      +Jon Galmiche that's true for 99% of the people out there. Although, speaking to me, I did a large event at a big club, got hammered, but never went too far, got behind the wheel, got to a check point and was screwed. I have been drinking and driving for 6 years, but stopped after that one stop. If you drink and drive, trust me, you will be hammered with life time fees from the government that you have to pay which is really hard to pay, plus, if you cause an accident or killed someone while drinking and driving, you will serve a minimum 10 years in prison for manslaughter from where I'm at. other laws vary in other states.

    Was she a diabetic? She could've eaten some sugar and brought herself back from the edge of a coma. Perhaps she was on pain meds, or party drugs? Seems to me they can take you in for a blood draw if they have reasonable suspicion, which the video evidence and multiple witnesses should've provided, but maybe Florida law is different from my state, which is extra harsh on DUIs. I just can't believe she walked away from that sans ticket or jail!! Crazy!!

    Omar...I know what you mean when you said you lost a family member, because of a drunk driver. A few yrs ago, my cuz and her husband were taking their daughter to the hospital around 10 In the evening. At the same time there was a high speed chase, and the driver was high on meth and was drunk. That evening I heard a loud bang & then I heard sirens, and looked out and counted 4 cop cars going by. I decided to go and check & came across an accident. I saw a truck on top of a car & knew it belonged to my cousin(they were killed 1 km from their home). Well, it was a huge shock to our family...because my cousin, her husband and 2 daughter's were killed :'( The guy lived and I could hear him screaming that he was in pain & walked away with non life threatening injuries...That guy walked away with a slap on the wrist, because his family was wealthy, and only got 7 yrs in jail. And my cousin had 4 daughter's, but only 2 were with them. I've always called the cops on suspected drunk driver's, and will never stop, because I don't want anyone to go through what our family went through. Thank you for posting this video 👍👍👍💯💯💯👌👌

    • @teslavate
      @teslavate Před 8 lety +28

      +The Omar Gosh --- Something is wrong there that she was not arrested or cited either. I am a retired LEO and I could see at least 5 violations I would have written. Unsafe lane deviation, failure to maintain control, Illegal stop on a controlled access highway, illegal use of turn signals and OWI (Operate While Intoxicated). I would have cited her for OWI and taken her for a evidentiary blood test if I could not detect alcoholic beverages and had a complete drug span done on her blood. Even if she refused it she would lose her DL for a year and keep her off the roads. AND even if she didn't test for substance abuse I would then have reported her to DOT (Department of Transportation) in a driver's behavioral report so that she would be given a psych. evaluation. In our state, you you have to prove you are fit to drive as driving is a privilege, not a right here. Maybe in Florida they don't have that but it would surprise me.

    • @teslavate
      @teslavate Před 8 lety +5

      +GamleErik100 --- In the USA you have a right to not incriminate yourself, but by refusing to take a test she will automatically lose her license up to a year depending on what state. I n my state the first offense is an ordinance violation and she can refuse but lose her license. However the 2nd offense is a criminal misdemeanor and even if she refuses the test the officer may take a blood sample. Then she would lose her license for a year for refusing and if she tests over the legal limit she again automatically is charged with operating with an illegal BAC. On a 3rd charge she would be also charged as a habitual traffic offender and lose her license for 5 years right off. By the second offense the fines, forfeitures and costs will have gone over $1000 and by the 3rd offense its about $5000 and that does not include the life time high risk insurance label. I agree that OWI punishment should be stiffer but we live in one of the freest countries in the world and this is the cost of having those freedoms, just like having chases is or armed shoot outs with robbers. But I think we should go with countries that revoke your license for LIFE on the first offense. Drunk drivers kill people, innocent people.
      ---- I still recall my first call as a newly minted Sheriff's Investigator, a pair of drunks were racing on a state highway, way out in the boondocks. They were going about 85mph, out in farm country with very little traffic being the norm and then as they crested a hill into a 1.5 mile long gradual dip and the driver behind pulled out and accelerated to 105mph to pass. He was VERY drunk and never even saw the two 14 year old boys walking legally, against traffic on the opposite side of the highway the drunks were traveling on. The drunks were going NB (north bound) and the boys were walking NB across the highway against SB traffic as per law. The passing drunk hit the inside of the 2 walking boys at +100mph.
      ---- The 2nd boy, walking side by side and on the outside said one moment he was chatting with his best friend, walking home for a sleep over and the next moment a car roared by and his friend was gone, the car never even slowed down. When I arrived there about 15 minutes later I found only the 1st boy's boot standing up right in the middle of the SB lane, with his leg and foot still in the boot, having been amputated just below the knee. His other was located about 40 feet north, in the SB ditch. As I stated the driver never stopped and the only way we got him is that when you hit something at +100mph, anything, it's going to do serious damage. We found him passed out in his disabled car approx. 4 - 5 miles North on the shoulder. The boys jeans w/ knees and partial legs still in them were imbedded into the metal of the hood. The boy's torso was ejected from his jeans and hit the windshield , driving it inward so as to hit the driver about the arms and shoulders, but no serious injury. Both the hood and the roof of the car were collapsed. His body was eventually discovered about 60 feet off the highway and out in a corn field, he had been killed instantaneously on impact.
      ---- This was back in the late 70's and under the old law so that he could only be charged with simple OWI, even though it was his 5th offense OWI and 6th offense OAR (Operating while revoked). Under the old law if you were charged with OWI of any number of offenses, BUT, then went for 3 years without a ticket then your driving record would be wiped clean! So, even though technically he should have been charged with negligent homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, he was only charged with simple OWI and simple operating without a valid license. Today if this happened he would happened he would have been charged with felony OWI/ Homicide By Intoxicated Use as well as being a habitual traffic offender. He would never drive legally again and he would be paying fines, forfeitures and costs well over $10,000, not to mention civil court settlements.
      ---- I go through all this to point out that the laws do change here, but they were designed to do so slowly so that we don't make knee jerk reactions that may be later regretted. However, OWI is a supremely dangerous crime and we should become more like other countries and permanently remove their license on the first conviction. I consider that the middle ground since there are some countries that have the DEATH PENALTY for first offense.
      ---- During my career of 22 years I arrested over 500 drunk drivers and handled hundreds of accidents caused by them and anything that helps remove them from the roads is worth at least checking into and even guys with cameras. I just want to have them do it so they don't regret it later, being sued OR WORSE.

