The smell of this ragú is one of my first childhood memories, sitting in the kitchen while my mother was preparing it. It's a beautiful story: my mother got very good grades at high school, and rewarded her self with a trip to Italy. A charter trip to Rimini, I believe, that's what she could afford. Italian food has stayed with her ever since.
Did she make egg fresh tagliatelle? Did we even get proper parmigiana in Norway in 1971? No and no. She still made a very good ragú, and every time I make ragú bolognese, I think of those moments with my mother in the kitchen.
