MILLION DOLLAR HIGHWAY: Colorado's MOST FAMOUS mountain pass and MOST BEAUTIFUL road of the USA

- The Million Dollar Highway in Colorado/USA is said to be one of the most stunning drives on the planet. Join the journey from the mining town Ouray to Silverton on one of Colorado's most famous roads - and find out if the ride is worth the hype.
The Million Dollar Highway is part of the the San Juan Skyway and is the 40 kilometer long section of US Route 550 that connects the former mining towns Ouray and Silverton.
Here are the highlights not to miss when traveling on the Million Dollar Highway:
- Stay a night in Ouray. The former mining town is called the Switzerland of the USA - and really earned that nickname being surrounded by beautiful mountains
- Enjoy the views on Bear Creek Falls. Bear Creek Falls is just outside of town, 2-3 miles south of Ouray on the Million Dollar Highway and there is no chance to miss it, because it drops down steeply right underneath the bridge along Highway 550. A viewing stand provides a wonderful opportunity to stand above the falls and watch the water drop a couple hundred feet below.
- Take in the amazing landscape surrounding you - and don't be scared of the road! Parts of the Million Dollar Highway don't have rails, but the Million Dollar Highway is not dangerous or scary - its really alright and much more scenic than dangerous in my opinion.
- Stop at the entrance of Treasury Tunnel and learn more about the mining history of the area. The Treasury Tunnel entrance still reminds of the Idarado Mine, which produced until the 1980s. From here the miners entered nearly 100 miles or 160 kilometers of underground tunnels, that stretch nearly all the way to Telluride.
- The Million Dollar Highway climbs up and over Red Mountain Pass, with a summit of 11,075 feet
Or 3.358 Meters. Until June or July the peaks are still covered in snow.
Red Mountain gets its name and red color from oxidized minerals within its rocky surface.
- Stay in the town Silverton. Silverton, officially the Town of Silverton, is situated between Red Mountain and Molas Pass in a remote part of the western San Juan Mountains. Silverton's last operating mine closed in 1992, and the community now depends primarily on tourism. When visiting downtown you can still experience the the old mining atmosphere. Walking around downtown Silverton, you will encounter an abundance of historic buildings, unique shops, restaurants, and local attractions. Most of downtown is indeed designated as a historic district. Important landmarks to visit are the Grand Imperial Hotel, city hall, and the old county jail which now houses the San Juan County Historical Society.

If you guys see some of the GoPro footage glitching: It's not your computer, nor the connection. I by accident deleted all the GoPro footage of this and part of the next episode - luckily I managed to recover most of the files, but the recovery process made some of them glitch. I tried to cut out most of the really bad parts, so there can as well be some unexpected "jumps" if I only kept the audio. Sorry for this, but I guess it happens to the best at one point! ;)
Couldn't even really notice it.
✌😘
Oh i can't noticed 😊
Never mind 😃👍🏻
Whatever you have..it's always A Great 👍🏻
Always thumbs up 👍🏻
Good traveling 👌🏻😃🧡
I didn't notice it. Good job!

A Million $ video . All that rain washed the air and road. I love the fresh cool air when riding. 30 years since I visited Silverton. I enjoy seeing it thru your camera. The best trips go by to fast even if you ride slow.
Was it the Same 30 years ago? I guess many things might have changed meanwhile. But it’s for sure still a very nice town! It felt very empty though this time, it was absolute off season and nearly all shops and restaurants were closed…
Off season has its own advantages and some distant advantages. I wish I would have a sharper memory as it is so nice. On that road trip my Austrian girlfriend said something memorable on the way to Silverton. " I did not come here for this, there is snow and mountains in Austria. " the snow was a meter deep on the side of the road. She was really happy the whole trip so what she said was unexpected. I did all the driving, she went home and got a driver's license. I wish you liked wild camping more. T7 Love
@@Got2Go silverton looks much like it did 50 years ago
We were there in late May, it looked lovely.
Its like a history class of Colorado... if not for this video, I wouldn't have known... Danke
Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a lovely place it is Silverton. Every week you manage to make us hungry for more. Again 7 long days waiting for the sequel. It's like the song from the movie Grease: Tell me more, tell me more becomes here: show us more, show us more, aha...aha...
I think silverton is lovely too! It’s so funny, on my worldtrip I really wanted to stay there but it was main season and literally everything was booked so I stayed in ouray - and this time I wanted to stay in silverton but then it rained and I stayed in ouray again. 😂
Maybe next time?!