    I think everyone is jumping to conclusions. This could've been drowsy driving if not drunk driving, and cops can't really prove drowsy driving with a sobriety test. I once stupidly drove home from school after being up for a full 48+ hours thanks to finals week. All I remember is swaying side to side like the girl in this video. ive also driven drunk once, but driving sleep deprived felt waaaaay worse.

      Nope, because she was able to turn on her blinkers several times. Someone who's falling asleep behind the steering wheel doesn't do that. She was obviously high on SOMETHING, or texting the heck out of her cellphone and giving zero shits about her surroundings, which is still a main cause of deadly accidents.

      What tests? Looking into a flash light? Answering a few standard and easy questions? I don't call them accurate tests to be honest, not even slightly. The only real test is an on field mechanical/technological breath analyzer and an on field drugs test. Which is used in most Western Europe and 100% accurate. Takes 2 minutes to take the test, you don't even have to get out of your car for it. There is no way in hell that she would have gotten away with that crap here, no way at all. Because the moment she would refuse a mechanical test she would be in handcuffs and taken to the station where a doctor awaits her to take a blood test, whether she wants it or not. If she would have come out clean than further investigation starts on why she was swerving like a madman for all those miles, turning on her blinkers where not needed. Heck, cops would even check if she was texting at that moment or not (trust me, they will do so here, and you better comply).

    • @kristilicea1472
      @kristilicea1472 Před 7 lety

      TheOpelkoenjas there's no breathalyzer that will detect drugs they do that with a blood test plus if there was it wouldn't detect half of the shit that people take these days to get high. But if they pass all of the field sobriety test they can't force them to have their blood drawn and under the law they can't arrest them. They just won't let them drive they make someone come get them and the vehicle

    This happened to me when I was in San Diego going through a two lane winding road at night. Every time a car came from the opposite direction, they would head towards the oncoming car. He was totally smashed. Finally a car got in front of him (he was an off duty cop) and slowly slowed him down until he stopped. When he stopped we all ran to pull him out of the car and he had two open beers and an open bottle of whiskey on his lap. I asked the cop to make a citizen's arrest and he went behind bars for the night. He was a huge danger to himself and others. Thank goodness nobody was hurt or killed. I guess I learned early in life about drinking and driving for I got out of a car on the way home from the Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was 17 years. I didn't like how the driver was driving so I asked to be let out at the train station. I called my dad to come get me, it was like 3 AM too Well on the way home, we came upon the car that I was in and that car I was in, along with four of my good friends, went over the median and struck another car and a total of seven people were killed that night. I was the only one alive because I got out. A lesson that I never forgot and never will. Always trust your gut instinct!

    She may not necessarily have been drunk or intoxicated. Maybe it was a medical problem, or she was tired or even fiddling with a sat nav or something. She could just be a really lousy driver, there are plenty enough of them out there. The important thing is she was taken off the road before she actually hit anyone by your actions and those of the other witnesses, far too many people will just go by or turn off not wanting to get involved, the fact that you did may well have saved her life and those of other travellers and is a good measure of who you are as a person. The world would be an infinitely better place if there were more people around with your character...

It takes a lot of effort for white people (and even some people of color) to see through the illusion that there is equality and mass institutionalized racism in the United States. I got pulled over for 'weaving' and then I passed a field sobriety test with two deputies. They let me go, and five miles later I smashed into two cop cars blocking the road. God has a sense of humor.

  • @hotsoup1001
    @hotsoup1001 Před 5 lety

    I just learned something from a cop a few weeks ago, if you are a witness to something and think they police need your information, do not pull up BEHIND the police car on the stop. Pull off the road ahead of the stop and wait in your vehicle until the police come to you. This is for two main reasons: 1) The cops don't know you and they don't want anyone where they can't see them. 2) The police car has highly visible lights to alert traffic to slow down and move over, and your car that doesn't have emergency lights can block the visibility of the police lights to other drivers.

    You're a good man. This is what I like to see on the streets, is people who care. I'm the same way. About 2 years ago, I came across a driver who was speeding down a city street. I called the police while I followed the vehicle, but I couldn't keep up because I had reached a speed of about 80mph, and they were still getting away, so I backed away and just gave the police the whereabouts of the speeding vehicle. Keep in mind this was a city street with a speed limit of 45, and they were going at least 90, swerving in and out of lanes, and not using a signal. If I see something like that, I will go out of my way to make sure they are taken off the road. I do the same with people who drive at night with no lights. I'm always making sure the roads are safe. And don't even get me started on people who text and drive. Haha.
