Why? Because Sowell gives facts and people have the tendency to buy into emotional arguments.

I agree that Sowell's work is great but your co-relation of his work to a family is far from an excellent correlation to the situation.

If we are authentic with that kind of comparison, then a better correlation to a dynasty is from Chinese Dynastys, African oligarchs, Arab nations
(You see what I'm saying?)
and Arguably, this nation isn't the best role model for "Community" as you are pointing out.
And if your criteria are the quality of a national community, Spanish and South East Asia (the Philippines included) are far best communal role models already, especially if it's about family.
But then again... good community doesn't mean a good National System (Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia as example) this includes the Black American community (then again, not really a good example of a good community)

"Back in the day" TV shows exemplified goodness and wholesomeness, Miracles thru prayer, the dire consequences of errors. Now it's as garbage as US shows.
It's a very poor country marked with hardship that few Americans comprehend much less live through. But the one thing Filipinos had was a strong family base and that's been eroded. The family values even among the poorest of the poor, devoutly Christian, mostly Catholic, is giving way to the Western "me, myself and I".
Respect for elders have waned, along with modesty. The emphasis on humility, obedience, diligence and sacrifice have waned.
American materialism has taken hold of the imagination with its false promises and expected results.

The VP with highest vote in Philippines history. The only mayor who was infamous for punching a government official over demolition job on illegal settlers but earned the trust and respect of the poor. She has a very high approval rate and was able to lead in paying her city's debts and at the same time managed to build many infrastructures and implement effective policies for Davao.