Have you ridden Hwy 34 from Estes Park to Grand Lake CO? A part of it is over 14,000 feet high and gives some spectacular views and if lucky maybe even some wildlife. Unfortunately, because of snow at high elevations it is closed much of the year but at the continental divide all the views look down as you are way above the tree line and into Alpine Tundra. Just be sure to pack a warm coat as the temps can drop about 40 degrees Fahrenheit at the top.
Such a beautiful ride! The drone shots are great to add to the views on the bike.
Another excellent video and as always, we look forward to joining you again next week.
Thank you so much! Great that you joined this ride on the million dollar highway too. See you next Thursday!
Io sono innamorato del Colorado. posto meraviglioso e molto scenico. Bellissimo il filmato per un posto da favola. Complimenti e grazie.
That has to be the best motorcycle video coverage of 550 that I’ve ever seen, especially when you also give us the drone views and the history “factoids” along the way.
Scenic road wow.
Thank you very much for taking us along with you. It brought back great memories of my riding there when I was younger. All the best to you.
¡Uau! No words. Thank you Lea.
I really appreciate your videos! Thank you.
Yes! The Million Dollar Highway is worth the hype, i think... like your whole America adventure! Thanks a lot and see you in my living room next Thursday 🤗🙋😁!
I think so too - but I as well think that all the other off-road routes in Colorado are MUCH better than the million dollar highway (because we have soooo many nice paved mountain passes in the alps too…)
Beautiful and inspiring..❤️🙏
Beautiful and stunning road.
Beautiful !
Hello Lea, that was a beautiful video thanks and have a great time
Thank you for joining the ride!
Wow "Million Dollar Highway"? Lucky , after rainy days, sun shone on you @ Ouray/Swizerland. Awesome Bear Creek Falls.
Wonderful aerial shots. At least you made breakfast. Nice historical mining town of Silverton. Liked #203 . Thanks for the touring ride.
Thank you for watching! The million dollar highway is for sure a nice ride .
Love this area...
Two thumbs up to the team that created all the BDRs in the USA
I think so too! I as well have to ride so many more of them - Colorado is the only one that I nearly did completely so far…
I very much enjoyed your beautiful presentation of the Million Dollar Highway. Informative, entertaining and absolutely stunning videography. Thumb up, shared and subbed.
Thank you!
Lea, another fantastic video and can I just point out how clear and crisp your videos are, far better finish quality than other channels that I also enjoy. Hope you're doing well, keep safe 👍
Thank you so much! Trying my best to improve my videos - sometimes it works out, sometimes not. Sometimes the light is just wrong and the lense dirty for days without me realizing it 😂
Always love your videos! Beautiful area and a great road for riding!
Thank you Kelly!
Fantastic. Beautiful landscapes. Excellent video work. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for treating us to this delightful adventure.
You are welcome! Thank you for joining the ride!
It is really fantastic to be in your channel I enjoyed the scenery of the road so much. Thanks
Your video skills made my memories richer of riding the highway last month on my K1600. Thank you!
Great coverage of the $Million Highway. I've driven that route by motorcycle as well and thoroughly enjoyed it. Colorado offers great riding. And yes, the BDRs are an adventure all their own, and on my next to do list. Thanks for sharing! 😎👍
Lea, great video again! This area of the US has been one of my favorite for the last 34 years. I love the scenery here. As always, you’ve done a fabulous job of capturing some of its majestic beauty, but as one who has been there knows, no video or picture will ever truly tell the whole story of its magnificence. Can’t wait to ride that area in the next few days as I continue to ride the TAT. Looking forward to your next video too!!
Enjoy your journey! I am very envious of all the nice gravel and dirt roads that you will encounter on the Tat!
beautiful road !!!!
Every episode is so stunning. The more I watch the more I feel I have to do this route. Luckily not too far from Canada. Thanks for whetting our appetite Lea. Such interesting little historic towns. Cheers
Fantastic Video one more time.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Can't wait for next Thursday 👍🙏
Thank you for always watching! Hope you will as well like the next episode!
Been on million dollar highway twice if pulling rv go East to West enjoy your videos.
Wow looks an amazing road lea and as always a stunningly produced episode....I see your subscribers are growing and growing which is fully justified 👍. Ride safe 🇬🇧
Great video thanks for sharing
Great video!! Awesome part of the country!
Wunderschöne Landschaften!!
Ja, wirklich toll, Colorado!
Thanks again for the beautiful scenic roads. I can see you enjoyed riding there.
For sure! And I especially enjoyed the good weather!!!
U are just awesome in giving minute knowledge of the place u travel superb 👌
Wonderful. Views worth a million dollars or much more.
Awesome episode Lea, well done, thanks for sharing!! 👍👍
Thank you!
very beautiful
Wow
Awesome video been there myself beautiful country for sure
What a beautiful highway! I hope to ride it someday in the near future!!!
