things. My house was built in 1970 but, has been well taken care of. We are just now having to upgrade and remodel. Bathrooms and kitchens always are the first to have issues in older home. We had to replace the roof once since 1998 since buying it and it was replaced in 1997-8.

The mountain around the toilet was a diy fix to keep the toilet from falling through these flooring. The toilet leaked for a long,longtime and destroyed the wood underneath so that the toilet beca e wobbly and unsafe.

I just sat here staring at the tub trying to understand why part of it is blue😂. 🤓I have theories! Lol! But it looks like the tub was blue originally, then was coated white. And the water has leaked there so long it ate through. Wow. The water bill! Anywho, this was above and beyond the call of duty, Barbie. The RobertShaw stove is indeed antique-they are still making various parts for things. Apparently they were really popular at one time. The sink, too! I hope he gets home okay and has someone regularly helping now.🙏 You made it homey and the best it can be for now. He will not be coming back to germs and dirt and that is most important! I can see a big difference. The folks showing their own super nice houses are not doing what you do-it’s apples and oranges.

I use to suck at cleaning and did it so slow and some days I literally just couldn’t clean. Sometimes due to depression. I have now been cleaning more and use it as something that I love it’s hard to change a mindset but I did it for myself and ended up feeling better. My problem was that I was rushing everything and would get anxiety if I didn’t do things fast enough and if I didn’t do it fast I’d get into a rut and not do it at all. I’ve learned that I can clean at any speed and do things one thing at a time there’s no rush and now I can enjoy cleaning. I hope everyone remembers to take it one step at a time and it doesn’t have to be quickly
Perfectionism can stall all attempts to do any task. The thinking is "why start if I'm not going to be able to finish everything perfectly. Only perfect is acceptable. Anything less is a failure. I will be a failure." So you avoid. You can call it irrational thinking but it's real. I now pick ONE small task with a clear beginning and end to tackle..... clean the toilet, wash the dishes, fold & put away laundry, take out trash, declutter the table, dust one shelf, clean out one drawer, vacuum, scrub the tub, etc. No schedules, no lists, just do it when I feel like it. I complete a task and bask in the glow of clean. Taking pressure off of myself motivates me to get so much more done IN MY OWN TIME which actually started becoming more regular. I wish everyone luck on their declutter/ cleaning journey.

Just saw that video. Very interesting to hear about. I think all these youtuber cleaners (Barbie, Midwest Magic, AuriKatariina etc) are very good at showing compassion and not judge people. They help instead of shaming and blaming.
I recently discovered a cleaner called Spray Nine-in the Automotive section of Walmart. I got a 30 year old black paint stain out of a porcelain laundry sink-it looks brand new. It cleans EVERYTHING!!
Barbie, awesome job! God bless you for the work you do helping those who really need it. I have found in my work as a housekeeper that a quality steam cleaner and Spray Nine a concentrated degreaser work wonders on grout, tiles, tubs, etc. Also, spray can oven cleaner does help with the all the gunk stuck on the tiles around a bathtub. I hope some of these ideas will help you in your endeavors to make other people’s homes look better.
Most of your people seem to have plumbing problems they can't afford to fix. It would be nice if there was a charitable plumber who would volunteer to help. ❤
All of the plumbing stuff is simple fixes. Try bar keepers friend powder on tubs like that. I have an old cast iron tub and sink and it’s the only thing that will get stains out of it. There both white and even bleach didn’t help. Bless you for helping people ❤

My late best friend didn't know she was dying. I always cleaned her home and she appreciated it. She was a single working Mother of 2 .
Awesome cleaning of this apartment. You are really a pro! I looked up the stove company Robertshaw and they still are in business. They were founded in 1899. That stove in that apartment looks like a model from the 1950/60’s! So does pretty much everything else. But you did an amazing job cleaning it!!

@@scattyfi That is so very true. Things were built to last years ago. I know for a fact. I had a washer/ dryer that other then some minor repairs lasted for over 25 years, with a lot of use! Once I did replace them, I was told I “may” get 10 years out of the new ones. *If I’m lucky! That’s how it is with everything now… appliances, cars,etc. That’s why many people try to restore but unfortunately that is very expensive.
@@christinakeenan6091 I got my nan's fridge freezer when she died. I remember her getting it when I was about 10, it was one of the new frost free ones that didn't need defrosting. It packed up when I was 40 so it lasted 30 years! Old TV's lasted for decades too. I have a miele washing machine & vacuum cleaner because they're designed to last for 20 years. A bit more expensive than others but works out cheaper in the long run. Everything else feels disposable. I was only saying to my friend the other day that I don't think we have TV repair men anymore, that job is obsolete!
You did an amazing job considering the circumstances. If the person is paying rent, the owner should be ashamed of himself. The space, appliances, and entire bathroom are so outdated, and it needs to be updated or condemned. The family needs to get him into a different home. The renter might also have been to embarrassed or frightened to call the landlord to fix things. If the landlord had seen the apartment the way it was before, he might've evicted the renter, and since this is NYC, the tenant had rent control, so he might not be able to find a new place.

