I'm a musician that can play many instruments but I can't whistle for Shinola. I have a border Collie mix to whom I try to whistle and he ignores me. I played this video with the same $10 whistle and I instantly got it. It helps having a background in a woodwind or brass where your tongue is in play. Or if you're good enough to breathe through your ears for the ladies. What I learned instantly in 2 mins is invaluable. Thanks!

I was just whistling with my teeth and thinking "there must be a way to insert something into the mouth to enhance the whistle sound part, I can do the pitch changing myself" and here it is. Maybe not ideal for music, but I bet one could be made that is. It never occurred to me before, but the sounds this type of whistle makes are extremely close to a dog shrieking or whining, it's no wonder they pay it close attention.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've ordered the whistle and hope to get a tune out of it. I can play the orchestral flute which takes weeks to even get a note out of, so hopefully I can use the Acme for both dog whistle and instrument. :)

Seriously, the “T, T, T” formation helped and whilst writing this I now have a strangled Warbler. 👍🏼 Thank you
Got my ACME 575 yesterday. Achieved whistle sounds fairly quick, but inconsistent. Saying "T" or tea didn't help. And also placing the tip of the tongue on the back edge, as others suggest, didn't help. I found placing the tongue about 1/4" back from its tip on the back edge of the whistle and curling the tip under the whistle gave me more consistent sound. Today I tried flipping the whistle over, from what is shown in the video (lanyard tab on the upper lip), fit my mouth better and allowed me to whistle musical scales. All the sudden it all came together for me. Given all mouths, lips, teeth and tongues are different, I suggest trying all different combinations. As a child I played trumpet and I find this has similar tongue movements. I'm still a work in progress, but much closer to working with my border collie after just 2 days. Best of luck!

Michael listen.Put the straight side against your tongue, the round side between the lips.The hole is IN the mouth. Don't use teeth!! Say prudently articulated the letters S or T. Training Training. Good luck!

Can you do soft whistle tones as well? I am practicing for some weeks, but most of my whistles turn out too loud for shorter distances or smaller areas surrounded by trees or buildings (the echo is horrible and disturbs the dog) :/
Too much abdominal respiration is the problem.Try to give lower air-pression in a softer modus.May be your dog has highly sharp ears in combination with a nervous character.In that case whistle with your mouth (without instrument) or try a pipe-form dog-whistle in which you can turn down the sharpness. Good luck!