Beautiful scenic videos Lea, although I sense a bit of loneliness because your travel partner could not share with you. I know it's no substitute but you can take a little comfort in knowing that all of your online " friends" are with you at every turn and enjoying every minute. ❤️ Stay safe and well. Cheers, Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦
While I was traveling I definitely didn’t feel lonely - because I have you guys with me and because I really like to travel alone. But it’s funny, now when I am editing the videos I miss my travel partner! 😂 so many videos that I have to do twice normally because he says something stupid or interrupts me - all alone it’s very smooth 😂😂😂
Nice place. I love riding and go to others places too. Enjoy and have fun.
Have a safe ride always.
Thank you for your beautiful views of my state and indeed my backyard!
I love watching your content. Thank you
That’s a beautiful place you live at. Colorado is the best!
A very well made video and I wonder why you have quite less subscribers and viewers. Hang in there, I support you. Hello from Zurich.
Thank you! I only started this channel about a year ago during corona (at least to post videos on a regular basis) - so I think for the time it has been growing quite nicely! And: better nice followers who really join the journey than a lot of terrible trolls! But of course happy about the support! 🙌🏻
Excellent looks amazing
Thank you!
A Nice One!!
keep up the good work, enjoy the journey!
Thank you so much and see you next Thursday!
WoW....just wow!! I learn something new with each new episode. Keep up the great work! Ride Safe!
Thank you so much!
I grew up and currently live in grand junction, Colorado, I think the reason the locals are so terrified of red mountain pass is the avalanche danger, not necessarily the road itself. I believe it used to be much much more dangerous, now understanding snow types and loads helps to predict terrible avalanches and they close the road. I know a lady in her 60,s who when she was a girl her dad and two sisters were swept to their deaths in a horrific slide. I definitely wouldn’t drive it in the winter for a million dollars !
ANYWAY lol we are really enjoying your videos !
Cool video, as always!
Best and very perfect Vlog more information and enjoying then any NetGeo Chanel videos 👍
I am just following your route to map my next trip! awesome material and thank you!
Thank you so much! Hope you find some nice inspiration for your own trip!
I love camping in that area
Love your videos,,taking notes on where to go.
I bet those twisty roads that surround by the beautiful mountains worth the ten million dollars, again great episode 💕Lea❤️.. Thank you
Yes, for sure worth millions! A beautiful place! 😍
Always enjoy your videos, the product is excellent. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
That truly is a million dollar view and great weather.. Didn't notice any glitching..
Yes, million dollar weather! You might notice slightly more
Glitching in the next episode because I didn’t have as much material there to cut it out - but it’s not too bad I think overall…
I am enjoying your videos. I live in Colorado and rode from Fort Collins to Durango to Telluride to Gunnison to Grand Lake to Fort Collins thru Rocky Mountain National Park last year in August before it looks like you filmed this video. It is very pretty country and fun riding. I like your history and perspective on the area. I suspect being on the Tenere 700 with knobby's, being on gravel and sand is easier than something larger/heavier without knobby's. I can understand your challenges with riding partners that like different things. I enjoy better pavement, higher speeds, passing slow moving traffic and even some traffic that isn't so slow. All of that to also admit, that I am not very practices on sand/gravel. I still have more areas to improve on someday, but I don't want to rush my learning..... 8). Nice job on the video and great comments. The mountain weather is extreme and even in late August can run from 25 degrees F to 85 degrees F in the same day. Makes for an adventure in clothing for sure! I have seen show in the higher mountains every month of the year in Colorado. Your normally safe in June, July and August, but that isn't a guarantee.
Hello my Friend. You have shown beautiful mountains and beautiful roads in this video. Your journey is very lovely.I watch every one of your videos with great interest🌷🌷🌷👍👍❤❤❤
Well done video. Inspiring!
I was just there in July and heading up to Moab and Telluride tomorrow (9.16.2022). I need to watch your videos so I can learn how to improve mine.
This was a good one don't know why but watching it I could smell the alpine smells when I visited Switzerland pine trees and fresh air , glad you got to ride it in sunshine 🌞 .
All the best 👍🏽
Thursday night entertainment !!! ...videos get better each week ...stay safe ....keep them coming !!!
Thank you so much for joining again! We will see if you still like the videos when it’s getting more flat soon 😅
@@Got2Go THE highlight of my week...stay safe
Beatiful ride!! I like Colordo!
Me too! One of the best states to ride a motorcycle!
👍 👍 👍 Wow! 😎
Beautiful ride. I did it in late May of 2013, snow everywhere and many passes still closed. I really didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. I'd love to go back again and see it.