The mountain around the toilet was a diy fix to keep the toilet from falling through these flooring. The toilet leaked for a long,longtime and destroyed the wood underneath so that the toilet beca e wobbly and unsafe.
No one can call you lazy, that's for sure! You work you're ass off! I love shop vacs, those are powerful and great to have on hand. You do a wonderful cleaning job, most people would look at that bathroom and RUN! 😂 By the way, I'm glad the family tipped you the $500 because you definitely deserved every dollar of it 😉

I use to suck at cleaning and did it so slow and some days I literally just couldn’t clean. Sometimes due to depression.
I have now been cleaning more and use it as something that I love it’s hard to change a mindset but I did it for myself and ended up feeling better. My problem was that I was rushing everything and would get anxiety if I didn’t do things fast enough and if I didn’t do it fast I’d get into a rut and not do it at all. I’ve learned that I can clean at any speed and do things one thing at a time there’s no rush and now I can enjoy cleaning. I hope everyone remembers to take it one step at a time and it doesn’t have to be quickly
Perfectionism can stall all attempts to do any task. The thinking is "why start if I'm not going to be able to finish everything perfectly. Only perfect is acceptable. Anything less is a failure. I will be a failure." So you avoid. You can call it irrational thinking but it's real. I now pick ONE small task with a clear beginning and end to tackle..... clean the toilet, wash the dishes, fold & put away laundry, take out trash, declutter the table, dust one shelf, clean out one drawer, vacuum, scrub the tub, etc. No schedules, no lists, just do it when I feel like it. I complete a task and bask in the glow of clean. Taking pressure off of myself motivates me to get so much more done IN MY OWN TIME which actually started becoming more regular. I wish everyone luck on their declutter/ cleaning journey.

Just saw that video. Very interesting to hear about. I think all these youtuber cleaners (Barbie, Midwest Magic, AuriKatariina etc) are very good at showing compassion and not judge people. They help instead of shaming and blaming.

I recently discovered a cleaner called Spray Nine-in the Automotive section of Walmart. I got a 30 year old black paint stain out of a porcelain laundry sink-it looks brand new. It cleans EVERYTHING!!
Barbie, awesome job! God bless you for the work you do helping those who really need it. I have found in my work as a housekeeper that a quality steam cleaner and Spray Nine a concentrated degreaser work wonders on grout, tiles, tubs, etc. Also, spray can oven cleaner does help with the all the gunk stuck on the tiles around a bathtub. I hope some of these ideas will help you in your endeavors to make other people’s homes look better.

Most of your people seem to have plumbing problems they can't afford to fix. It would be nice if there was a charitable plumber who would volunteer to help. ❤
All of the plumbing stuff is simple fixes. Try bar keepers friend powder on tubs like that. I have an old cast iron tub and sink and it’s the only thing that will get stains out of it. There both white and even bleach didn’t help. Bless you for helping people ❤

Air Scents Orange room spray will remove literally any adhesive from any surface. Just let it soak a few minutes and remove with a scraper :)

Awesome cleaning of this apartment. You are really a pro! I looked up the stove company Robertshaw and they still are in business. They were founded in 1899. That stove in that apartment looks like a model from the 1950/60’s! So does pretty much everything else. But you did an amazing job cleaning it!!

@@scattyfi That is so very true. Things were built to last years ago. I know for a fact. I had a washer/ dryer that other then some minor repairs lasted for over 25 years, with a lot of use! Once I did replace them, I was told I “may” get 10 years out of the new ones. *If I’m lucky! That’s how it is with everything now… appliances, cars,etc. That’s why many people try to restore but unfortunately that is very expensive.
@@christinakeenan6091 I got my nan's fridge freezer when she died. I remember her getting it when I was about 10, it was one of the new frost free ones that didn't need defrosting. It packed up when I was 40 so it lasted 30 years! Old TV's lasted for decades too. I have a miele washing machine & vacuum cleaner because they're designed to last for 20 years. A bit more expensive than others but works out cheaper in the long run. Everything else feels disposable. I was only saying to my friend the other day that I don't think we have TV repair men anymore, that job is obsolete!

The space, appliances, and entire bathroom are so outdated, and it needs to be updated or condemned. The family needs to get him into a different home. The renter might also have been to embarrassed or frightened to call the landlord to fix things. If the landlord had seen the apartment the way it was before, he might've evicted the renter, and since this is NYC, the tenant had rent control, so he might not be able to find a new place.