Love it . Thank you for sharing 👍😎
Thank you for joining!
Awesome trip
Thank you!
Highway is worth a million dollar. Amazing landscape 👍
Yes, a million dollar ride!!!
We drove that highway in the fall and it was absolutely stunning! A highway I would drive again and again. Maybe one day on a motorcycle
Beautiful scenery madam
Thank you!
Great Channel, great content, and narrative
I was driving in this road in the winter and an avalanche came across the road and everyone had to turn around and another smaller avalanche came across the road and everyone had to drive on the very edge to get past and back to Ouray
Lea video is very nice. Thanks you. We wait a lot of video.
Thank you!!!
I'm from Indonesia. Videos with very beautiful scenery where I love this trip and of course always wait for videos from this channel. I'm always loyal every chance I get and be a friend when I take a break from work, thank you for inspiring me.
Thank you so much! Happy that you joining the Got2Go crew! Hopefully see you next week - and hello to Indonesia!
You are a great filmmaker! I love your stories! Be careful out there girl!
Thanks again for letting us follow your journey through the mountains of Colorado. When I passed through Ouray and Silverton, Red Mountain Pass was the highest elevation I had been to at the time ( my local mountains topping out at "only" 10,000 ft., 3000 m). I had to venture to the Himalayas to improve on that. Anxious to see your journey through New Mexico! As always your videos are beautifully presented (GoPro glitches or not! ;)
Thank you so much! It’s very interesting how high the Rocky Mountains are here! Very majestic!!
Great video - love the drone coverage!
Thank you!
your videos are very high quality !!!!!
New subscriber from west palm beach. Ur videos are great. The clips, the music all fits for ur awesome trip!
Welcome to the channel! I hope you enjoy the ride! New episode is out every Thursday!
Yep Lea what a fantastic biker's road superb..and the Drone footage is sublime and l must say the way you get the water back-up the waterfall 👏magical..outstanding vid as always 🥰🏍👍see you next Thursday..going to get some beers and snacks etc 😀to watch!!!
That’s only possible on video - getting the water back up instead of down. So I guess it has its advantages to follow the journey on screen and not in real life 😂. Always glad to have you around!
I learned to drive here ❤️
Nice ride. I loved Oury, nice place.
It is! But silverton is too! Two great places!
Enjoyed your trip. We rode bicycles over the million dollar highway back in 1973. The road has changed some. We were told it cost 1,000,000 to build it and it just done mostly with picks and axes by hand. Silverton's main street was just dirt and muddy. Going from Silverton to Ouray was nice because we hugged the mountain side. :o)
Great music
Thank you for your wonderful videos, comments and descriptions. This especially is a favourite since I had enjoyed riding my motorcycle on it a few times. But what I am more excited about is your continuing the ride to NM , and especially visiting the "El Satuario" in Chimayo, and mostly what you will feel in that place. Riding there had become a pilgrimage to me since I first stumbled upon that gem of a place in 1990. In 2008 I wrote a small article about it through my trips, it's Rev. Roca, and the attraction i had developed to that place (Published at the time on the Santuario's testimonial website). I would love to share this with you, if I could. In the meantime, please keep those beautiful videos and narrations coming, and most of all be safe and well. Thank you.
Oh no, that is too bad! I just looked it up and realized that this was not the church I visited! The one in my next video is Francisco de Asis in rancheros de Taos. I put this one on my map now, hopefully can see it at one point! Thanks for the tip!
I love your use of the drone!
Colorado is beautiful as like lea s voice
Hi Lea, a pleasure to ride with you one again, appreciate your invitation, stunning road to ride with awsome views to boot, your book is still waiting for me as the nights draw in and nearly time for lighting the log fire, but hold up, we are swooning around in beautiful warm weather so your book has a while to wait, we are driving North next week, Scotland and Galloway, Queens Seat near Pitlochry, just the two of us in ourCampervan, no Motorcycle or Cyles this time, maybe some reading time? Hopefully will once more take up your invitation to ride with you next Thursday, Stay safe and well, D x
That sounds awesome, I always wanted to travel to Scotland but never made it! And I think a campervan is a very good idea, you never know if it might not rain for days 😅
you are my favorite you tuber Very good quality and enjoy listening to your strong accent Keep up the good work Be safe
Thank you so much! Glad that you like the videos!
Nice video Lea, love riding roads like that...especially on a nice handling bike like the T7! Great scenery...Cheers, Steve
Yes it’s the best bike! Thanks for joining again, Steve!
It's awesome video! Terima kasih 🙏💗
Thank you so much!
@@Got2Go my pleasure 😊
Wonderful mountain views Lea but Silvertown.....looks like you entered a movie scene :)
